Yet another crime drama heading to our screens. I'm watching heaps of shows like this at the moment. Anyone else planning to watch?

I won't be watching live but will try to get on catch up ASAP. Looks intriguing.

Blimey sw28 we could have done with you on the Broadchurch theads Grin

The family must be involved. It can't be a coincidence that Haider applied for a job at Brannigan's. It must have been part of whatever he and Stevie were investigating.

Brannigan also mentioned Haider's car, how his engineer (?) had said it was a wreck. From the CCTV we saw Haider in the blue mondeo, it was his, so the family could have stolen it, used it for the murder and to frame him.

sadwidow28 · 05/11/2015 10:26

Oooh, I am liking the idea that Haider applied for a job with Brannigan in order to get on the inside of the company as part of Stevie's investigation.

The blue Mondeo belonged to Haider but after Stevie's murder it was dumped outside a scrap yard and Bruno stole it (to help Riley's pregnant girlfriend) and Riley stole it off Bruno. That's why everyone thought at first that Riley had killed Stevie.

quirkychick · 05/11/2015 11:21

Yy, I think Marcus is very dodgy. He certainly was very threatening to Chrissie and River. Why? Surely he would want Stevie's real killer found rather than just pushing for a conviction regardless. Does he just want to be seen to wrap up the case quickly or has he got another agenda? And what about Rosa, the psychiatrist, she seems to have a relationship with Marcus, but hasn't bowed under pressure to make River fail his psych assessment?

Just a thought, River is written by Abi Morgan, who wrote The Hour. Didn't that have a spy plot which involved their boss being undercover/double agent?

Stevie's family certainly seem enmeshed in the Haider plot, Weight Watchers, Cristal Kebabs, Michael Brannigan...

Fuzzpig

I followed your suggestion about London Spy and I am ready to give it a go next Monday.

I have set up a thread for us all here.

Apparently, it has a slow start ..... but so had River in episode 1 because the characters and relationships are introduced, and look how invested we all are now.

sadwidow28 · 05/11/2015 15:33

I was reading through some of our clues and (as I am not good at understanding London) I made a map of Lincolns Inn (Tom Read's chambers) to Bethnal Green Road (Cristal Kebabs)

It is only 3 miles .......

Then we know that River turned up CCTV of Haidar 2 days before Stevie's death at Isle of Dogs and that's 4 miles from Bethnal Green Road.

Now, thread detectives, do we know where Brannigan Cars are located? It is No 25 ...... but where?

I wasn't sure about the first episode but loved the second. I'm in. But I really love Stellan Skarsgard so I would probs watch just for him alone.

Inkanta · 10/11/2015 10:19

I don't think it was Haidler. Why was he stabbed? Why have they got River still on the case when he is not well mentally? Why did the psychiatrist deem him fit when he is not?

What did Stevie know?

I think it's a conspiracy.

I think it may involve the judge, chief of police and River's boss and maybe the psychiatrist??

quirkychick · 10/11/2015 16:15

Ooh, Inkanta interesting. The police chief and the judge are not looking good. Is it the last one tonight? Stellan Skarsgard is excellent, really compelling.

Fissues · 10/11/2015 20:52

9 minutes til episode 5!

quirkychick · 10/11/2015 21:06

I think the judge is lying. ..

ALickAndAPromise · 10/11/2015 21:47

Is River's flat super stylish Scando chic? Or tatty ex-council, not been updated since the 70s? I can't tell Confused

timelytess · 10/11/2015 21:50

Dear me.
So far, I've been really impressed by the actor who plays River.
Tonight, I'm also really impressed by the writing.

Sweetsweetjane · 10/11/2015 21:50

Shit acting from the wife just then in the hospital.

ALickAndAPromise · 10/11/2015 21:53

The wife was a total cliche.

quirkychick · 10/11/2015 21:56

The seventies certainly had a fair amount of scandi chic! Love that all the characters are so complex.

Inkanta I don't think you are far wrong, there's a big cover up going on.

NoahVale · 10/11/2015 23:06

OOH anyone else notice the playing of Sunny.
ha,
just like in Unforgotten, when our lady detective sings it to her partner, named Sunny Grin

NoahVale · 10/11/2015 23:10

and where was Ira's baby when the wife was ranting at River at the hospital? well

NoahVale · 10/11/2015 23:15

and poor Ira, with his black eye, he played the part of a one eyed man in Utopia, or in fact had both his eyes removed I think, in Utopia

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 11/11/2015 18:34

I thought the part by Ira's wife was lovely. I felt she acted it well and it was really sweet too. Even her hand was shaking. I think. And I loved the way It's was looking at her as she was doing her little speech. And Rivers look too.

Clawdy · 12/11/2015 12:11

It's interesting to watch a drama with so many believable and likable characters. River, Stevie, Ira.....and I'm warming to River's female boss and the psychiatrist now. Looking forward to next week's.

Fiderer · 13/11/2015 12:44

I liked the scene with Ira and his wife at the hospital. That she'd be all worried and then blurt out all the things she'd want to say to River but wouldn't ordinarily have dared to.

Plus I quite soppily liked that she was so protective of Ira, not just railing about the long hours and bringing work home, but making it about Ira working so hard for River and being angry that it seems one-sided.

Anyone else notice that when they went to locker no 19 at the car wash, the car being washed was from Brannigan's Cars?

The family must be involved, perhaps passing asylum seekers who apply to work for them, onto the solicitor & the crooked judge.

keepmoving · 13/11/2015 19:01

Can I join in please? I am obsessed by River... I've watched the last episode twice to make sure I don't miss anything. I thought the judge was involved and the family too, I noticed Brannighan's Cars at the car wash and I agree with Fiderer. This series has been one my favourite programmes in a long time.

gonegrey56 · 13/11/2015 19:05

I am joining in too . Marcus is definitely involved - he was trying to overhear River's conversation with Chrissie.
What else has the Judge been authorising in return for payment ? It can't just be visa applications .

fuzzpig · 16/11/2015 20:37

I finally watched episode 5. Poor Chrissie :( :(

I'm going to be bereft when this series ends. I've loved it.

Another new series came up as a link at the end on iplayer - the coroner - anyone watching that?

GruntledOne · 16/11/2015 20:58

I like Ira. However, in his shoes I must say I would categorically refuse to get into any car driven by River. It must be terrifying wondering when he's going to see one of his manifestations in the middle of the road and swerve to avoid it.
