Not just you!

Nickel45 · 22/12/2015 19:33

Definitely not just you!

MaddieMoo82 · 22/12/2015 19:40

Same! Is there some sort of centre you can drop them off at and then pick them up after Xmas??

Richtea19 · 22/12/2015 19:56

I braved Sainsburys this morning for booze but back again tomorrow for food!! DH has a thing about the bloody sell dates and have to shop at last possible moment... Convenient he's not around to do it!bthen turkey collection Xmas eve!

Sitting in pizza express with glass number two of prosecco.. Maybe a snooze in the cinema!

Nickel45 · 22/12/2015 19:59

What you off to see rich? Have a good time.
I've finally just marzipaned my Christmas cake. No idea what to do with it now, my mum says I have a make royal icing?!! Thinking ready roll might be a good option!!!!!

KellyHb · 22/12/2015 20:01

Off to John Lewis tomorrow afternoon as was able to do click and collect in the end for the parents present I wanted. Woohoo. Smile But before then food shopping. Dreading that. Its gonna be manic. Plus I'm wanting something most people there will be wanting-mint sauce. It'll be sold out most likely.

I do like hibernating over Xmas too.

pixieg1rl · 22/12/2015 20:08

Definitely not just you Jen. I'd be fucking fuming at him if the bugger was here. Maybe that's why he's in Swansea Hmm

I'm doing sugar paste nickel (from a packet, up yours Mary Berry). My mum used to do Royal icing in swirly peaks, looked like and had the texture of artex. Got to get marzipan tomorrow.

Wimped out of having a pudding unless I can find a dairy free one tomorrow, I'm just going to do fruit and posh Italian biscuits and desert wine for family meal on Boxing Day. I've bought a shed load of cheese that I'm not sharing with anyone.

MaddieMoo82 · 22/12/2015 20:09

Bugger I can't food shop till Xmas eve!! Will there be anything left??

Richtea19 · 22/12/2015 20:12

nickel don't do royal icing! Buy the ready roll fondant from sains bugs !!! So easy.

Seeing Star Wars!!!!!!just got myself a large glass of New Zealand SB!!! Happy me!!!!

icemistOBE · 22/12/2015 20:29

I could quite easily drop DH off the side of a cliff! Yet again he's not taken boys to get me a present. I've bought my own Sad

Sounds familiar ice! My DD just told me tonight that DH hasn't got me anything (luckily I bought myself a bracelet and some books for him to give me!!). I told her to take him shopping tomorrow to get chocolate for me (that'll serve him right, two kids to take shopping, ha!)

What's sugar paste pix? (I know, totes ignorant!!) - I need to go back to sains for some sort of icing, whatever it may be. I did look at that squirty chocolate stuff for cupcakes today, but wasn't sure it would work on a fruit cake?!

pixieg1rl · 22/12/2015 21:39

This stuff nickel. Brush a little water over your marzipan first to make the layers stick together.

MrP has bought me something (slippers- whoop whoop). It took months of telling him to buy the same pair I have again before he actually did. I did have to buy my present from DS for myself, so I got something nice Grin

My Mum says she's got 3 Christmas cakes to ice bless her. One for her, me and my brother. She says she wants to make stuffing too. I'll go round tomorrow and help her. Seems she's getting into Xmas spirit this year. Smile

This story might make you ladies feel better about your OHs. Someone I used to know's OH didnt think about sending her a card at Xmas/birthdays etc so one year, she forced him to go to the shop to buy her one. He did but the got the shop keeper to write the card out for him!! Shock

Nickel45 · 22/12/2015 21:50

Oh kel that made me laugh out loud!!!

Thank you pix, I'll be off to get some in the morning :)

MaddieMoo82 · 22/12/2015 21:52

kelly oh dear Grin

Ilovelblue · 22/12/2015 22:00

Kelly that's brilliant. Wow. Listening to you lot, I am so glad I kicked my ex into touch. He was crap at presents too. His mother was almost as bad and always ungrateful for stuff I gave her. Evil old bat.

Been to see my friend with the financial problems. The bank have sorted her out, ie, the loan they've arranged is going onto her mortgage and she has paid off the cards and cut them all up. I hope to goodness she manages to hold her job until normal retirement otherwise she will be totally stuffed - didn't like to mention that.

I have a nice recipe for mince pies with Hungarian pastry if anyone is interested......

Will read Greenstuff's latest as a treat when I get to bed.

Last day at work tomorrow. Hurray!

KellyHb · 22/12/2015 22:01

I know, I couldn't believe that she told me.

I really wanted to watch the Dads Army story that's on now but I must wash my hair. Off out early to Asda in the morning.

Nickel45 · 22/12/2015 22:03

What's Hungarian pastry ilove? I need to make some mince pies too ... I know, way behind!! Is it easy?

Glad your friend is getting sorted xx

Nickel45 · 22/12/2015 22:04

Love that this thread is about more than CJ (obviously CJ and OG at the heart of it, but you know what I mean)!! You lot are all brilliant, so pleased to have met you all on here (and, no, I've not been drinking ... yet!) Xmas Grin

Ilovelblue · 22/12/2015 22:10

Hungarian pastry:

5 oz SR flour
4 oz butter

Rub them together. I find it best to have the butter straight out of the fridge, grate it then rub into the flour till it's like breadcrumbs.

Bind together with an egg yolk, a tablespoon of cream (single or double, doesn't make any difference really) and a splash of alcohol - brandy, sherry, rum etc.

Once you've kneaded it into a ball, leave it to rest in the fridge for at least an hour or more as it will be very soft and needs to harden up a bit before you roll it out.

Cook at 180 C for 10 mins or so.

It's a bit messy to do the first couple of times but the pastry almost literally melts in your mouth.

icemistOBE · 22/12/2015 22:12

If love to try Hungarian pastry! I'm intrigued- mum makes dozens of mince pies for people for Christmas.... I buy ours from asda.

Tell you what ice, if I have any mincemeat left by New Year, I will bring one or two with me when we meet up with Richtea*. No promises - depends what's left in the house by then!

Nickel45 · 22/12/2015 22:21

That sounds fab, I'm going to give it a go :) Thank you x

Ilovelblue · 22/12/2015 22:23

The recipe was given to me years ago by an Austrian lady - no idea why it's called Hungarian, but it's definitely the best pastry I've ever made for mince pies. Never used it for anything else though.

MaddieMoo82 · 22/12/2015 22:38

Wow ilove that sounds lovely. Might save the recipe to use in the new year as will never get time now. Glad your friend has got sorted too.
