I recommend a curry for Xmas dinner mads, we had a rendang which has the advantage of being something you can make in a slow cooker the day before (it tastes better that way). I'm thinking of a ham this year, there will be beef on Boxing Day.

Ilovelblue · 13/12/2015 20:43

I'm watching a Michael Portillo Great Train Journey which I recorded ages ago. I can't for shame watch OG again!

pixieg1rl · 13/12/2015 20:44

I have nickel. Got 1&2 on DVD and series 3 on the box as well. Series 3 is on my Xmas list, but I don't expect I'll get it.

Ilovelblue · 13/12/2015 20:50

pixie I always use this Nigella recipe for any ham I do - everyone seems to like it. You can do it all the day before and just put it in the oven about an hour before you want to eat it. (In fact, I bought the ham at a local farm shop only this afternoon in readiness for Boxing Day).

Evening all.

Had a great time today at the Christmas party. Met up with a friend from school and her sister with their kids. Trouble is said friends Mam works in the Cafe there and we were given free coffee, cakes and sausage sandwiches on the QT of course!

It wasn't until I got home that I felt horrendous. Not sure if it was a caffeine comedown but I had the shakes, felt so sick and was really emotional! DH thought I'd been drinking! I think I may have eaten too much but only just getting myself pulled round. Confused dread to think about the calories

Gutted about Anita but she should be so proud she got to the semis. Thought Katie danced the worst yesterday.

Can't face doing any jobs right now as my stomach is so upset so going to catch up on some TV.

pixieg1rl · 13/12/2015 21:46

Yuck, in the days before I had a child when I didn't drink much coffee I used to have the wobbles and cold sweats when I drank too much coffee. Hope you manage to sleep Kelly.

Ilovelblue · 13/12/2015 21:55

It's odd, isn't it pixie because coffee has no effect on me like that at all. Never has had really. In fact, I've just made another coffee and am eating a banana. We had a late lunch (in fact the service was dreadful) so I've not wanted to eat anything since we got home but feeling a little peckish now.

Hope you feel better in the morning Kelly.

KellyHb · 13/12/2015 23:03

Normally coffee has no affect on me at all pix & ilove. Maybe the small cake I had on top didn't help but I don't remember it being a rich one. Very strange.

pixieg1rl · 14/12/2015 08:31

What else can you do with a 5:30am wake up (courtesy of a rat in the loft, traps have been bought) other than make an early start and be in the office by 7:30?

Christmas crafts at DS's school this afternoon, just as I thought I'd washed all yesterday's glitter off.

KellyHb · 14/12/2015 09:34

Morning all.

Commiserations on your early start pix. Does that mean you'll get a nice and early finish?

Still don't feel too well so having some buttered toast with no jam. About to start writing cards. Hopefully I'll get it done before I pick the boys up.

Nickel45 · 14/12/2015 10:25

Hope you feel better soon kel sending hugs (why isn't there a hug emotithingy?)

My kids are at a panto this afternoon, the whole school goes, so they are back late. My plan is to get the presents all wrapped ... if they arrive from Amazon!! School finishes on Thursday, so I really want to get it all done before then. That's the plan anyway!

Hope you get to leave early tonight pix, or get a long liquid lunch Xmas Smile

KellyHb · 14/12/2015 10:40

Thanks nickel A hug one would be a good one to have wouldn't it? I'm surprised there isn't one.

I hope your wrapping goes better than my card writing. I've only done ten and my hand's already gone into cramp. Ouch.

cjwoofwoof · 14/12/2015 10:55

Joyous Yuletide greetings my little cockwombles, it's great to be back full of mulled wine cheer and mince pie plumptiousness Grin

No excuses about RL commitments here - I've simply been helping AT to get over his latest love split and sympathetically plaiting his wig on more than one occasion. Unfortunately Matthias got wind of it and things got a bit ugly at one point. Thank goodness for the NHS is all I can say, as they stitched all severed appendages straight back on once I'd packed them in the handy pack of Birds Eye frozen peas I always carry in my bumbag for emergencies. All seems to be back fully functioning if a little stiff at times but I'm not complaining

pixieg1rl · 14/12/2015 11:11

Ah, woof, your ability to find a stiff appendage positive in every situation is an inspiration to us all.

