Thanks ilove yeah there was a possibility of that happening last night but he settled so hopefully tonight is the same Flowers

Ilovelblue · 14/12/2015 21:13

Nickel that's an awful lot of Maltesers!

Talking of cakes and the like, when my friend came from Manchester yesterday, we were having lunch out but I had made some scones as something to put her on before she went home. I'm not bad at baking and although I use my Mum's prizewinning scone recipe, they never quite turn out like hers used to do but they're ok and perfectly edible. I made the tea and did the scones with jam and cream. She never comments on food (probably because she never cooks at home) so I never know whether she likes it/if I have hit on the right thing so when I asked her, she said "Yes, they're ok, good job there's cream though!" Was slightly offended, truth be told. Am I being uncharitable? I've never once sampled anything she's made.

pixieg1rl · 14/12/2015 21:17

We've managed to escape Xmas at MIL for this and last year. My parents aren't very good a coping with Xmas, so we haven't had Xmas day with them for about a decade.

On the recommendation of people here I'm going to try Outlander, I see Rick Rankin has been cast for series 2

Ilovelblue · 14/12/2015 21:18

Oooh, I do like Richard Rankin.

Richtea19 · 14/12/2015 21:30

mads wet flannel on a hot radiator or a steamy hot bath (not with little one in!) worked for us. DS had croup which turned to pneumonia. Good luck for a better night.

Love the look of the malteaser cake nickel! It looks so festive.

woof good to have you back, I guessed you were "holed" up with AT after his breakupWink

pixieg1rl · 14/12/2015 21:31

I'd be very appreciative of anything cooked for me ilove. I'm not much good at scones or pastry, I'm too heavy handed.

Yum to the malteaser cake, although I'd be more than happy with just the malteasers to be honest.

My Xmas cards have descended into chaos, I'm sending them to random people I've met online over the last 5 years. Anyone wanting a Xmas card, send me your address.

KellyHb · 14/12/2015 22:23

Evening all.

Its this time of year that I feel like a terrible Mum re: cooking as I've relied on my own Mum to supply the turkey, homemade stuffing etc on Xmas Day and I have no imagination when it comes to hams or other meats and other savoury/sweet dishes etc. But this year my Mum isn't into the Xmas dinner so I'm wondering how/when best time to get a Turkey etc as we have no freezer space to buy one in advance and Tesco my parents said aren't taking any meat orders as people weren't collecting them previous years. Confused

Instead of buying lovely Xmas cakes/puds, I might just get DH and kids to have some Cadburys Heroes or something.

Anyway just been to ASDA and bought Xmas alcohol and sweets, i have lots of experience in that area also Xmas presents for DD and twin's teachers which I'll give Friday on last day of term.

I wanted to get into Outlander pix also lots of QS scenes too apparently. I like Tobias Menzies. I think he was in a previous series.

mads hope baby sleeps better tonight. Flowers

Onlygirljen · 14/12/2015 22:28

Thanks ilove for the recipe, will check it out.

pix I ordered outlander from Amazon a couple of days ago too, hoping to watch some over the Christmas hols Smile

Nickel45 · 14/12/2015 22:52

kel I think Sainsbury and Waitrose are taking orders, and I ordered mine from Cook, if you have one near you, then u can just pick it up when you need to defrost (if it's frozen) or on Christmas Eve. Well done you for doing it. I'm cooking Christmas dinner for only the second time (we usually go to my mums if I can arrange it!) and I'm keeping it as simple as possible. The kids won't eat the veg and no one but me likes Christmas pud (hence the Maltesers cake idea, or maybe just a pile of Maltesers!) so simple as I can do.

pixieg1rl · 14/12/2015 22:57

I can't even imagine cooking a Christmas dinner. So much bloody work, and my kitchen is tiny.

Ilovelblue · 14/12/2015 22:58

Kelly my Tesco is definitely doing turkey orders. I saw the sign only on Friday.

Ilovelblue · 14/12/2015 23:02

I'm totally wimping out of Christmas dinner and going to friends for the afternoon. She has a brand new kitchen so is quite keen to show it off. My Mum always used to say "it's only another day" and she was right. There does seem to be an awful lot of pressure to get it absolutely right. I think the media has a lot to answer for where it all seems perfect.

I am entertaining on Boxing Day though but if they don't like what I've done, tough sh*t!!

