I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

Perhaps Roper is playing games with the Establishment? He might knowingly let Tree into his inner circle to let MI6/CIA think they can infiltrate his operation only to give them the complete run around.

I guess even the WMITW needs some entertainment Wink

MitzyLeFrouf · 22/03/2016 16:20

There has to be a dramatic moment where Pine realises that Roper has his number. Otherwise I'll be cross.

OnlyLovers · 22/03/2016 16:24

Yes, I agree, CaveMum.

Davros · 22/03/2016 17:03

You can buy this and other stuff on Apple TV. ATV is not too expensive and there are SO many TV series and films, money well spent.
I think the Mi6 arsehole should have better teeth than he does

OnlyLovers · 22/03/2016 17:26

Thank you! I'll check it out. SO much to watch at the moment though. I'm still working my way through Spin, ferchristssake. Grin

MissBattleaxe · 22/03/2016 17:30

I thought that the weapons never actually being at the Haven, and the trucks being decoys for the purchaser, was Roper's usual way of operating. In which case, Corky would have known that and only Tree would have believed the weapons to be on the trucks and sent in the US marines. So I'm now convinced that Roper must know for sure that Tree is the rotten apple (apart from the obvious fact that he is the new guy

George The Third- I agree with your theory.. Roper must know it's Tree now.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 22/03/2016 21:34

I'm watching again with OH

that WMITW sincere video he does right at the beginning- with the refugees- is so Tony Blair

the clothes, the gestures- all of it

genius

LaContessaDiPlump · 22/03/2016 22:23

Are we sure Corky is dead though? We've only got Roper's word for it, and no-one saw the body buried..... my money's on him playing possum and Roper playing along with it in order to catch Tree out.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 23/03/2016 07:14

I suppose they could be doing that to flush out whoever has it in for them in the government. But they already know it's Burr, so they could just get rid of Tree, couldn't they? No need for anything subtle.

LovePGtipsMonkey · 23/03/2016 15:06

Re Egypt - when Roper questioned Pine about his life/work, and asked where was he employed before Switzerland, Pine mentioned Egypt but not Cairo, came up with another town name.

They must have dug around to check that, but if he did just believe him, he wouldn't know of Cairo (unlikely).

MissBattleaxe · 23/03/2016 17:52

I would say Corky is definitely dead. Tree had to kill him or he'd blab. It was him or Tree.

OnlyLovers · 23/03/2016 17:58

I agree, Corky's dead.

I don't remember Pine mentioning Egypt at all. Confused

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 23/03/2016 18:19

he said Tangiers I think and didn't mention Egypt at all

all the plot holes in this are to do with tech I think

it would be SUPER easy to check a two year hole in someone's bio I bet- ie even if there was no record of tree being in Cairo, you'd be able to find out he hadn't been where he said he'd been. Iykwim

LovePGtipsMonkey · 23/03/2016 18:20

I remember re Egypt because I've noticed he had changed the town name. This was in ep.2, I think - after rescuing the child.

LovePGtipsMonkey · 23/03/2016 18:22

ah yes you are right Muddha - it was Tangiers, have confused Egypt and Morocco. Still, close enough and surely Roper would investigate?

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 23/03/2016 18:26

another thing I was thinking

it's all v gallant, isn't it

he shags Sophie ONCE. Then she gets murdered and he goes after the baddies, going undercover, risking his life and all that

then he and Jed have ONE knee trembler and then suddenly they're in cahoots, sharing confidential stuff, poking about in the jaws of death etc etc

I swear I've had one night stands where the gentleman hasn't even chummed me to the bus stop the day after

OnlyLovers · 23/03/2016 18:35

YES, Tangiers, that was it!

Re: checking the two-year gap, didn't they scrupulously give him a whole new backstory including being wanted for the murder of a person who wasn't even dead? I'm sure they could have/did confect a story that covered him for his Cairo time.

Although it's still totally possible that Roper actually knows Pine is operating under a fake story/identity.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 23/03/2016 18:45

yes, they did- but I reckon with a bit of poking around you'd be able to blow a hole in that pretty quick

if Roper smelt a rat, that is

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 23/03/2016 18:47

oh god yes of course you're right

I had forgotten he was supposed to be on the run

I'm making OH watch it so I get to see it again. This is handy for me as I have the attention span of a hamster Sad

OnlyLovers · 23/03/2016 18:50

yes, they did- but I reckon with a bit of poking around you'd be able to blow a hole in that pretty quick

Yes, exactly. The salient question for me is, did Roper get his people to do that poking around? (if he's got government types in his pocket then I'd imagine they made it easy for him) and does he therefore know all about Pine?

And if so, what's he going to do about it and when? And does Pine know that Roper knows?

bibbitybobbityyhat · 23/03/2016 18:57

One loose end I would like tied up - why did the Spanish lawyer's daughter commit suicide?

OnlyLovers · 23/03/2016 19:04

I don't know and I'm not sure we (the viewer) knows yet... happy to be corrected though!

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 23/03/2016 19:06

me too

I want to know if it was something I missed, or something that'll turn up in the last ep

bibbitybobbityyhat · 23/03/2016 19:06

No, I don't think we know either. I mean that I would like to see it tied up by the end of the series.

MissBattleaxe · 23/03/2016 19:08

It looked like a suicide but might have been a murder. It prompted a very telling scene where Roper was unmoved by it and mentioned it delaying a meeting. I remember how shocked Jed looked at his response.
