The bottles are lovely, I don't even chuck them, just peel the label off and use it as a candle holder. It's the only gin I can drink neat and I've tried many

On top tips, recently discovered the merits of slicing limes and lemons then freezing the slices for use in a g&t. No ice to dilute the drink!

pixieg1rl · 13/12/2015 12:16

The Botanist gin looks lovely, I may take a trip to Waitrose to hunt that one out. I normally go for Bombay Sapphire or Plymouth. Tanqueray over proof stuff is good, but lethal.

There's a distillery just up the road from me, www.englishspiritdistillery.com/ that I need to go visit, they are very generous with the samples, just need someone to volunteer to drive me home.

Morning,

I was curious and may have googled about Strictly and discovered how you know who has left.

Am looking forward to my 24 hrs with CJ, I do hope he arrives wearing his combat gear, I've got the afghan grime make up ready Grin

I may have done the same thing ice...

icemistOBE · 13/12/2015 13:14

I go like timehop for the past 5 weeks or so, it's been full of CJ shots, now I'm getting the ones as King Antoine.... Very few of the boys though ConfusedHmmShock

It was too easy to find Jen. Will still watch though Smile

Afternoon. All this talk of gin reminds me of how me and gin fell out in a serious way on a student holiday in Spain many, many years ago. Afterwards I switched my allegiance to Vodka and it's stood by me through thick and thin although I only usually have a small bottle in the house at Christmas. Might just have bought some yesterday Grin Neither myself nor DH drink very much but strangely we have been blessed with a DD who seems to have been indoctrinated somewhere with the idea that alcohol is akin to devil worship. Consequently she heartily disapproves of us when we have the odd drink on a weekend. She's a bit like Saffy in Absolutely Fabulous but perhaps the healthy message is getting through to kids, these days. You don't see loads of kids smoking anymore - not like when I was at school.

As for SCD - yes I also know the outcome but I'll still watch - as I said before there's nothing else on a Sunday night!

pixieg1rl · 13/12/2015 17:50

I have covered the house stuff in glitter, tidied the house, put up the decorations and done the tree. Relaxing with a beer, sorry Saffy. Frigging knackered.

I too have seen the SCD result, in my defence I don't watch the results show because I'm wrangling DS into bed and getting ready for my Monday morning early start.

Nickel45 · 13/12/2015 18:32

Just been to a lovely christingle, visited friends earlier, delivered presents and driven miles ... Left DH at home since 10 this morning, all he had to do was get the tree down from the loft and put it up. Kids come in excited ... No tree! It's still in the loft. Aaaaaaaagh! Sorry, but ever so slightly mightily pissed off! Not having a great time at the moment, but will try and find some christmas or any kind of spirit to drink. Never had gin, but thinking I might have to give it a go :)

pixieg1rl · 13/12/2015 18:42

Grr, that would be doghouse time from me as well nickel unless something major like the roof collapsing took priority. What did he do instead?

Currently going through cookery books to work out what to make for Xmas dinner. It's just MrP and DS so I don't want to go to a lot of faff. Last year we had a curry.

Onlygirljen · 13/12/2015 19:09

nickel I'm upset on your behalf for that - unless he has a solid excuse I'd be applying a swift aim at the balls the silent treatment for a good while!!

Richtea19 · 13/12/2015 19:20

nickel I would be mighty pissed off too, was there football on? This sounds like a good excuse to start drinking gin!

pixie I remember your curry from last year and thought how brilliant you were! Because we are at my sisters for Christmas Day I wasn't going to order a turkey maybe beef instead for Boxing Day.

MaddieMoo82 · 13/12/2015 19:21

Oh a curry sounds good pix. It's just me, MrMads and DS (7mths) and he insisted we order an m&s 3 bird roast serving 6.... Cold meats long into the new year I reckon! Hmm

MaddieMoo82 · 13/12/2015 19:23

Oh and nickel that's rubbish, definately silent treatment or withholding cooked meals as punishment? MrMads only needed to go into town and get his sil a birthday present. Came home 4 hours later with nothing. After interrogation he said the shops were too busy and stressful so went and watched football instead. Gaaaa!

Richtea19 · 13/12/2015 19:25

Tess looks like she has those magnex toys in her dress?!!

orphan · 13/12/2015 19:32

Well, successful trip to get tree - no strops from me and it fitted in the tree, just. Will tackle the putting it up and decorating later in the week. Gin def needed then

jen as you know, whenever I'm at the Hoxton I get sidetracked by the cocktails, the Pornstar, in particular. Very rarely had just a g&t there, but I think it was Sipsmith. Will def try Botanist now. I'm enjoying a Hendricks at the mo.Grin

I'm a big fan of trad Christmas dinner but a pull all the stops out curry would be my second choice pixie.

Ilovelblue · 13/12/2015 19:47

ice expect CJ with you in about 40 mins. He is in his civvies as he doesn't think the neighbours will be watching in the dark!

As expected he and my friend didn't exactly hit it off. They were polite but have a feeling there might be fireworks on the way home......

Ilovelblue · 13/12/2015 19:50

Nickel that's rotten. Ditto to what all the others have said. XX

Richtea19 · 13/12/2015 19:53

SCD shock!

icemistOBE · 13/12/2015 19:54

Gutted!! Anita is much better than Katie, but her dance was lovely.

OP posts:
Onlygirljen · 13/12/2015 20:14

Gutted at that result, but they should never have picked that dance for the dance off. Got the impression the judges were looking for an excuse to get rid of her for a few weeks now, and that routine was the perfect excuse for it.

Final will be a lot more boring without Gleb to drool over Anita in it. Angry

Ilovelblue · 13/12/2015 20:26

This is the first week I've not checked up on the William Hill website to see who gets knocked out. Poor Gleb oh and Anita. Bang goes our bet. We are left with Katie and Jay. Katie wasn't my choice, but my friend's. If neither of them win, I would choose Georgia over Kellie, probably as I watch Corrie and not EE but there is a slight OG connection there too of course.

Got our office Christmas lunch which I've organised as per usual and must remember to take the money tomorrow. I make them all choose in advance and even take the spreadsheet with me for anyone who might have forgotten what they ordered. With the money for our charity fundraising and this, I am responsible for a four figure sum, none of which is mine! I need a bodyguard maybe to protect me. Now Gleb is out of the running, wonder if he might do it?

Nickel45 · 13/12/2015 20:32

Oh no, is Gleb out?

Thank you for your sympathy annoyance on my behalf. I was thinking I should have started one of those aibu threads!!! I've been slamming stuff, and am now going to veg in bed with baileys and chocolate!! Ha! Apparently he spent the day "cleaning the entire house", what he actually did was hoover the lounge and hall, and then watched football for the rest of the day and had a nap! I'd do a damn site more cleaning if I'd realised that was what I was supposed to do!

I've ordered my pre-sorted-out Turkey from our local Cook shop ... Pick it up on the Tuesday, shove it in the oven Friday morning. Sorted! Did make a cake on Friday finally, actually really impressed with it, but it's my mums recipe ... Just need to decorate it now.

Ilovelblue · 13/12/2015 20:36

ice are you there - has CJ turned up yet?

pixieg1rl · 13/12/2015 20:37

Real dearth of tele on tonight, I see A Knight's Tale was on, but I turned over too late to see Paul Bettany in the nip catch it. I miss the watch a long. I have still got Poldark on the tv box, so I'm watching that.

Nickel45 · 13/12/2015 20:40

MASH is on true entertainment pix :)
Think I might have myself a bit of BS42, have you seen the Christmas special one where Towerblock turns up?