kuiakaituhi · 14/12/2015 13:38

Wonder why I got to thinking about Ma'a Nonu when you talked aboutstiff appendages, Woof? He has been all over the news here...just won Player of the Year at Rugby awards. I know you're partial to him.
Hot and sunny here, we have begun school holidays for "big" kids, littlies finish this Friday, most for six weeks.
Have just watched Matthias in "Suite Francaise". Looks a picture in military gear, even if it is WW2 German. Excellent movie, everyone.

cjwoofwoof · 14/12/2015 15:42

Ah yes Matthias in SF, if you can overlook the fact he's playing a Nazi albeit a kind hearted one , is very easy on the eye indeed kuia especially the military haircut compared to the smock and curls in FFtheMCrowd - extremely tasty indeed. Ah bless that big bear Mr Nonu, I bet he has no trouble keeping a stiff appendage, which alas AT now struggles with since "The Incident". Despite my tireless assistance, I think Rupert's left over audible crack Gorilla Tape may have to be utilised - must check with orph to see if she's still got a leftover roll, and remember to pack a bigger pack of frozen peas for next time Xmas Shock

icemistOBE · 14/12/2015 16:48

Have just waved CJ off Sad Ladies in work were all very excited to meet him. He wore the combat gear and the special afghan grime make-up I purchased a while back.

I bet they are very envious of you ice. I know I got quite a few brownie points from my work colleagues for having such a handsome escort around the building.

MaddieMoo82 · 14/12/2015 20:18

Oooh evening all. Looooong day after seeing every hour of the night with DS who apparently has croup. He gave us a real fright last night but seems more settled today. The nights are worse for a few days apparently so dreading tonight Hmm

Hope you catch the little furry friends in the loft pixie so you can get some sleep. I am jealous of the Xmas crafts though.... Love a bit of glitter me Grin

Hope everyone's card writing/present wrapping plans are going well....

woof your bumbag really does sound like it is filled for all eventualities... Sounds like was required after 'the incident' Shock

pixieg1rl · 14/12/2015 20:37

Oh dear Maddie, croup always sounds awful. I hope you and MrMads can take it in turns to sleep tonight.

Crafting afternoon was fun, but only one dad turned up which has set me into a grr mood. Loads of the mums took the afternoon off work to come.

Nigella doing ham so I'm taking notes

Nickel45 · 14/12/2015 20:47

Aw mads hope you're littlie is better soon, and sleeps better than you think xx ((hugs))

Onlygirljen · 14/12/2015 20:48

I bought a Christmas ham yesterday and in need of inspiration for what to do with it pix so any top tips from nigella are welcomed here! My mil is insisting on doing christmas Confused so I'm thinking Christmas Eve / Boxing Day ham with mac n cheese might be on the cards at this rate.

Well done to those of you doing Christmas cards, I can never be arsed find the time to do any, but I'm not really into cards at the best of times.

Onlygirljen · 14/12/2015 20:49

Ps mads fingers crossed that the little one has a better night tonight and feels better soon. Xxx

Ilovelblue · 14/12/2015 21:02

Jen I swear by this recipe I posted yesterday for a ham.

vik-recipes.blogspot.co.uk/2010/08/nigella-lawsons-aromatic-spiced-ham.html

It's so easy because you can cook the ham in advance on the hob and then just whack it in the oven for half an hour or so on the day you intend to eat it. Do you soak your ham overnight beforehand? I always do.

Maddie when I did some emergency babysitting last weekend for my friend whose parents were marooned in Grasmere due to the floods, her 3 yo had croup and had been very poorly. He'd been on oxygen the previous day but was recovering. Hope you have a better night tonight.

MaddieMoo82 · 14/12/2015 21:04

Thanks lovely ladies Flowers. He's been asleep an hour so fingers crossed. He sounded horrendous last night.

Ooh love a ham. It's usually our Boxing Day meal at my mums with egg and chips but not this year as they are doing a buffet Smile
