I saw a massive poster for Sunday night's new season, just as the tube train arrived. I let my train home go so I could stare in detail at the characters' new looks. Who are the two blokes on the far left - have they been on before?

There is a This Is England characters catch-up documentary show on Channel4 tonight (Friday) after new Gogglebox, so prob 10pm.

Dh is saying the same its not gripping him

Mrsjayy · 21/09/2015 09:44

Yeah i went to ticketed raves i didnt partake in drugs so usually went home i was THAT cool Grin girl i worked with was in the know and was a proper raver and would turn up on the monday twitching

Tiredemma · 21/09/2015 13:28

I watched it just. Thought it was brilliant- a real mix between humour (Flip and Higgy in a 'handfasting' ceremony with the two pretty girls) and darkness (Kelly).
I spoke to my cousin on FB earlier (before watching it) and she laughed at the 'rave'- she was a massive raver and spoke about going miles to find some huge event but ending in in some hippy commune and just partying there for the night- so I do think elements of it must have some back story for Shane perhaps?

Very dark underneath though isnt it? Thought that the scene between Shaun and the older lady was just beautiful.

TheOrchardKeeper · 21/09/2015 13:35

Agree about the sweet scene between Shaun and the older lady. I wondered if it was going to go somewhere similarly creepy (Kelly) and had felt like Shaun's character wasn't progressing at all this series but it seemed like a turning point and like there was more of a reason behind his behaviour.

And the road trip scenes were funny. I like Shane Meadows because life can be very funny and very dark all at the same time and he's always captured that quite well. And the actor's and (generally) spot on. Liked the BBQ scenes and it's nice to see Lol & Woody doing much better after the last series at least because that was just SO bleak.

Did fast forward the slow mo dancing though, it was a bit boring Grin

WoodleyPixie · 21/09/2015 13:49

I think the rape scene and the depressing story lines of the previous episodes have put me off. I watched last weeks and have sky plussed last nights. However I'm not going out of my way to watch it.

The first episode bored me, the stuff with Woody and his parents, were they on drugs? H is always watching dark depressing tv, so he really rates the series.

I know its a drama and life was/is shit for a lot of people (I don't have an idyllic life myself), but I like my tv watching to be escapism and a bit of light watching.

Lagoonablue · 21/09/2015 14:19

Hey it is fantastic telly. All you nay Sayers........get a grip!

I loved the barbie scene. I love Woody though he is a brill actor.

I find it can just take me right back to a time and place so easily. The detail is always right. Even last night Gadgets top was so well worn and washed it was bobbly. Probably his only ravers top bless him. I love Gadget.

Stick with it people. It is authentic TV.

Cocolepew · 21/09/2015 14:54

Its chuffing boring, thatswhat it is Grin
Everything is too dragged out , the scene last week in Woodys parents, the phone call, the dancing , the bbq.
Zzzzzzzzzz

Mrsjayy · 21/09/2015 14:59

Meant to ask did anybody notice ( and we only saw her for a few minutes) but smells voice had changed it didnt sound like her at all

Cocolepew · 21/09/2015 15:01

Never noticed, it was her though. Maybe she has a new voice for art college.
The actress who plays Kelly is beautiful.

Mrsjayy · 21/09/2015 15:17

Maybe it was her art student voice

Cocolepew · 22/09/2015 08:46
Grin
leccybill · 22/09/2015 16:09

The actor who plays Harvey has come on tremendously since 86 and 88, his acting is fantastic now, very natural with great comic timing.

I love the authenticity of it, the cars, the fashion, that bed headboard, even little Jimmy looks like a baby from 1990.

Mrsjayy · 22/09/2015 16:48

Dh said he couldnt remember pencil taches i said they were stuck in the mid80s and lurked and leered in discos clubs

Fartinabucket · 22/09/2015 16:58

I'm so disappointed with this 90 series.

I've loved the others but this one is boring. It's been on for two hours now and nothing has actually happened. Well, okay, a load of people went to a Madchester night in a communnity centre, then Lol and Woody had a BBQ, then a few of the others went to some hippy thing and Kelly tried some H and had sex with some blokes.

Okaaaaay.

I really thought, and hoped, Kelly was going to OD and die on Sunday night which would have brought it crashing down to reality and meant something would have actually happened but no.

I hate it when creators or directors are given free reign based on the quality of their older stuff but then just can't bothered to put in the effort and just rock up, put any old shit together, take their massive cheque and go home.

I'm not watching next week.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 22/09/2015 17:24

I would say kelly was raped wouldn't you?
I agree it's not the same calibre as the older series but u think next week will bring it up

Mrsjayy · 22/09/2015 17:30

I think it was rape yeah she was off her face but they all were they didnt give her much option when she said she was a slag my heart broke for her

ditavonteesed · 22/09/2015 17:35

It was horrible, I watched all the previous ones and had forgotten how harrowing it is, couldn't sleep sunday night think I will leave it at that for me, it is far too dark. That sounds really wussy doesn't it but I just felt horrible after watching on Sunday, that scene with kelly was truely chilling.

loveliesbleeding1 · 22/09/2015 18:44

Gadget looking after kelly the following morning was a great scene, but there is just something missing at the moment, it's very slow.

WoodleyPixie · 22/09/2015 18:46

Dita I think you've just summer up how I feel about it as well.

BackInTheRealWorld · 22/09/2015 18:56

This one affected me more than I was expecting. Sadly I really identified with Kelly being a fucked up mess and being too off her head to stop being abused by blokes taking advantage of the state they got her in. It was really hard to watch and I was shocked at how shaken up and emotional I felt afterwards.

Mrsjayy · 22/09/2015 19:02

That must have been difficult for you both Flowers I chased my dd to bed said she had to get up for college she didnt like the trippy bit i guessed something might happen (unsure what) Dd2 is quite sensitive so didnt want her upset. Dd1 has seen them all and isnt affected as much

nicknameidea · 22/09/2015 19:49

Shane Meadows seems to have some weird fascination (or something) with rape. Its a very strong theme through this series.

Im finding it boring too. Looking forward to Combo's return, Stephen Graham is a fab actor.

MyBeloved · 22/09/2015 20:06

I decided not to watch it following last series' rape scene. It was possibly the worst of its kind I had ever seen. It affected me very badly.

My H is still watching and came to bed last night to cuddle me after what he described as a scene I really wouldn't want to see. I think Shane Meadows is going too far.

I will not watch his stuff again.

AnyFucker · 22/09/2015 20:33

Life is "slow" though isn't it ?

It really isn't one Eastenders moment after another, you lot saying it is boring must be jaded drama seekers

is a rape not "exciting" enough for you ? Hmm

loveliesbleeding1 · 22/09/2015 20:52

I also really liked the who am I ? Game when woody said"i call you it all the time" to Lol, and she was Myra Hindley, brilliant.
