So pixie is the school year totally different then? Does the new school year start in February or does it still conform to the old English model (broadly related to harvest time in the UK so that all the farmers children could help bring in corn and wheat - memories of Far From the Madding crowd now flooding my brain, haystacks and smocks!). It's such an alien concept to lots of us northeners to think of Christmas trees and BBQ's at the same time! Mind you Christmas trees with snow is a pretty alien concept in this part of the world these days. I reckon that for most of the last ten years Christmas Day has been mild and wet. We usually get one week in January when a couple of inches of snow are forecast and we all grind to a halt - what a batty country!

kuiakaituhi · 28/12/2015 11:33

Exactly,Kelly! The reason he's so damn sexy is you DON'T see his bum,he's a terrible tease!!!
Top off is about as much as you'll ever get. Compare the FOB gym scene with Mr Darcy/Colin Firth in his wet shirt scene. I prefer the wet shirt...What about you?

pixieg1rl · 28/12/2015 11:52

It was a long time ago rhu, but we worked to the Australian school calendar, which I think was 4 terms with a long holiday over Xmas/new year and 2-3 week holidays over the rest of the year. I came back to school in the UK when I was 10 so before then is a bit hazy. It just seemed like normal school stuff to me!

I think the restraint and lingering looks school of romance is wonderful, the whole purpose of it is to ratchet up the tension, a bit more, culmination Wink, might have been nice, but it would probably not have held our interest quite so long. TG played it very well, just as we thought we were going to get our happy ending he threw Smurf's death in and it all went to pot again, which is a great bit of drama. I would love to have known what he had in store for Molly's story had LT signed up for series 2. (Don't lynch me here), I'd really liked to see how CJ and MD could have made it work (if indeed they could). The FOB and deployment experience must be very intense and a lot like living life on fast forward, how do you adjust to life outside that and back to normality? And when you think you're there it's probably all change again with new postings and new starts once more.

kuiakaituhi · 28/12/2015 12:49

Rhu Yep we do call it summer now...temperatures here are in the high 20s and it's harvest time for a long period over November- February Where I live, we grow asparagus, corn and a native sweet potato called kumara (KOOmahrah) as major cash and export crops. As well there are wonderful strawberries as well as boysenberries, blackberries etc. We can go to the orchards and pick fresh off the vines. Blueberries come a little later as do all sorts of stone fruit and, further south, wonderful cherries, most of which are exported to Japan.
Lots of farmers make hay for winter feed at this time of the year. It's really important when we have very dry winters to have hay as feed for our dairy cows.
Christmas is in the summer here, but we have lots of baby animals which sort of matches the season's theme. Personally, I'd love to experience a Northern hemisphere Christmas.
Our school year runs from late January to late November for older students doing external examinations. the younger kids finish mid December. I work in a secondary school as a counsellor after many years of teaching and really enjoy that the end of the work year and the end of the calendar year coincide. Guess, though, it's just what you get used to.

kuiakaituhi · 28/12/2015 13:01

Pix,Kelly and anyone else who's peeved about the lack of real action in OG, I'd suggest that TG knows as a writer and director that once you've
"done IT", then "IT's done". Never quite the same the second, third or eleventy-seventh time, or so they say. Personally. in this case, I have my doubts about that.
But, seriously, I think it's a very effective way to ratchet up the heat, as ALL OF YOU BLOODY WELL KNOW!!! Otherwise, why would we all still be theorising and lusting after it a year after the programme finished?

moojangles · 28/12/2015 14:22

Think I may be an AT convert...just seen some pics from the Agatha Christie thing on tv( recorded to watch at a later date)... he's wearing a very low slung towel

kuiakaituhi · 28/12/2015 14:26

Who's AT?

moojangles · 28/12/2015 14:32

Aidan Turner, was in Recent Poldark adaptation

MaddieMoo82 · 28/12/2015 15:34

Ooh I might watch him again on iplayer Grin

moojangles · 28/12/2015 15:38

swoon

kuiakaituhi · 28/12/2015 15:53

Gotcha. Hot as. However, he was here in NZ being a dwarf in "The Hobbit" a wee while back. Likewise Richard Armitage and James Nesbitt. Did you see what Peter Jackson and Weta Workshops did with them all? Didn't look much like this lovely creature!!

pixieg1rl · 28/12/2015 17:02

Gosh, woof's been working him hard.

Not seen that yet, but it's on the box ready for me to pause and get a closer look enjoy.

Just back from a lovely meet up with Nickel, we both stuck to coffee. Luckily neither of us turned out to be dodgy old men, although the pub was full of them.

Rhubarb01 · 28/12/2015 19:23

Thanks for the information Kuia and Pixie. I've never had the opportunity to visit the southern hemisphere - somewhat obviously - but it sounds fascinating. A colleague has been to New Zealand and had some interesting tales about visiting volcanoes on foot and a tower somewhere where people bungee jump past the windows of a restaurant while you are eating! She said the sheer terror in their faces as they pass the window is very off-putting. I'd certainly like to make a trip down under one day - but it probably won't be until the kids have grown up!

The school year is interesting because there have been suggestions in this country that the exam period should be moved from May/June to December/January because so many people suffer from hayfever in the summer and it would enable students to apply for universities after they get their exam results rather than doing everything provisionally and there being a last minute scramble for places in September just after the results are published.

