I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

LOL mitzy

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/03/2016 15:21

I did wonder that when Pine walked into the hotel. I thought 'keep the shades on man!'.

Erm ... is it too much to ask for a description of what is in that link? I certainly won't click on random links that people just dump into a thread.

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/03/2016 15:37

It's a link to a Guardian article 'How plausible is John le Carré’s The Night Manager?'

MissBattleaxe · 21/03/2016 15:40

It's a Guardian article on the plausibility of The Night Manager. Very interesting.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 15:41

Thanks both

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 16:19

** Grin

Muddha that's just what Dd and I were shouting at the telly!

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 16:52

The book has just reminded me that Angela set up Pine to abscond with money from the Zermatt hotel this allowing for Dicky to recognise him as the night manager. Don't think she had thought through a scenario where he'd end up back in Cairo though.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 16:59

Ah, you see I thought that was just to give him a criminal record ... something for Roper to find when organising the inevitable background checks and something to show that he (Pine) is a baddun who would likely be corruptible for cash.

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 17:07

Yes, that too. A double whammy.

I did lol at the 'never dug a grave that small before'

(I assumed it was a ref to Tom Hollander's height- I was watching it in daylight and the action was too dark to see on my telly plus I hide when there's a gory bit . If Hiddleston chopped Hollander into little pieces I take back my lol)

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 21/03/2016 20:07

Mr close together eyes has played a none-arsehole. In 'The Honorable Woman', which is a fantastic series, that is well worth tracking down!!

AdventuresOfADentist · 21/03/2016 20:48

I'd forgotten he was in that room. I'd also second your recommendation. He was also quite sweet in a radio 4 play recently, tho the downside with radio is you don't get to enjoy him visually.

PersisFord · 21/03/2016 21:18

Ok, I've just watched it. I think roper knows already and Jed and hiddlestone are going to end up making some kind of daring escape. Roper will dodge justice due to having mates in high places and Jed and tom will go on witness protection.

Although as a PP said, I don't care what happens to anyone except Angela burrrrrrrrrr

And, if I have ANY say in casting the next bond, I would have idris Elba or Aidan turner. Plausible killers and super hot. Hiddlestone can play the hotel manager, he was good at that!!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 21:25

I think Roper knows too and is playing the long game. He is not stupid. Why are they booked into that suite at the Nefertiti again? Not another coincidence surely.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 21/03/2016 21:38

I'll look that out room101

here has anyone pointed out yet that Angela Burrrrr and Corky were married in Rev

I've said it once and I'll say it again and again and again

if Hiddleston does Bond that'll be it for his career- he'll be Bond forevernever and not get to do any proper stuff any more

Pooseyfrumpture · 21/03/2016 22:05

So they wiped Cairo from Tree's CV? I'm getting confused now.

Gruach · 21/03/2016 22:45

I'd assumed Roper and co knew Tree (Grin) had worked in Egypt. Ridiculous risk otherwise surely; anyone might recognise him.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 22:45

Poosey
Tree had a change of identity after Cairo. He became Thomas Quince when he went under cover and moved to Devon and set up a criminal record.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 21/03/2016 22:49

Roper knows he was Jonathan Pine, but only from Zermatt afair

They managed to wipe Cairo

How the FUCK would that even be possible

NotCitrus · 21/03/2016 22:59

Not sure whether the "never dug a grave that small" was re Corky or that small boy with the napalmed grandma that Tree advised to turn back, but he and his father didn't.

It lost any plausibility when no-one was keeping a lookout in the camp, especially after the electric went out, but Hugh Laurie is clearly relishing being an evil git!

Only just realised that Pamela is the Perm Sec and Mayhew some obsolete title that is just below her, rather than them being Secretary of State and junior minister. Which means the politicians haven't been involved at all so far...

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 21/03/2016 23:02

Ohhhh gosh Blush

lol WITHDRAWN

Couldn't see that bit, it was too dark

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 23:03

The "grave that small" came before the deaths of the father and son. It was definitely a joke referring to Corky's stature.
