New (final) 'This Is England 90'. Who's watching?

I saw a massive poster for Sunday night's new season, just as the tube train arrived. I let my train home go so I could stare in detail at the characters' new looks. Who are the two blokes on the far left - have they been on before?

There is a This Is England characters catch-up documentary show on Channel4 tonight (Friday) after new Gogglebox, so prob 10pm.

Oooh. This is a the most interesting thread I've read in ages.

Was Shane/Sean/Shaun just skilled at appearing to be very diffident - about almost everything then? (says me who observed that he wasn't really into photography Grin)

DoubleDeClutchMuch · 05/10/2015 20:05

yes I'm also enjoying the thread and now tempted to re-watch the finale.

did anyone notice "Easy Lover" was being played at the wedding reception just as Kelly turns up.

SurlyCue · 05/10/2015 21:31

Oh thomas is such a baby in that video!! So cute. Why do they grow up? Keep 'em small I say! Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 05/10/2015 21:51

I did wonder about Kelly admitting to injecting and Combo/'s body not being found whether Shane Meadows was setting things up for another series in case he was persuaded into it.

I suppose it was meant to be a snapshot of lives though, and real life doesn't really do neat endings does it?

StoorieHoose · 05/10/2015 21:57

Im sure that at Combos parole hearing that it was manslaughter not murder that's why he was out early

I adore Vicky McClure. Such as brilliant actress with fabulous hair!

beavington · 05/10/2015 23:25

Just caught up tonight - loved it! I never got into Kelly's storyline as much tbh so im glad it didn't overwhelm the finale. Felt so sorry for Combo. Stephen Graham is a brilliant actor - he was truly terrifying in the film.

Shane Meadows is so talented it's unreal. I don't know whether he has an eye for good actors or just moulds them perfectly. Milky and lol were also in A Room For Romeo Brass - top film. Paddy Consodine is also in it - another amazing Nottingham actor who pops up in a few of Meadows projects. Shane Meadows also did Dead Mans Shoes. I love his work cant wait to see his next stuff! Will have to rewatch This Is England from the start in the meantime since Ive not watched them since they were all new.

I watched the film last night for the first time since it was released. It was amazing how quickly i started to hate combo despite knowing what i know about his later development.

And harvey was only in it very briefly at the start. He grew into himself i think Grin

But what an amazing film. After seeing the audition of thomas turgoose you can totally see why he got the part. He was pretty much just playing himself!

The smell thing still creeps me out though. I think its because she looks sooooo much older than him. It seemed all wrong.

NoahVale · 06/10/2015 11:05

there was rather a height difference wasnt there? and the suck my tits, hmm

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2015 11:07

When i watched it the other week i fast forwarded the smell scenes grossed me out a bit but when i saw it at first it didnt bother me but when you rewatch after seeing the programmes you realise how young he was meant to be (does any of that make sense) . I think smell was 16

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2015 11:08

Harvey replaced another character in the programme didnt he ? Got the characters lines

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2015 11:09

Well not meant to be he was that young

NoahVale · 06/10/2015 11:24

but when i watched the film and earlier series I assumed it was because the smell and shaun interactions were based on shane meadows real life, so didnt bat that much of an eye lid over it

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2015 11:29

Its weird how perceptions change I get teenagers do stuff together it just felt wrong some how but smell and shaun are the same age group now.

SurlyCue · 06/10/2015 11:53

I think smell was 16

Yes she turned 16 in the original film. I dont think the age difference at that age is a massive issue really, he was 13 but maybe close to 14? Its just that he was soo baby faced and she was soooo grown up looking. It looked like a mum holding her child's hand. Grin

Harvey was called harvey in the film too, he was the one who picked on shaun at the start about his dad and they had a fight. Thats the only part he had in the film.

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2015 12:10

Yeah harvey was Harvey.shaun was really babyfaced it just looked wrong so so wrong.

leccybill · 06/10/2015 13:42

Harvey was Harvey in the film but then took on Pukey's character in the TV series'.
I think his acting is superb, you can see he has really honed his craft.

Trudy is Stephen Graham's wife in real life, if I'm not mistaken!

Cocolepew · 06/10/2015 14:40

Which one was Trudy?

SurlyCue · 06/10/2015 14:44

Trudy was the lady in the shoe shop in the film and then gadge had an fling with her in the first series. She was a bit insatiable and had been "company" for several of the characters at one point or another.

(Im watching first series now.)

PolishRemoverOfNail · 06/10/2015 14:48

Is that true about Trudy? Fascinating if so, I enjoy reading everyone else's synopsis on TIE, gives another perspective to see how others view the characters.

I did like Smell and I think there was only a small age gap between her and Shaun.

Most of the actors were amazing and I really believed their characters - for me however I felt gadget was the weakest actor IMO. Shaun has improved and the others are just so believable.

I know Shane said he wouldn't do a '92 but if it wins enough awards/plaudits then hopefully he will change his mind.

BastardGoDarkly · 06/10/2015 14:53

I wished the father of Trudy's son had found out, and had a relationship with him :(

Cocolepew · 06/10/2015 14:58

Thanks Smile
I wonder why Smell wasn't in this one so much . She seemed to have broke away from them.
The last episode was good, though mainly, imo, because of Combo. Stephen Graham is a great actor.
I still dont think this series was as good as the others. It was a, slow burner, which is ok if it had had more episodes. But because it didnt it felt rushed at the end.

Mrsjayy · 06/10/2015 16:05

I think you are right rudey trudy is Steven Grahams wife still not seen the bloody thing Dh has been on call and he didnt want to start watching and be phoned to work might watch it on all 4 and not tell him Grin

Tiredemma · 06/10/2015 16:13

I think there will be another Series- or a one-off perhaps.

Just feel it in my bones...!

beavington · 06/10/2015 20:24

I hope they don't. Its rubbish when its taken one too far and ruins the legacy of the rest. Shane meadows can do something else equally good he's brilliant.

Surlycue, it's amazing they managed to get us to feel sympathy for combo considering how vile he is in the film.

Ive found the ages difficult all the way through to be honest. How old are they in the film and how old are they now??? Glad they managed to make a point re Stephen Graham aging in the series cos if he's meant to be same age as woody then yeh, he had it rough in prison! Grin
