I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

Wheelies - when I said I have a weakness for emotionally unavailable, svelte public school types, I was really referring to the character he plays, not to TH himself (who is a lovely chap as far as I can tell ). It's generally the characters I get crushes on, not the actors.

AdriftOnMemoryBliss · 28/02/2016 21:25

ready ladies!

TH yummy! That is all.

mercifulTehlu · 28/02/2016 22:15

Didn't get through that much plot this week but still enjoyable. Ruthless tough guy TH on motorbike ohhh yes please Grin.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 28/02/2016 22:16

TH is yummy but I don't know how much longer I can stand watching this bloody drivel.

LovePGtipsMonkey · 28/02/2016 22:17

ooh getting much more intriguing now!

I find it quite annoying that the casually picked up GF is featuring so much - nannying his child etc - I'd think a man like that would a)not trust a random model so that she is around his child as much (and she may be a spy), b)doesn't get attached to one woman when he's obsessed with money and power. Not sure whether she will turn out to be somethin glike a spy from some other side. Otherwise too much screen time.

And sorry to be a broken record, but I lurve Hugh!

Davros · 28/02/2016 22:23

You Cumberlord lovers should see Zoolander 2!
I found tonight's episode a bit violent and struggled a little with the switching between places and dates. The Swiss hotel was probably very traditional which explains the decor

AdriftOnMemoryBliss · 29/02/2016 00:08

i think this evening was a bit of scene setting, hoping next weeks picks back up a bit again.

Probably one of the issues with adaptations, they dont have the time to explain it like the books.

Enjoyed tonight's episode it's getting going a bit more now plot wise. Only 4 weeks left though for you th lovers, he's OK but I still prefer Benedict/Sherlock but then I am more sapiophile than class attracted.

Jed the gf is an interesting character, has a child of her own left back home? Drug addict? I don't think she's a casual gf as she goes everywhere with the worst man in the world. I actually think Hugh Laurie will prove excellent casting from next week onwards, we've not actually seen much of him in this yet.

CaveMum · 29/02/2016 08:37

Loved last nights episode, agree that it was mostly scene setting. The girlfriend is definitely intriguing and she and the son will probably prove to be Roper's week point.

HL has stolen every scene for me so far: the undercurrent of menace and you just know you don't want to be in range when he explodes.

Travelledtheworld · 29/02/2016 11:21

Very impressed by the sinister character portrayed by Tom Holland.

Travelledtheworld · 29/02/2016 11:23

Also struck me how difficult it is for upper class English public school types to lose their past history. Surely everyone knows everyone else ? Public school, university, gentlemans clubs, hobbies etc. Very difficult to go underground, re-emerge as someone else. Even if you don't use Docial media at all a quick Google search will reveal your past.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 29/02/2016 11:33

I'm enjoying it so far, but the scene with the little boy being held hostage upset me a lot. Blush I hate seeing kids or elderly people being scared in TV/film. I know it's not real but still!

PersisFord · 29/02/2016 12:53

Ooooh let me join in!!! I love it, a bit meh about TH but generally think it is v exciting and love Angela burr! And the guy from men behaving badly was in it last night!!

the nice blond girlfriend isn't the mother of the little boy though, is she?

Travelledtheworld · 29/02/2016 13:46

No PersisFord.
In the previous episode Roper told Pine that he had picked up the blonde girlfriend in New York and said "isn't she lovely?"

CaveMum · 29/02/2016 15:36

I often wonder what those US based viewers who first discovered Hugh Laurie in House would think of his turn as the Prince Regent Grin

mercifulTehlu · 29/02/2016 15:43

Grin CaveMum.
Well, my TH fixation is coming along nicely. Might have to revisit his Loki performances. And liking the rumours of his being tipped as the next Bond!

shakeatailfeather · 29/02/2016 16:12

Grin cavemum would love to be a fly on the wall when they saw it!!

I enjoyed last night's episode. It's such a good cast too. Olivia Colman is excellent as are Hugh and both Tom's.

I'm definitely nursing a nice little crush on TH (not new!) alongside my BC/Sherlock one. I think TH would just gently make me melt with his general loveliness and giggle with his impersonations. adrift I love that picture/story (and your name too! great song)

PersisFord · 29/02/2016 17:01

Thanks travelled. I am sure she and TH will get it on soon. My trouble with him is that I do t find him very threatening or intimidating, even when he is beating people up, so I'm not sure he would be a great bond from that POV. I always think bond should be a bit dark, and I don't get that from TH.

But he is v good in this. And I am looking forward to HL being really bad, I'm a big Jeeves and Wooster fan so it's going to be a shock to the system!!!

mercifulTehlu · 29/02/2016 17:05

He was definitely dark as Loki! I think he'll get darker as Pine as well - he was warned by Angela that he'll get so far in that he'll be worried he'll never get out. I think he's going to have to be a pretty convincingly bad boy .

OnlyLovers · 01/03/2016 10:40

she and the son will probably prove to be Roper's week point.

Totally agree with this. And yes, I think her child back home is somehow 'shameful' –her mum said she was a dirty whore. A child conceived through prostitution? Rape? A drug addiction?

Tom Hollander is totally skin-crawling. A magnificent performance. Am probably enjoying him more than any of the others at the moment.

BaconAndAvocado · 01/03/2016 11:01

I'm also loving this series.

All the cast are superb, Tom Hollander is very very excellent (bring back Rev!).

It has a really glossy feel to it, top class production value as ever from the Beeb.

That said, I can't bring myself fancy TH (Pine )..... He's too vanilla for me.

PersisFord · 01/03/2016 11:19

Yy bacon. I didn't even really fancy him as Loki - petulant rather than truly evil.

Not that I have a bad boy fetish, oh no!!! Grin

HalleLouja · 01/03/2016 14:02

I thought Jed's mum called her a whore as she has left her kid and is getting cash off HL to pay her bills. Sleeping with him for $$$$.

It definitely has a film like feel to it.

I hadn't discovered TH aka Pine before not sure where I have been well under a pile of nappies for the last 8 years. As for Olivia Colman I might have a girl crush. She is fab.

OnlyLovers · 01/03/2016 14:21

Oh yes, maybe, Halle. I still don't know why she's impoverished though? She must have a history to explain that, to need to go and sleep with a rich man in the first place.