KellyHb · 14/12/2015 23:26

Thanks ladies. I'll check it out. Well tbh in our house it'll be DH doing the cooking of any dinner. I'll have the slight stress of wanting the dinner to be nice. I'll take more of the role of topping up peoples glasses in the living room. Its complete role reversal in our house. Hmm

kuiakaituhi · 14/12/2015 23:41

Outlander will make your toes curl, ladies, to say the least. We had it last year on a Pay to Watch channel called Lightbox, costs $13.00 month for all sorts of good programmes which you can watch over and over.
All the talk of Christmas ham makes me feel guilty about not getting mine ordered. Here in NZ we tend to have it with salads and often with new home grown baby potatoes. Am just about to dig my first lot. Lots of people do the big hot dinner, English style, which is not my bag at all. Such food tends to settle on my hips if I just look at it!

orphan · 15/12/2015 07:32

woof extra heavy duty duct tape is on its way to you. Rupe protested slightly but I managed to convince him that he can do without now it's become a bit of a security blanket for him. Have you been keeping up with Homeland? He drew on memories of how he felt after a strenuous session with me, to play recent scenes.

I love ham at Christmas. In the past I've used another Nigella recipe with ginger beer and clementines I think. Last year I just did one I googled.

Hope all well maddie.

Richtea19 · 15/12/2015 07:43

I hope you had a better night mads.

We are going to my sisters for Christmas day this year, which is great. It will be the first time since my mum passed away, 7 years that I've had lunch cooked for me. My sister and I took it in turns to have dad and the other year I had MIL. MIL sulking as no invite for Christmas Day. We have invited her for Boxing Day but she has snubbed us saying she would rather stay at home on her own! As if!!!! Of course now DH is running and clucking all around her pleading her to come, so now she is and of course she feels needed!!!! I'm just cheesed off with the whole thing, I'm still angry with her since FIL funeral and the money/Will situation. Happy Holidays!!!!!

Last day at work for over a week, yippee!

Ilovelblue · 15/12/2015 08:32

Morning. The two people who sat either side of me at our Christmas lunch yesterday were refreshing in that they thought Christmas was overrated. If I thought I could be bah humbug, they took it to a whole new level!

How are things today Maddie?

MaddieMoo82 · 15/12/2015 08:51

Ah thanks for all for asking. 4-5 wake ups with dodgy coughing and breathing but managed to settle him each time. He has a cough similar to my late pipe smoking grandad. Match sticks and coffee required again and crossing fingers he shakes this off soon.

Urgh I hate the Xmas politics of where to go for dinner especially since we have had DS which why Xmas day we are doing ourselves so we don't have to pick between our families.

Am weirdly addicted to watching space launch coverage this morning Hmm.....

Have a lovely last day rich not long now till York either Smile

KellyHb · 15/12/2015 09:25

Morning all.

Pleased you got the baby settled okay after wake-ups mads.

My DD has a real hacking cough today and I think she'll probably get sent home. I wouldve kept her off but I'm at the dentists this morning. I'm hoping she'll be better tomorrow as its her class Xmas party.

Hope your last day at work goes quickly rich and a lovely York trip coming up to boot too. Exciting!

KellyHb · 15/12/2015 10:57

Ah just read the sad news that Michelle Dockery's (Lady Mary in Downton) fiancee has died of cancer. He was only 34. Sad

icemistOBE · 15/12/2015 15:33

Afternoon.

School nativity for us this morning. Totally blubbed when they sang Away In A Manger

Only having turkey crown on Christmas Day, so I got mine from Iceland today. Had one from there last year and it was gorgeous. Just need to get trimmings and a gammon joint.

Hope the littlies are feeling better mads and kelly

I'm with kelly..DH does all cooking, baking and present wrapping. Bangers and mash is our Boxing Day meal, not even sure how that started. We have a few cards up at the mo but that's it so far, tree at the weekend I think. DH is about to start turning the house upside looking various bits of green uniform, webbing etc....... breathing deeply and eating biscuits to keep me calm

moojangles · 15/12/2015 19:33

FFS two more pairs of boots have just appeared!!!!!!

Onlygirljen · 15/12/2015 20:13

Where do I find me one of these men who cook and tidy and wrap presents?? Mine has genuinely never wrapped a single present in his life (if I don't do it his mum does), can't iron (if I don't do it his mum does) cook (if I'm not there he pays his mum a visit for a meal) and only cleans when I have a meltdown about the state of the house and is forced to. I'm sensing a theme here - I really need to ensure my boys become self sufficient unlike their father.

Just as well he's got a really nice arse to make up for his lack of domestic skills. Confused

moojangles · 15/12/2015 20:30

I am genuinely crap at said tasks, so DH driven by hunger/risk of some sort of food poisoning and the shame of presents that look like the dog wrapped them.
