I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

So you reckon Pine/Birch sprays himself with pheremone and got everyone to be in love with him so they don't chop his head off? I mean, Roper himself must be half in love with him too.

I find OC really irritating.
The sex scene between Tom and skinny blonde bird was so unrealistic. A quick screw against the wall is really going to be orgasmic.
I find Roper the most likeable of all the characters.
He should get a Kalashnikov and gun them all down and run off with Corky.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/03/2016 15:19

I love OC, but she is becoming a bit ubiquitous. She's even doing all the voice over too. Has Stephen Mangan upset someone? Sad

squoosh · 14/03/2016 15:22

I was thinking bloody Katherine Kelly is on every programme I seem to switch on. Night Manager, Happy Valley, that Selfridge nonsense....

GlindatheFairy · 14/03/2016 15:24

A quick screw against the wall is really going to be orgasmic.

Speak for yourself Grin

bornwithaplasticspoon · 14/03/2016 15:31

'The Affair' was also a fan of up against the wall action, even when there was a comfy bed three feet away Blush

Gruach · 14/03/2016 15:36

Hmm ... Not sure about this episode. It was very slow (particularly so if your phone keeps cutting out so it takes two hours to watch). Too many lingering shots and locked eyes that would be impossible in the circumstances in RL.

The London scenes were mostly a bit cliched and farcical surely? I didn't find the directing of O.C.'s monologue entirely convincing - I daresay tears have to be used as shorthand for 'intense emotion' but ime people don't cry when recalling dreadful events. Or are we supposed to infer that it is her peculiarly womanly condition that makes her prone to weeping (and therefore weak and unreliable)? Also the murder scene was so artificially contrived it could have been an art gallery installation.

Hope for better next week.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 14/03/2016 15:45

Tears of rage Gruach. She's a very angry woman.

Gruach · 14/03/2016 15:54

Also - why did American Guy have to take his exalted self over to Madrid to find Spanish Lawyer? Don't they have police there? (It's not as if tipping off the police would have hindered the spying stuff.)

Cerseirys · 14/03/2016 15:54

Am I the only one who doesn't fancy Tom Hiddleston? He's decent enough in the role but I find him extremely smug and self-satisfied.

bornwithaplasticspoon · 14/03/2016 15:59

I don't fancy him.

His grinning is annoying. We were wondering if it's nervousness due to the dangerous situation he's in or if the director has encouraged it for the swooning viewers.

squoosh · 14/03/2016 16:03

I don't fancy him but I don't find him smug either.

SaliShoes · 14/03/2016 16:22

A quick screw against the wall is really going to be orgasmic [says PP in sarcastic tone]

well, it was for him and she was presumably making enthusiastic noises.

SaliShoes · 14/03/2016 16:25

I think TH has a really sweet, sensitive face. He looks more suited to playing romantic period leads rather than MI6. And I do hope he's not the 'New' James Bond as he looks too young and sensitive.

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 14/03/2016 19:42

Had plenty of quick screws that have resulted in in, umm, extreme pleasure. So not unrealistic imho.

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 14/03/2016 20:00

Did anyone else think the iris scan might come up, in a bad way, later?

lavenderhoney · 14/03/2016 20:06

I don't think there was any on screen chemistry between jed and pine. And her calling him makes her look needy which she certainly isn't.

Hugh Laurie is much hotter:) and he's not a stupid man, ( character!) he would notice all the little smiles etc.

And no way would roper be scrambling about checking the merchandise. He'd be in a bar somewhere with lots of witnesses and a throwaway friend with a throwaway pay phone surely? I know nothing of international arms dealing but I'd like to think I wouldn't head down to to docks and show my face:)

PseudoBadger · 14/03/2016 20:07

Roper didn't seem to happy about the Iris Scan

PseudoBadger · 14/03/2016 20:07

Arrrghhh! *Too

CaveMum · 14/03/2016 20:22

I'm guessing Roper wouldn't normally be at the docks to check out the merchandise - the dodgy dealer guy seemed to know Sandy but didn't acknowledge Roper. Perhaps he just went along to this one to see how Pine/Birch handled it?

goldface · 14/03/2016 20:32

I'm loving it but, much as I love OC, does anyone else find her accent a bit iffy?

NeverEverAnythingEver · 14/03/2016 21:08

Perhaps Roper wants Pine to take over in the Jed department too? Hmm. Is that too outrageous? Am I in the wrong novel?

JellyBaby26 · 15/03/2016 06:48

Goldfacesa - me me me. I don't get why she's half northern? !

MissGintyMarlow · 15/03/2016 10:47

am I the only cynical cow here?!

Nope, I couldn't bear that speech - it was total Bafta-bait stuff, awful overacting. Grin

But I am loving the series overall, best thing on telly in an age imvho

Gruach · 15/03/2016 10:50

You haven't caught Happy Valley then, Ginty?Grin
