Yet another crime drama heading to our screens. I'm watching heaps of shows like this at the moment. Anyone else planning to watch?

I won't be watching live but will try to get on catch up ASAP. Looks intriguing.

My brain is getting fried watching both and trying to keep track.

sadwidow well done for remembering about the cctv, it proved Riley was where he said, too far away.

It really does look like a cover up. Is maybe the police chief (can't remember name) in on undercover as he seemed desperate to get rid of River, who is investigating Stevie's murder relentlessly? Maybe River deep down suspects this as he told Ira he wanted to follow the leads from her secret phone first before letting their superiors know.

quirkychick · 30/10/2015 16:03

Sorry, that was not a very clear post, my youngest was climbing the coffee table.

sadwidow28 · 30/10/2015 17:32

quirkychick I followed what you were saying! (We must be on the same wave-length) Grin There is no love lost between River and Marcus McDonald (I think he is a Deputy Assistant Commissioner going by his lapel insignia. [screenshot of Marcus McDonald in Uniform for comparison].

(I am not good at recognising the insignia's of higher police ranks as I only had to polish 'pips' on my late-DH's uniform Grin so I had to look it up.)

We know he 'leads' Chrissy Read's Team and she is a Detective Chief Inspector (3 "pips") and therefore the minimum rank for a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) in the detective ranks. After that comes Superintendent and then Chief Superintendent but the lapel insignia doesn't match with those ranks ..... so I am going for Deputy Assistant Commissioner. Now a Dept AC runs his own divisions within the police service. S/he manages a budget and can assign cases without going through line manager channels (and only answers to the Chief Constable for some covert cases). Watch the interaction between MacDonald and Chrissie Read - he is trying to undermine her at every turn.

More importantly, he wanted River to be removed from police service on the strength of a negative psychiatry report. I bet he thought he had that one stitched up as he is 'dating' Rosa Fallows (the psychiatrist). River spotted them together in the police canteen in episode 1 and then Rosa and McDonald went to The Globe Theatre on a 'date' in episode 3.

So fuzzpig's "RIVER" detectives, I need you to keep thinking outside the box between tomorrow and next Thursday. Pose lots of theories and ideas - then we can all see if they stack up. I will sooooooo look forward to getting my wi-fi connection back if I have millions lots of posts to read and ponder!

However, I am beginning to think that Marcus McDonald is, himself, a very shady character.

I'm not very good at coming up with theories! Especially for this show. I'm so caught up in the emotion of it all that the crime is, to me, secondary to the drama! But I do enjoy and admire everyone else's detective work. Blush

I also appreciate the drama fuzzpig - but I am so focused on Bridie (Stevie's Mammy). She is so used to covering for her wayward sons, she even dealt with the apparent 'family betrayal' when Stevie joined the police service.

That split her 3 children apart.

But now she is turning to River to help to solve the crime. At the end of episode 3, she turned up at his flat with a bag of men's toiletries found in Stevie's bathroom. Bridie thought that they belonged to River, but now realises they belong to someone else who stayed over at Stevie's flat.

Is it the black man?

Episode 3

( Banging on door )
( Bell rings and banging stops )
( Bell rings )
(River looks through a chink in his door - then opens it when he sees it is Bridie)

River: Bridie?
Bridie: [holding a pink and white carrier bag] I found them at her flat and thought they were yours.
Now I realise you'd never have had the balls.
So, I'm wondering... I'm wondering....
Maybe they belong to who did this. [hands over carrier bag to River - image 1]
Do your job.
Stop looking at us and catch who did this.

River closes the door and takes out a man's razor from the carrier bag .....and even I can see the hairs on it. [image 2]

River ..... get your hands off that bag of men's toiletries! We need them for forensics and you are contaminating them!!!

Ah, but Bridie may have already contaminated them!

It is so easy to get caught up in River's grief, it kind of puts us in his place seeing the manifests rat her than reality. He can't quite see what's happening because he's so tied up in his loss, yet desperate to find who did it. He can't seem to remember what they talked about in the Chinese. Presumably Stevie suggested it because she needed to talk to him and give him the 10k for Frankie.

Yy sadwidow Marcus Mcdonald is a very unpleasant manager. He appears to have very shady motives.

quirkychick · 03/11/2015 08:48

Just marking my place for later, how many more episodes, does anyone know?

Fissues · 03/11/2015 21:00

3 more including tonight's I think. Looking forward to this!

sadwidow28 · 03/11/2015 21:02

I am here. I discovered my phone is on the internet! I have the TV on for River

sadwidow28 · 03/11/2015 21:10

PAYG number is traced to Lincoln's Inn

Fissues · 03/11/2015 21:15

McDonald = assistant commissioner? That's what I thought I saw when he was on the appeal

sadwidow28 · 03/11/2015 21:15

So Hayden shot Stevie?

Fissues · 03/11/2015 21:26

Could it be? Feels like there should be a bigger twist but perhaps that's too cliched.

I'm getting uneasy vibes from Frankie, but it doesn't seem plausible.

quirkychick · 03/11/2015 21:28

The plot thickens... what is Haden's motive? I like the way River talks to witnesses etc. very intuitive.

sadwidow28 · 03/11/2015 21:36

Oh please! No grief sex - tacky Chrissie!

sadwidow28 · 03/11/2015 21:37

I think the family are back in the frame

quirkychick · 03/11/2015 21:41

River is heartbreaking in his grief.

quirkychick · 03/11/2015 21:48

Trafficking?

sadwidow28 · 03/11/2015 21:57

Chrissie has just mentioned Lincoln's Inn.

quirkychick · 03/11/2015 21:57

Oh dear the number in Lincoln's Inn.

emotionsecho · 03/11/2015 23:36

I still think the DAC is somehow involved, I wonder if Stevie shared her suspicions with Chrissie's husband?

What the connection is with Hayda I don't know, trafficking of some sort I guess and I do think the Kebab shop is a cover for something.

Chrissie's husband has got something to hide though, he is behaving oddly and more than just a mid-life crisis, wonder who the call was from that he cut off when he was in the garden with River.

musicmaiden · 04/11/2015 00:04

He is having an affair, isn't he? Lots of significant looks around when the woman in the house, whoever she was, said goodbye while the three policemen were at the kitchen table.

BTW the subtitles had Stevie's friend's name as Haider.

Great episode. River is letting people in.

JulesJules · 04/11/2015 06:41

Husband having affair with the au pair?

What were he and Stevie up to?

Have just started watching this week - watched the first three episodes on catch up. Loving it. Stellan Skarsgard is absolutely brilliant.

Fiderer · 04/11/2015 07:30

The raid on the kebab shop was a bit much, wasn't it? Considering they only wanted to question the workers. I'd have thought River, Ira & a couple of burly uniformed officers and not 8 detectives. Maybe they wanted to scare them.

Husband & aupair might have been giving each other knowing looks about smoking weed.

MrsJayy · 04/11/2015 08:19

Oh was so good River has the touch of death his suspects always die except Jimmy
. Right here is what i think Stevies Mammy is involved in trafficking jimmy is her muscle

it was them who sent hayda to the taxi company. Stevie was investigating didnt say anything because it was her mammy.
The detectives and husband judge seem to be friends and judge husband (who is shagging the au pair) was helping Stevie they might have been having an affair he is the one she was in love with.