Although I'm well acquainted with the story of 'And then there were none' I watched it with half an eye on Boxing Day but I didn't see it yesterday. Might just need to catch up in a minute if the clip above is anything to go by. Actually I watched 'Harry Price: Ghost Hunter' with Rafe Spall this afternoon and quite enjoyed it. I know it's based on a novel but I couldn't help thinking that ITV were lining it up as a potential series. It seemed to have all the elements for a series with a small group of possible regular characters. Did anyone else see it?

Rhubarb01 · 28/12/2015 19:27

I should add that Rafe Spall wasn't sitting on my sofa while I was watching - just the dog!

Also - passed our favourite hotel yesterday - twice - and the rest of the family gave me withering looks as I gazed longingly in its direction and said "Ah...the Bailbrook House Hotel....."

pixieg1rl · 28/12/2015 21:24

Right, back to swigging prosecco and ogling Jamie's thighs; it's a hard life...Grin

Onlygirljen · 28/12/2015 22:09

Also swigging prosecco here pix, with another week off work - this is the life! Hope you and nickel had fun.

DS is finally holding down his stomach contents today touches wood, hopefully the rest of us have escaped the germs!

Ilovelblue · 28/12/2015 22:13

pixie and Nickel - glad you had a good meet up. Is it me with Richtea and ice next or is there somebody else in between?

The wind has got up here again but is dry. Wednesday is supposed to be very wet again.

I went for a walk this afternoon to blow away the cobwebs and stuck to the roads but about 2/3 the way round, I could see the road was flooded and judging by the way the cars were going so slowly, I think it was quite deep. The pavement was totally under water but the verge the other side seemed better so I crossed over and then sank down into the mud at one point - started to panic because as well as that, the water was at least a foot deep and I had no choice but to wade through it! Was absolutely wet through and had to have a shower as soon as I got home.

orphan was it you who had used a marmalade and mustard glaze on your ham? I thought it sounded rather good so used it on some chicken tonight. Needs a bit of tweaking (I should have cooked the chicken for longer before pouring on the glaze I think) but would definitely do it again.

pixieg1rl · 28/12/2015 23:30

Glad to hear DS is on the mend Jen, and that your prosecco arm is getting a workout at last.

I'm meeting up with Kelly tomorrow ice and then my little flurry of sociability will be over. I'm doing well for a miserable old hermit.

KellyHb · 29/12/2015 04:04

A bit of an early Morning all!

I was asleep but MIL woke us up to say DD was coughing and MIL's off to sleep in another bed. All DD needed was some water! So here's me lying wide awake now sleeping next to DD who's now fast asleep! Grrrr!

Had a lovely day yesterday at the birthday party although the boys were a complete handful and kept trying to grab various Christmas ornaments they had out and other things so me and DH couldn't really relax although I still managed a couple of glasses of Prosecco Grin

We went back last night after leaving kids with MIL and had a much better time. Had more Prosecco. Plus some fireworks were bought by our friends which I've always loved watching plus all their neighbours came out and enjoyed that too while the kids had sparklers. Great fun! Smile

I discovered a fellow OG fan last night in our friends brothers girlfriend! She's loves OG and loved it when I was showing her my CJ and BA pics. We talked about S2 and no LT but she said she was sure she read somewhere that they were going to try and get LT back for a couple of scenes!!! I'm not going to get my hopes up about this but I allowed myself a smile. In her opinion, she said if there was a S3, she thinks they would try to get LT back and she might want to come back.

Glad too Jen that DS sounds like he's getting better. And I MUST congratulate you on a truly fab one shot!!! I read it is as soon as I got in bed and cried towards the end. Its so beautiful and heart-breaking. Wonderful story. I wonder if you would think of doing one more chapter?

Yes pix. Excited for tomorrow's meet up.Grin

Right ff to try and get some sleep. Added Grrrr!

icemistOBE · 29/12/2015 07:47

Morning, back to work today. I was going to say it's only a short week but it's my usual 3 day week so short for those who normally work full time.

TG caused a flurry of excitement last evening by accidentally tweeting a photo of a hotel in SA, deleted it quickly and said it was meant for whatsapp to a friend.... A few tweeters caught it

Looking forward to our meet up. Let me know times and places

Marauding child and inability to relax is our default position at parties Kelly. My main memory of a our friends wedding was flushing little kids out of the flowerbeds where they were throwing rocks and mud at each other.

Ilovelblue · 29/12/2015 10:08

ice will PM you later. I have a rough idea where Richtea's hotel is but you probably know the city centre better than I do.

Off to see a friend's new house later. They're having a lot of work done on it so not moving in yet. I decided on a cake as a 'sort of' housewarming present. I'll do a proper present when they finally move.

Ilovelblue · 29/12/2015 10:11

ice does that mean TG is in SA already?

KellyHb · 29/12/2015 10:47

Ah what a mistake to make TG! Imagine if we all lived in SA, we'd all be like stalkers outside the hotel looking for a certain Captain. Smile

Hope your first day back at work goes quickly ice.

Onlygirljen · 29/12/2015 11:14

Thanks kelly Smile. I'm not planning to do anything else with it tbh - I really need to try and finish the two I have on the go before I think about doing anything else! I found it pretty exhausting to write, glad you enjoyed.

Lots of meet ups going on, have fun everybody! I remember the first time I met whaj in real life it was completely surreal being able to talk out loud about all things OG after just writing it down for so long!
