The pastry is very rich - not to be thought about too much if anyone is on a diet!!

Nickel45 · 22/12/2015 22:47

I try very hard not to think too much about a diet!
(although I really ought to! next year ....!!!!)

Rhubarb01 · 22/12/2015 22:57

Evening ladies. I'm feeling envious of all these preparations. I've still got at least one full day at work - praying it won't extend into Christmas Eve - half the presents to wrap as well as being minus one or two, no food bought and to cap it all had a car park shunt this evening and now have a dent in my car door - not my fault and hopefully we can keep the insurance out of it. It didn't look too bad but it was dark, I will have to see if it looks alright in daylight.

As for food shopping I think it's going to be a 5.30 am shop on Christmas Eve. I've been before at that time and it's usually fine and always better to go early morning as they've restocked overnight. I also forgot that I've still got to make a chocolate log and mince pies on Christmas Eve as well as clean the house. (I also can't hear out of my right ear tonight - I hate that!) The only saving grace in all this is that I haven't got anyone coming to visit me this Christmas so I only have to feed us - thank goodness. I'll sort something for Christmas lunch and if we run out of anything else we'll just have to go to the shops on Boxing Day. I'm trying to channel my inner pixie now and tell myself not to be arsed with it all and pour myself a drink! Yes it's working! I'll be arsed about it tomorrow.

MaddieMoo82 · 22/12/2015 23:01

Back to work end of Feb someone please remind me sometime in Jan I need to crash diet to fit back in my pre-baby work trousers might be easier to buy new ones!!

Ilovelblue · 22/12/2015 23:05

Rhubarb blame the media for putting the pressure on us to make Christmas that perfect magazine photo shoot looking day. It's just one day and yes, push comes to shove, you can go food shopping for more supplies on Boxing Day if need be.

Rhubarb01 · 22/12/2015 23:16

You're right Ilove it's definitely the media that whip us up into a frenzy for weeks and weeks before the main event. The truth is that I get bored of it all by the 27th and it all seems to go flat then. I actually think I like the last week before Christmas more than the week after.

pixieg1rl · 22/12/2015 23:24

Ahh, I'm flattered to be an inspiration rhu, even if it's only one soused in booze Wine. Fingers crossed you can get work out of the way tomorrow.

apsara03 · 22/12/2015 23:24

Sorry I don't post that often. RL, we'll work too busy. Do usually try to catch up each evening and read about all your exploits -smile-
It's glad to know no one else is ready yet. I seem even more disorganised this year! And just had message to say I've mixed up labels on parcels and sent present and card to wrong person. Nuts forehead with hand
Hungarian pastry sound interesting - need to make some more mince pies. My mum makes the mince meat and I do the pastry and bake them. Fair division of labour. Christmas Cake is marzipaned but not iced. A job for tomorrow before taking DS2 to see star wars. Must confess but excited myself. I do use royal icing but only 1 egg white then water so it doesn't get too hard. I don't really like the taste of fondant. I love having all the home made stuff but tough when you're working. Recommend Lidl's mini stollen though
The supermarkets are ridiculous. Definitely best time at night or first thing

Rhubarb01 · 22/12/2015 23:41

Random Christmas thought - I like the BBC Christmas sprout!

Richtea19 · 23/12/2015 07:17

Hungarian pastry sounds interesting, but i have to confess I bought two boxes of mince pies from Betty's while in York. Bit tricky getting them not to be squashed but they have survived. There used to be time when I made mincemeat for then school Christmas bazaar but since the boys started secondary school and now me at work- no chance!

star wars was actually better than I thought. Although DS got fed up with me asking questions about whose who!

MaddieMoo82 · 23/12/2015 08:40

Morning all. Braving m and s in a mo to pick up my bird then have family over for nibbles and gift exchange. Is it too early to serve mulled cider at 11am? I'm going on the rule that it's nearly Xmas therefore you can drink at anytime of day!!
DP has some sort of man flu but can't cope with him moaning and getting in the way so packed him off to work Grin

icemistOBE · 23/12/2015 10:18

Forgot to get crackers and lunch for today and tomorrow Confused so need to go out again!
Need to get the booze too but I can go tonight and improvise for lunch today

I have visions of you swigging toilet duck and cough syrup like Father Jack, ice

Nickel45 · 23/12/2015 11:02

Morning all - just enjoying the peace and quiet of being in an office Brew!! Sorry not really!!

