New (final) 'This Is England 90'. Who's watching?

I saw a massive poster for Sunday night's new season, just as the tube train arrived. I let my train home go so I could stare in detail at the characters' new looks. Who are the two blokes on the far left - have they been on before?

There is a This Is England characters catch-up documentary show on Channel4 tonight (Friday) after new Gogglebox, so prob 10pm.

Thats unfair all pp are pointing out is previous have been faster paced strories moved faster to say that rape isnt exciting enough is quite a low blow Anyfucker

WoodleyPixie · 22/09/2015 21:03

I think you've been reading a different thread?

Everyone has questioned why the rape/ambiguous consent scenes are included and has he gone too far with them.

Real life isn't eastender moments but this is a tv drama and they are usually a but faster paced.

Anyway it's off of my planner now as I can read and watch depressing things in the news each day without watching it for 'entertainment'!

AnyFucker · 22/09/2015 23:20

It's not a low blow at all. There is a pretty graphic rape scene and people are (after only two episodes) describing it as "boring".

Well, ok then. Maybe "disturbing", maybe "going too far" (but it's not actually all that uncommon for young women to be sexually assaulted when not in any position to say no is it ?), maybe even "gratuitous"

But "boring" ? Have a word with yourself.

Meanwhile back at the ranch....

I wonder what fresh out of jail Combo will be like...reformed? Will he have found God? Hmmm

hildasmuriel · 23/09/2015 08:46

I caught up with the second episode last night and I thought, after a more light start last week, it was powerful TV. I think lots of us were enjoying the nostalgia and music of our youth when - wham - reality hit us in the face. Episode 2 exposed the dark side of rave culture and I thought the confusion of Kelly's story was so harrowing. It contrasted so well to the gentle support Sean got when he spilled out his story. Still funny moments but I don't watch This is England for light hearted entertainment, I watch it because I've seen a group of characters grow up and I care about them. This is England has produced some of the most memorable TV for me and I'm afraid Kelly's story will stick with me for a long time.

Cannot wait till combo comes out, as milky is practically living with lol and woody at the moment the dynamics will change.

Lagoonablue · 23/09/2015 15:38

Get what you mean about growing up with the characters. I feel as if they are people I actually know! I am sooo over Invested!

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 24/09/2015 09:09

Its really high quality stuff. I love all his films too. Yes the themes can be dark but that's why it stays with you I suppose.

ginmakesitallok · 27/09/2015 21:33

Phew... how draining was that????

Ledkr · 27/09/2015 21:35

Fuuuucck.
I reckon a lot of that was improvised.

Yarpyarp · 27/09/2015 21:40

Need a lie down after that

Yarpyarp · 27/09/2015 21:41

Agree re improvisation. Really good

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 27/09/2015 21:45

Fucking stunning. This is superb quality television

chosenone · 27/09/2015 21:49

Amazing but difficult ! That nurse lady must've felt awkward as...Hmm

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 27/09/2015 22:03

What is milky planning?

ginmakesitallok · 27/09/2015 22:05

Who was the other woman at the table?? I reckon milky is going to get combo

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 27/09/2015 22:08

The nurse? From when lol was in hospital. What sort of get? It sounded like he had a hit out!

BastardGoDarkly · 27/09/2015 22:09

Wow, that was hardcore Confused

Sweetsweetjane · 27/09/2015 22:19

BackInTheRealWorld I'm a bit late to respond to you but what you wrote about Kelly last week is exactly how it was for me too.respect to you for writing that and for having the insight. I had such low self esteem based on what I had 'let' men do when I was off my face, looking back now I just wonder how many men have and are still doing it, taking full advantage, some of the, will be settled down with their own kids and wives now, wonder if they ever feel any guilt?
Superb series,I watched the film so long ago need to watch again for the back story. The 90s was a mix of shimmering light and crashing, sucidal downers, we thought we had it Sussed!
I have never seen any other Shane Meadows films, will have to catch up.

HalfWomanHalfCake · 27/09/2015 22:28

That was one of the best hours of television I have ever watched. Love Lol and Woody's relationship. I'm almost too scared to watch next week. It's not going to end well, is it?

mumofthemonsters808 · 27/09/2015 22:35

Superb episode, television at its best. I noticed in the adverts Netflicks NAchos was advertised, now that is a series well worth watching, it's brilliant.

Nancery · 27/09/2015 22:39

Late to the thread but does anyone else think that Milky is planning to murder / beat up Combo with....Woody? Me and DH have been trying to work out who he was on the phone to

SiencynArsecandle · 27/09/2015 22:39

Apparently the kitchen table scene was filmed in one take - absolutely amazing acting, hope it gets the recognition and awards it deserves.

floatyflo · 27/09/2015 22:41

The scene around the table was just fucking amazing. All of the acting was just off the scale. They all made it so believable and raw and real.

floatyflo · 27/09/2015 22:42

I assumed Milky was on the phone to someone in his family - a brother maybe? He said 'love you' at the end of the call.

Whatta twist that would be if it was Woody!
