I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

It was very scenic, particularly the Swiss bits. I'm totally meh about Tom Hiddleston, but the snowy mountains were lovely.

I was just telling DH that this was coming soon Confused I'll have s look on catch up and watch through the week in prep for next Sunday.

Loved I! Hope Olivia is in it more in subsequent episodes, she is amazing (although Tom Hiddleston was excellent in it tonight - he has a lovely voice.)

helzapoppin2 · 21/02/2016 22:26

I kept going "nooooo" because TH's character kept doing spectacularly stupid things!

Sorry ladies, Tom's mine....all MINE!!! Thought it was great. Although I kept thinking of Majestic's 'Yes, I would ride him like a Blackpool donkey' and couldn't quite take it seriously. DH was wondering why I kept smirking...

Hugh Laurie is shaping up to be very nasty indeed. And isn't Tom Hollander teeny? Apparently Le Carre makes an appearance at some point. Was also keen to spot all the strategically placed coats / desks to cover Olivia Colman's bump.

Travelledtheworld · 21/02/2016 23:34

Went to Zermatt for my holiday two years ago so really excited to play location spotting.

TH is lovely even though he is a bit thin on top.....

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/02/2016 23:59

Tom Hiddleston is adorable in every possible way it is possible to be adorable.

LovePGtipsMonkey · 22/02/2016 00:48

you can all have TH - imo he is a v.decent actor, and has one of those extremely well-defined faces.
But I'm completely meh about him as a man, whereas I LOVE Hugh Laurie, so pleased he's featuring on TV at last! and so far he's all mine on here Grin.
The only problem is, as much as he can portray an evil character most of the time, at some point there is the usual kindness in his eyes that he can't possibly surpress constantly, which slightly compromises the character - but never mind, we'll gloss over those moments Wink.

mercifulTehlu · 22/02/2016 08:14

Really enjoyed it! Looking forward to seeing more of TH the next episode Grin.

wideboy26 · 22/02/2016 08:48

And I understood the plot! So far so good.

squoosh · 22/02/2016 11:09

Oh I loved this and am officially gripped!

Hadn't really noticed any publicity leading up to it but so glad I watched. I don't fancy Hiddleston but find him a really engaging actor.

The only bum note for me was Russell Tovey as the embassy bod. He looked like a schoolboy.

DamnCommandments · 22/02/2016 11:11

Any one know if there's a repeat? I've got BBC but no iPlayer (overseas) and no sodding search function on my DVR!

RattusRattus · 22/02/2016 14:39

Was Russell Tovey supposed to be the actual British Diplomat? Or was he just a member of staff at the embassy? Seemed odd casting as he looked very young to have the part of a diplomat. And his haircut made him look like he was still in the army.

wartynose · 22/02/2016 16:56

Loved it, but the Diplomat was poorly cast IMO. He is far too young.
I'd really love to stay in a hotel like that and arrive in a chopper

Olivia Coleman is fab.

MarieJeanne · 22/02/2016 17:31

I enjoyed it. The only thing that niggled me was the empty champagne bottles, surely they would have gone in the bottle bank?

MadameDePompom · 22/02/2016 17:33

I would have cut the old SIM cards up before chucking them. I do that and I'm not even an illegal arms dealer.

Snoopadoop · 22/02/2016 17:37

Grin Me too!!! I actually shred mine and I have nothing to hide.

Loved the programme though and Tom Hiddlestone - sigh - is just lovely!

ummlilia · 22/02/2016 17:47

the mistress of the playboy in episode 1 is also appearing in SPIN, More 4 on Friday evenings.

MadameDePompom · 22/02/2016 17:51

Hiddlestone doesn't get my pulse racing but he's a good actor and quite charismatic.

Ireallydontseewhy · 22/02/2016 20:48

Yes, sophie's character in Spin is quite different!

What was in 'the envelope' for Roper in the hotel? I couldn't work it out, even on the second viewing....

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 22/02/2016 21:13

I think it was new SIM cards and phones (burners, I do believe they called them in The Wire).

Ireallydontseewhy · 22/02/2016 21:17

Ah yes, sim cards makes sense, they were the right shape. Not sure phones would really have fitted in that envelope but i think you must be right, as they'd thrown the other phones away! Jonathan pine is quick thinking i must say, making sure the bins got emptied.

I was worried about leaving the blonde woman alone in the swimming pool when she'd been drinking - very inadvisable.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 22/02/2016 21:31

I hadn't even thought of the health and safety aspect, I just thought, who goes swimming after they've had a lovely bath and some champagne? I'd have been fast asleep.
