I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

I've read the book, so I am wondering if the ending will be the same, or if it will be different.

The Corky / Tree tussle was a bit silly, although I am glad that it wasn't too bloody. There was one point where the height difference was crazily obvious, and it looked like a silver birth and a little mushroom were having a cuddle.

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 11:16

Now that image made me laugh Zebra!
There was a scene last week where Corky was really straining to look up at Pine which prompted me to look up how tall Tom Hollander is.

thecatfromjapan · 21/03/2016 11:24

zebra : 't looked like a silver birth and a little mushroom were having a cuddle.'

Grin

I realised that I missed a lot of this week's episode because I was dreading what would happen if Tree was unmasked. I'm going to have to watch it again at some point.

witsender · 21/03/2016 11:30

I think TH is too soft looking to be Bond. There is just no steel there.

squoosh · 21/03/2016 11:30

I can't see the finale reaching a nice neat conclusion. Either Roper will be caught and the Whitehall baddies will get away with it or the Whitehall baddies get caught lining their pockets and Roper sails off into the sunset.

I really don't want anything to happen to Burr though. I'm okay with Pine and Jed dying as long as Burr is okay.

AdventuresOfADentist · 21/03/2016 11:40

gypsy I think they tried to appease little Tom here, by getting big Tom to sit down Grin

I'm really enjoying the programme- didn't know there was going to be a second series. Hope next weeks one isn't going to be too much of a cliff hanger as want a happy end for the tree! It doesn't look likely though.

bewarethesavagejaw1984 · 21/03/2016 11:54

Sorry to go back a couple of episodes but I've just watched episode 3 and have been bursting to say to someone why the hell didn't they push the 'find my iPhone button' for the son's missing phone? I push mine twice a day!

Or check the 'share my location' in contacts (I feel sure a master criminal like Roper would turn it on in his own son's phone) and they would have been able to to see it mysteriously beeping at the beach house instantly.

And why have the photos Tree took not been uploaded to iCloud?

And why hasn't the battery gone flat as presumably Tree doesn't have a charger?

It is so ridiculous - I can't suspend belief for any of it now.

squoosh · 21/03/2016 11:55

Ah there's going to be a second series? Hope that doesn't mean one of those ambiguous, fade to grey endings. They really piss me off.

I want to see Roper being bundled into the back of a police van saying 'it's a fair cop guv'nor'.

OnlyLovers · 21/03/2016 11:55

Someone says upthread that the son is so scared of Roper he wouldn't dare tell him that he'd lost his phone; there is a definite sense that he's confiding in Pine when he tells him it's lost.

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 12:17

Yes he tells Pine that he can't tell his dad as he will be very cross and Roper really doesn't look like a man you would want to be cross!

LovePGtipsMonkey · 21/03/2016 12:52

er so what happens when Roper tries to phone his son? he'll know he hasn't got his phone anymore obv!
Too many annoying inconsistencies and unlikely behaviour (indeed Pine confiding in Jed, in that tensae situation where they can't escape and she could be made to talk?) - but I'm trtying to overlook it because the acting and the general gist are exciting.

Didn't expect that it'd Pine who finishes off Corker.

And yes, don't get it why the govt crook still haven't told R that Pine is the spy while tipping him off re convoy - and surely OC KNEW that all her calls are listened to, and her plans would be screwed up.

MissBattleaxe · 21/03/2016 13:57

Last night's was spectacular and the atmosphere has become so menacing. Brilliant acting. Hugh Laurie is so versatile. You cannot believe he was Bertie Wooster or the Prince Regent. Those scary blue eyes!

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/03/2016 14:00

He reminded me of an alligator with its prey in sight when he relaxed back on his aeroplane seat and then momentarily flicked his eyes open again to give Pine an appraising look.

MissBattleaxe · 21/03/2016 14:05

That was a great scene Mitzy. The tension!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 14:18

Can anyone recap something for me?

When Roper "rescued" Pine after the fake attempted kidnapping, he recognised him from the hotel in Zurmat didn't he? So what reason did Pine give for being in Mallorca? how did he explain away that massive coincidence?

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/03/2016 14:22

Pine said he was on the run after having killed a bloke in Devon and having pinched the cash from the safe in Switzerland. I think.

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 14:22

I think he said he got a temp cheffing job at the restaurant . But at that point he was Thomas Quince on the run from the UK after killing a man in Cornwall. But I can't remember what explanation he gave as to why he stopped being Jonathan Pine, night manager in Zermatt? I haven't got that far in the book yet either!

LocalEditorSutton · 21/03/2016 14:37

I thought the penultimate scene showed Jed's (dead?) body being covered up or was that Pine/Birch remembering Sophie? Confused.

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/03/2016 14:39

The BBC wouldn't dare drop a clanger of a spoiler like that! The Points of View hotline would go into meltdown Grin

That was him remembering Sophie's murder.

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 14:39

That was Pine remembering Sophie as Roper and Jed's were staying in the same suite that she had been murdered in.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 15:00

Ok thanks. So the coincidence didn't really come into it then.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 21/03/2016 15:13

the big Whitehall baddie, who menaced Angela on her front step

that guy always plays arseholes

Sharon Horgan used him in Pulling (playing an arsehole) and Catastrophe (arsehole doc) and I'm sure I've seen him playing an arsehole in...other.....things??

hat tip to him, he's a smashing arsehole. I wonder if he ever gets fed up of it though

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/03/2016 15:16

Oh he is such an arsehole. With his posh, sneering, mean face. Having Mrs Angela beaten up. What a cunt.

I totally fancy him.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 21/03/2016 15:16

I'm aMAAAZed noone's spotted Hidders yet

none of the mercenaries? ...also High End Hotel world must be pretty niche, with a select pool of staff/customers

can't believe that, in all the ritzy titzy joints that Roper no doubt frequents, noone's yet gone oooh, he-llloooo what's your face, where've you bin since cairo
