I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

Sadly missed Happy Valley and now can't see me finding time to catch up.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 15/03/2016 11:34

Aw, I thought it was a great scene to explain why she's so passionate about going after Roper. cynical cows indeed Grin

MissGintyMarlow · 15/03/2016 11:56

I thought it was totally unnecessary, it's quite clear Roper's a bad 'un without all that emoting. #proudtobecynical

squoosh · 15/03/2016 12:06

I thought it was necessary. The Roper we've seen so far is suave and charming, it's easy to think of him a 'nice baddie' rather than a man who saw a field of kids with their skin melted off and thought 'hmmm, money to be made in this weapons business'. Gave me a bit of a jolt anyway

Plus if you had witnessed something like that I don't think the odd tear when talking about it would be over the top.

MadamedeChevreuse · 15/03/2016 12:28

So was he actually there at sports day with her then? I didnt get that bit. She said "that's when I first saw roper" but Im not sure if she meant literally. If so, what was he doing there? Was he an army officer or something?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 15/03/2016 12:55

Y, y squoosh.

Casting Hugh Laurie was a good move cos you can't help but think he'd only make a nice baddie. But with Burr's tale and I assume other things coming to light we'll get the true sense of just how evil he really, really is.

PersisFord · 15/03/2016 14:34

I have to say.....it's beautiful, and everyone is v well dressed....but I'm bored. Time people started dying. And not just tedious obvious people like the lawyer. Jed? The nice American? Corky? They are all not long for this world I reckon!!

squoosh · 15/03/2016 14:37

The only reason Corky has escaped the Grim Reaper so far is because he's really short and can easily dodge the scythe. Surely time is running out for him though!

squoosh · 15/03/2016 14:40

I thought his number was up after the great lobster salad debacle.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 15/03/2016 15:00

Roper seems very tolerant of Corky. They love each other, really.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 15/03/2016 15:01

IMHO lobster salads are overrated.

PersisFord · 15/03/2016 15:18

It looked tiny as well (although I was on a fast day so everything to do with food was prob a bit exaggerated).

Maybe they will make pine kill corky as a kind of initiation ritual? I may be confusing my genres here

Gruach · 15/03/2016 15:28

Until the lobster débâcle I found Corky so fascinating to watch that it seemed a pity he wasn't on the right side of the law. Gone off him now.

Firstlawofholes · 15/03/2016 15:28

Am I the only one who was irritated by the fact that in the "6 months earlier" flashback in Switzerland, TH and OC had a conversation referring to her bump ("first and only one")? If she was already meant to be showing then, how pregnant is she during the later events?!? Would have been better to continue ignoring it / covering it up at that point, no?

Otherwise I think she's great, perfect casting.

Gruach · 15/03/2016 15:33

I'd assumed that as they actually acknowledged the pregnancy she might go into labour at a strategic moment, thus changing the course of events.

There was a moment when I was afraid Pine would be forced to kill one of Mrs Burr's team in order to prevent his cover being blown.

How many more episodes?

squoosh · 15/03/2016 15:38

Two more episodes I believe.

squoosh · 15/03/2016 15:39

Is there a chance that Pine will switch allegiances? Is he enjoying the high life a bit too much with jolly old Roper?

PersisFord · 15/03/2016 15:45

No, because he is too weirdly moral, and also because he is presumably going to try and get rid of roper so he can have Jed and they can all live together with her little boy.

and also because that would be too interesting and exciting

MrsToddsShortcut · 15/03/2016 18:05

Loved the scene with Corky in the restaurant - added Tom Hollander to my list of TV BAFTA nominees for next year. I love Hiddles but it must be slightly galling when you're nominally the lead and you are being acted off the set by Hollander and House (and I think Hids is a great actor).

Actually I hated the sex scene. I get it's a pacey thriller and they can't be faffing around with condoms due to time constraints but I hate that stuff where they snog for 3 seconds and he's ripping off his belt. It's all that magical penis stuff - Snog/belt off/three thrusts/amazing orgasm!

Harrumph.

2rebecca · 15/03/2016 18:44

Would he really settle down with Jed though? OK she's pretty but she comes across as a man mad empty headed flirt. The woman he fancied who got killed in the first episode had more to her. Jed is very footballer's wifey. I can see him getting bored of her once he has her and her looking elsewhere in her see through dresses.

SweetPeaPods · 15/03/2016 18:51

I tried to watch episode 1 this afternoon while dc were napping but iPlayer kept sticking so I gave up. Going to try again later.

PersisFord · 15/03/2016 21:16

surely that's how everyone has sex?? Quick snog and almost immediate simultaneous orgasm upon penetration without a hair out of place?? Grin

Pico2 · 15/03/2016 21:42

When the boy left to fly back to his mum I was a bit confused. Is he really off on a plane to be met at the other end without security? When his dad already thinks he's been part of a foiled kidnapping.

bornwithaplasticspoon · 15/03/2016 22:29

Pico2, we thought the same. He'd have his own bodyguard surely.

spanglyflip · 15/03/2016 22:51

PersisFord yes i'm sure that's how everyone shags?!?! haha good point.

I bloody hate sex scenes, it's fine to show them kissing in the bedroom but we don't need to see anything else. Sex scenes are for people to coy to admit they want to watch porn, and porn is a whole other thread! I'm not a prude, I just like to chose when and where sex is in my life, not cropping up when I tryig relax watching tv

back to the night manager....can anyone tell me how i'm meant to wait 5 whole days for the next episode!!!!!
