Corrie Thread - Bet Emily is relieved there is one less child for her 24 hour creche

With Miley gone, never to be heard of for the next 15 years until she turns up with a new head, at least Emily won't have to babysit her every day and night for the foreseeable future.

New thread where we can hope the scriptwriters wake up and actually start paying attention to plot lines and character histories.

Yes, Mavis knows Norris. He used to be a friend of Derek's, and they were both married to Angela, as Symphony has said.

There was a programme about Rita (Barbara Knox) shown last year or earlier this year, and Rita went to meet up with Mavis, and they watched themselves from old scenes. It was great. They used to be so funny together.

Yes, Bet did a bit of a return, but it wasn't really successful, I think. They had made her a bit unpleasant, if I remember correctly, whereas she would always have been, an outwardly tough, inwardly soft person, who took no nonsense from anyone, but was really kind and a good friend, at the same time.

The Sinead-in-a-wheelchair story seems to have disappeared. I'd completely forgotten about her until I saw some news about a camping holiday Beth, Kirk, Craig, Chesney and Sinead have, and meet a Bear Grylls type of chap, played by a guest actor whose name I can't remember.

Clawdy · 01/07/2015 12:18

Wasn't the curly-haired barmaid called Gina? in real life, married to the guy who played the evil Jez Quigley!

GetHappy · 01/07/2015 19:09

Eddie - thinks it Paddy Mcguiness

AnguaResurgam · 01/07/2015 20:45

Thanks, Symphony and Agatha!

I wasn't in UK for a while in the 90s, so missed a lot of Corrie. Including, it seems, two characters overlapping for nearly 3 years Blush

pinkandstripey · 02/07/2015 12:24

What was that bit in the end credits last night about a camera?

desperatehousewife21 · 02/07/2015 12:25

Bit behind with the thread!

Just came on to say Michelle's hair does not look good in a scraped back ponytail it makes her ears look big Grin

eddiemairswife · 02/07/2015 12:48

Does Fizz think she's Roy's carer? She was hanging around in the cafe when Cathy rang and then went with Roy in the taxi. Why wasn't she at work or looking after Hope and Ruby? Also has she applied for Hope to start at Bessie Street in September?

Jo4040 · 02/07/2015 14:00

Fiz is just a TIT head really. Over acts all the bloody time

AuntieStella · 02/07/2015 14:04

Bessie Street and Weatherfield Comp must both be undersubscribed, as anyone seems able to get a place at any time.

Housemum · 02/07/2015 14:23

Was thinking about the Corrie schools the other day - in real life the autumn, all you ever hear is mums talking to each other about the local school and whether to try to apply out of catchment, what are the chances of getting in etc. In Corrie, every child goes to the catchment school, end of. (Except Rosie at Oakhill). Must be outstanding OFSTED rated then! (Which is hard to believe if Brian used to be in charge of the primary...)

elbowsdontsing2 · 02/07/2015 18:22

corrie is at an all time low i know they are known for the homour but kirk and the bad hand gag was cringeworthy and brian and dev doing the cowboy stand off was beyond dire.
sack the writers and get it back to how it use to be before it ends up the same as brookside

eddiemairswife · 02/07/2015 19:27

One problem is that no ordinary event is allowed to go smoothly. Yesterday, with a decent script, they could have had made Roy taking his test into a really good sequence of events in which we viewers would have real interest in the outcome, because we've got to know Roy and care about him. Instead we had the farce of Cathy and her keys.

woodhill · 02/07/2015 21:59

Michelle's hair looks dreadful.

did Liz's new man used to be Dave in the bill ?

had a dream that I went upstairs in the Platt's elastic house and met David and he explained about the bedrooms

NoMontagues · 02/07/2015 22:08

It's true eddie I was looking forward to Roy doing his test.

Couldn't care less about what's her name. Of course that could be because I fast forwarded through every single allotment scene which is where, I think, she emanated from- was it?

Is she meant to be a love interest for Roy? It's hideous if she is. Roy and Haley were great together because she was the yin to his yang. They can't replace Haley with someone even more anxious and awkward than Roy, but with none of his charm and kindness. Poor Roy!

NoMontagues · 02/07/2015 22:10

And woodhill ....

woodhill · 02/07/2015 22:13

really weird, the upstairs was huge and looked like an old fashioned house with a long corridor, definitely tardis like, he even commented that there were 2 toilets, really odd dream

NoMontagues · 02/07/2015 22:20

It sounds like an awesome dream wood

Glad to hear David gave you a nice tour!

I'm going to imagine their upstairs like that from now on Grin

AnneEyhtMeyer · 02/07/2015 22:36

I love your dream, wood. It makes perfect sense!

Re sinard everyone who becomes Disabled makes rapid recover out of wheelchair ASAP remember Sophie "I will never walk again saga"

No mention of fizz going to work at factory like they would have kept her job open all that time, I think not.

Cathys living in her shed I think, though Carla's in roys spare room
So not sure where she will go.

What's happening with the vicar boyfriend not been on for ages? Didn't he decide to leave the church because he loved him ? Then never been on again, Or did they split up?

eddiemairswife · 03/07/2015 08:15

Didn't vicar boyfriend do Miley's non-christening?

AgathaChristie01 · 03/07/2015 11:09

Yes, I think Billy did the non-christening.

I know that Carla has to be written out, because she is leaving, and it will be one more reason for me to stop watching, because she is one of my absolute favourites. But, once again, the scriptwriters / producers have messed up.

Carla, as far as she knows, caused the fire in her apartment, two people died, and she is drinking, laughing, chatting and now gambling, a few weeks later, as normal.
Yes, that's realistic... Hmm

Housemum · 03/07/2015 12:34

Vicar decided he would stand up to the bishop and not deny that he was gay. So still with Sean, still working.

Agatha - I'm also stunned at how quickly Carla is just back around, she's obviously had her insurance payout (or maxed the credit card) and been shopping as she isn't shuffling round in Hayley's clothes, and surely in RL there would be an awkwardness whenever she walked into the Rovers, staring and pointing.

The sooner Julie and Brian sail into the sunset the better. If Dev could follow them to the port and fall into the sea, so much the better (perhaps he could take time out to go to acting school)

MyBeloved · 03/07/2015 13:30

Does Julie remind anyone else of the Bake a Lite Girl from Wallace and grommett?

AgathaChristie01 · 03/07/2015 14:23

Am laughing housemum at the thought of Carla wearing Hayley's stuff Grin. She would rock that red jacket!
Exactly, she is back to herself, and the fire is forgotten, by the looks of things. It really struck me when she and Michelle walked into the back room with their glasses of wine the other night, laughing and chatting as normal.

Having said all that, in terms of acting, Alison King wipes the floor with most of the people around her, she brings such credibility to her scenes. I hope that Carla and Peter have some scenes together when he returns for Deirdre's funeral.
I wish she wasn't leaving Sad, and I hope Peter comes back at some point, for a longer stint.
