I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

I hope that supercilious Whitehall cunty chops gets a smack in the noggin at some stage next week.

AimUnder · 20/03/2016 22:11

That was nerve wrecking.

Apparently episode 6 has been leaked online due to a BBC mistake, I had quick search but couldn't find anything. Wouldn't mind spoilers ;)

Purplepicnic · 20/03/2016 22:12

I love the idea that British intelligence (or a branch of it) works out of an old basement and is staffed by people in frumpy cardigans drinking tea in chipped mugs.

CaveMum · 20/03/2016 22:12

Eeeeeeeeek that was tense! I was convinced Jed was a goner at one point. Agree that Roper must know it's Pine/Birch, too much of a coincidence that it all starts going wrong after the new arrival joins in.

AimUnder · 20/03/2016 22:18

I wonder how much of it is fiction and how much is not? It wouldn't surprise me if a very similar version of it is actually happening.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 20/03/2016 22:20

I think Pine's for it. Anyone read the book?

AdriftOnMemoryBliss · 20/03/2016 22:22

no, i'm tempted, but i dont want to spoil it, lol

LOL. I'll read the book after next week.

Footofthestairs · 20/03/2016 22:30

I've read the book, but still greatly enjoying this adaptation. It's veered away from the book a little bit now. Very much looking forward to next week to see how the bbc end it.

CaveMum · 20/03/2016 22:33

Did anyone see the countdown of the Top 10 spy films, as voted for by actual spies/ex-spies over Christmas? They voted Le Carre's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as the most realistic. I think it probably is very bureaucratic and actually quite slow paced, as well as a lot of "better the devil you know".

BossWitch · 20/03/2016 22:39

Blimey, it's half ten now and I still feel nervous! What the fuck was Tree thinking, telling Jed everything in a very much not soundproof tent?! Anyone could be outside listening!

Very excited for next week. Been hearing rumours of a series two which actually worries me a bit, hope it doesn't mean that there's a lack of resolution of this one. I want all the loose ends tied up neatly!

squoosh · 20/03/2016 22:41

It was all done and dusted for poor old Corkers pretty quickly wasn't it?

BossWitch · 20/03/2016 22:45

I was quite glad about that squoosh, I've been dreading a protracted torture/death scene involving corky and pine. I'm a wimp but I could cope with them just lamping each other!

GypsyFl0ss · 20/03/2016 22:47

I've got the book and now I'm very tempted to whizz through to the end!

Loved Corky's character , Tom Hollander is a wonderful actor. Can't say the same for the other Tom. He's just so very bland. Hugh Laurie is being less affable and more terrifying as time goes on.

TheDailyWail · 20/03/2016 23:17

I never thought I could dislike Hugh Laurie but Roper really is a nasty character!

Obs2016 · 21/03/2016 06:19

Boss witch, was thinking the same - why is pine telling jed everything, in a tent that you can hear everything?

I actually said out loud "where's corky"? Expecting the camera to cut to him loitering outside the tent, smugly grinning that he'd heard everything.

HalleLouja · 21/03/2016 06:37

I am going off Pine as time goes on. Was sorry to see Corky go. He was a fab character. The first episode Pine was suited to the Night Manager role. Making sure everyone including the hot woman was happy.

I knew poor OCs husband was going to be at the receiving end of something unpleasant. OC isn't secret service I thought she was police / enforcement.

I heard about the second series. Apparently the book has a few loose ends so maybe they use that for another series. To be fair I think one is enough. Although I have really enjoyed it.

Drinksforeveryone · 21/03/2016 06:45

Last night's episode was excellent.

Agree that Roper is getting suspicious of Pine. More and more so. I think he shouldn't be telling Jed everything - am not sure if she wouldn't crack under pressure and tell all she knows. Although between them they did frame Corky perfectly.

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 07:03

I don't believe that Roper thinks it was Corky at all. I think he is giving Pine and Jed enough rope to hang themselves and I'm rather worried that Jed's demise will include chemical weapons.

I also find it hard to believe that when Pine disabled the generator, allowing him to skulk about the site, no-one saw him...even when there were people milling about trying to fix it?

Drinksforeveryone · 21/03/2016 07:29

I agree - don't think that Roper suspected Corky.

I think he does suspect Pine/Birch - as he is a newbie. He just appeard and then was signed up to the team? Why would Roper trust him - it's a bit of a change from being a night manager to an arms dealer's assistant?

Hmmmm

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 07:45

Plus as mentioned upthread, everything started going wrong since the arrival of Pine.

CaveMum · 21/03/2016 07:51

Can I just say I love whoever came up with "Tree" to describe Pine/Birch. It made me properly guffaw last night Grin

PollyPerky · 21/03/2016 08:16

So who is the real mole?
If the weapons weren't unloaded from the ship, someone has been tipping off Roper for a long time. There are 3 main suspects - don't know their names- but the guys in MI5/6- the black guy, the guy who is being moved to another dept soon and the blonde. Or maybe Neil Morrissey whose been out of the last episode. One of them is a double agent.

Pine is very silly confiding in Jed because she may well tell all under torture. Ok she's saved his neck once so far, but what's her next move?

Allofaflumble · 21/03/2016 08:17

I think TH would need to beef up a bit to play Bond. Lovely as he looked in those khakis, I would like to see him carry a bit more weight or muscle. He is so very slender as is Jed. All those bones bumping together.

GypsyFl0ss · 21/03/2016 08:52

I thought it was shown in the previous episode that Pamela in the trouser suit is in cahoots with Dromgroole from River House, him with the close set eyes who came to Angela's house to threaten her. They have been falsifying documents and selling arms to Roper so it is in their best interests to keep him apprised of the situation re the arms. Roper even knew that the operation was called Limpet. What they don't appear to have told a Roper...yet...is that Pine is his mole. I think R will leave P to hands of Freddie Hamid.
