I saw a massive poster for Sunday night's new season, just as the tube train arrived. I let my train home go so I could stare in detail at the characters' new looks. Who are the two blokes on the far left - have they been on before?

There is a This Is England characters catch-up documentary show on Channel4 tonight (Friday) after new Gogglebox, so prob 10pm.

I will be watching. I had forgotten what went on in the last series though.

Mrsjayy · 12/09/2015 15:28

Tiredemma · 12/09/2015 15:30

Mrsjayy · 12/09/2015 15:33

Lol was having flashback of her dad she didnt have pnd

Mrsjayy · 12/09/2015 15:36

Oh they are new sorry

LargeGoldAtrociousCunt · 12/09/2015 15:38

I have it set to record but I think maybe I will have to have a catch up of the last one to refresh my memory. Its only a 4 parter I'm sure the others were longer?

Mrsjayy · 12/09/2015 15:43

88 was no more than 4 im sure it was just a 2 parter, the original film is on tonight at 9 on film4.

Icouldbesogoodforyou · 12/09/2015 15:43

I want to watch but I had a huge falling out with Shane Meadows (not that he'd know or care!) after the graphic rape scene in '86.

I felt differently about the whole series after that but can't help being excited by the new previews. Not sure if I'll watch or not.

Mrsjayy · 12/09/2015 15:45

The rape scene was horrific it stayed with me for days

Icouldbesogoodforyou · 12/09/2015 16:09

Me too. It was probably the most disturbing scene I've ever seen on TV and I didn't think it needed to be shown like that.

I've seen numerous rape scenes on TV or in film but this one was the worst - maybe because of the 'real' style of Meadows film -making and it made me irrationally angry with him as a film - maker. I that scene tainted everything he'd done before or since.

Silly I know but that's how it made me feel.

Mrsjayy · 12/09/2015 16:24

That is a shame it has been tainted for you I do think it was too much. my dd (who was 17) had been watching it and we recorded it i debated with myself if she should see it I know she was a near adult blah blah but it was so real looking i was really disturbed by it let alone a young woman

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/09/2015 16:31

I'll be watching, but may watch all in order first again so will avoid spoilers.
I didn't like the rape scene obv, but it somehow went in the programme and did it's job as being hard hitting and disturbing, that said, I'll fast forward as I don't need to see it again.

AnnPerkins · 12/09/2015 16:41

I haven't watched it since the rape scene. I don't have a problem with the film makers about it but it was too much for me. I don't think I was aware of the 88 one, or I was still avoiding it, but I'm looking forward to seeing the new one. The film always reminds me so much of my youth.

SparklyPenguin · 12/09/2015 16:48

The previous series are on 4-on-demand if anyone needs to catch up or refresh memory! I'm really looking forward to it, great characters.

Jackiebrambles · 12/09/2015 17:01

I agree about the rape scene, I couldn't stop thinking about it. It stayed with me for ages. As did the after math scenes with Lol and her dad.

88 was great though, Vicky McClure was so good.

I'll be watching tomorrow, with a hope that it isn't quite as hard hitting!!

Mrsjayy · 12/09/2015 17:09

Some of the scenes with lol and dad were so intense i jumped a few times that SeanMeadows is a cheery bugger eh

Mrsjayy · 12/09/2015 17:12

Shane tut

Snapespeare · 12/09/2015 17:15

I hadn't watched it before, but saw 90 was going to be on, so bulk watched the series (but still haven't seen the film) the rape scene(s) were horrifying. Also Lols overdose flashbacks. I feel a great sympathy for her. I really want her to be happy.

I rewatched 88 today. Really looking forward to 90/s

I was shocked when I watched the rape scene, but think the raw way it was depicted showed rape for the horrible brutal crime that it is. I think many shows and movies show rape for titilation but I think it was different in TIE.

I loved the piano music and have bought all of Ludovico's albums since hearing nuvole bianche on 86.

Decanter · 13/09/2015 01:11

I'm not watching (yet) as I haven't seen any of the previous series. Can someone explain/confirm if I should be watching the film (set in 83) before I watch the 3 series (86, 88 and the new one, 90) or is the film standalone. Thanks.

Ledkr · 13/09/2015 05:07

Watched the recap tonight in the stunned silence I always watch his stuff.
Like anyone who saw it I found the rape scene difficult to watch but I wasn't surprised or shocked as it was supposed to depict the most heinous crime and it was important to portray it's absolutely unbelievable vileness to justify the rest of the storyline.
Imo