Even popped into sains on the way in and bought my icing pix - a late night calls I think. Mind I've no idea what to do when I have put the icing on!! rich your cakes looked awesome on FB :) Think I might get the littlies to make icing statues of snowmen or something to put on - should keep them quite for a few hours in my dreams minutes.

pixieg1rl · 23/12/2015 11:31

Supermarket done in under an hour. DS at holiday camp for another hour so I've got coffee and a cake and all this time to myself.

KellyHb · 23/12/2015 11:41

Just come in from Asda and it was ridiculously busy! I got there at 9 and it was packed then. I left the others at home as they would take ages to get ready and I thought I would be quicker just me going.

Did my shop okay and had to get some extra presents for friends of ours but seem to come out the shop unscathed.

DH getting a haircut now and then we're nipping into town to collect something then hopefully I may even get a sit down later and a drink! Shock

KellyHb · 23/12/2015 12:13

Twins are channelling their inner BA and walking round with baseball caps on backwards. Smile

Richtea19 · 23/12/2015 12:16

I did sainsbugs this morning and it was bonkers. No Smoked salmon, forgot all sorts of things which will mean more stress tomorrow when picking up bird from waitrose!

Never too early for mulled anything. I have the quality street out! I've got some girls coming for lunch today so I'm gagging to get the wine out!!! Might just start before their arrival.

nickel if you bought the sains sugar paste/fondant it's so easy to use the left over bits to make decorations. This kids used to make snow men or use a star cutter? Which makes it look pretty. All else fails get some fresh holly?

Richtea19 · 23/12/2015 12:17

kelly ahhhhhhh you reminded me, haircuts! Both boys need theirs cut. Big one is working at the kennels all day and little one gone Christmas shopping (I should be afraid!). Maybe DH could take them tomorrow!!!!

KellyHb · 23/12/2015 12:50

I'm not sure what's up with my boys today but now they're giving each other piggybacks running along the floor and theyre only 3!!!!!

icemistOBE · 23/12/2015 13:27

Lol pixie

Been to asda I'd forgotten (don't ask how) that tomorrow is Christmas Eve! Wasn't too bad, but still forgotten to get mixed herbs to make my stuffing!

Wine, beer and fruit cider all purchased. Crackers got too and snacks that I don't usually bother with.

Glad Asda shop was successful for you ice.

Me and DH are sitting knackered on the settee. Took kids into town to pick up a couple of things. I'd never taken the boys on the metro before as it would be too much just me, but they loved looking at the River Tyne and various things going past until they decided to comment on a man's hair who got on with a mohican haircut. Boys saying loudly 'look at his hair all sticking up'!! Luckily he ignored it. Blush

We were given money from his family so I bought a couple of DVDs for myself. I bought Outlander after ages of wanting it and Suite Franchiose (probs not how you spell it!). Matthias looked pretty fine on the cover and I like war stories. I can't remember who saw it on here or if they said it was good Hmm

MaddieMoo82 · 23/12/2015 17:53

Glad I've done the turkey pickup! M&S as predicted was pretty awful but the staff were all lovely and felt quite sorry for them having been with a lot of angry people. Just tesco tomorrow for final few bits Confused

M&S was made all the more stressful by bumping into MrMads ex! Of all the places...?! They split along time ago and it was very civil but I still find it all a bit awkward especially when she is sugar syrupy nice! Couldn't get out of there fast enough and then couldn't get out anyway as the queues were so bloody big.... Cue loads of awkward conversation Confused

Amazing invincible update from whajeb, so fab!!! Smile

Nickel45 · 23/12/2015 18:48

Think this should be an all year round work out :)
