OK, after freaking the bejaysus out of me with the weird trailer / advert I am intrigued and looking forward to giving this programme a viewing.

(I will have to record and watch later as I will be watching Messrs Strange and Norrell.)

Anyone else looking forward to it and hoping it lives up to the hype?

Reminded me a lot of Black Mirror (which you should definitely watch if you liked this!)

Trills · 15/06/2015 20:40

Joining you. Have not watched yet.

CamelliaA · 15/06/2015 21:37

A cheap derivative of 'The Stepford Wives',(1975 version),without the subtlety,or vague unsettling humour. Watch that instead.

Italiangreyhound · 15/06/2015 21:43

EeyoresTail oh yes the water flashbacks, that is very iRobot too!

I strongly suspect the blonde sex-worker synth will be the first to kill someone. Yes Usernamesarehard I think you may be right, bet it is one of the clients and she then uses the blokes hand to open the door, a la Die another day and numerous other things! - Just a guess not a spoiler! but the fact she told us the door can only be open by a human hand has got to have some extra meaning!

Usernamesarehard I am sure he will, there was a bedroom door closing in a certain manner (ie behind a young synth) in the trailers! Oh dear, over analysing already!

Wonder if it is British made or a combi?

MadeMan I hope it is not like AI that was the most depressing film I have ever watched.

passthewineplz · 15/06/2015 23:40

It was the first time Leo had met Niska (the blonde one) in the brothel. I actually thought she was going to go a bit nuts and kill someone too.

I think the flash backs of Nina under the water trapped in a car, might have something to do with a previous life and her relationship with Leo.

passthewineplz · 15/06/2015 23:41

Sorry meant Anita, not Nina..

Rummikub · 15/06/2015 23:48

Leo did know her (niska). She'd been taken from the woods with Anita and the other one and rebooted (illegally?)

Italiangreyhound · 15/06/2015 23:49

passthewineplz how do you know it was the first time Leo had met Niska? I watched it twice and I still feel a bit in the dark! It's good though, better than watching Made in Chelsea do Come Dining, which is on now!!

passthewineplz · 16/06/2015 00:42

Sorry I meant it was the first time that Leo had met up with Niska, after they split up in the woods. Like umm said

passthewineplz · 16/06/2015 00:43

Sorry meant rumm silly iPhone predictive text

HelenaDove · 16/06/2015 02:40

Watched it. The relationship between William Hurts character and the young male synth reminded me of this film i watched when i was a kid/teen.

Usernamesarehard · 16/06/2015 07:24

italian I bet you're right re:using the hand! I can imagine the scene now!

I think they made a big deal of him removing the "18+" tag while pointedly looking at his son to show his initial intentions. But I think you're right, he'll definitely try and have sex with Anita. Oh god that will end horribly.

Oodear · 16/06/2015 07:50

We watched this last night. Very much looking forward to the next one.

MadeMan · 16/06/2015 18:10

"he'll definitely try and have sex with Anita. Oh god that will end horribly."

I couldn't have sex with a robot; I'd be worried that she might have a meat grinder at the end of her vagina.

CamelliaA · 16/06/2015 20:02

That horrible bearded fuck from Mr Selfridge is thinking about shagging Anita in the first episode makes me think that this whole series is going to be about how androids could be used by men.

MadeMan · 16/06/2015 20:08

Probably more likely it'll be about how androids in general are used and discriminated against; everyone treats them like shit seems blatantly prejudiced against them already in episode 1. Similar to Will Smith's prejudice in I Robot.

Trills · 16/06/2015 20:28

Dammit, why will 4OD not let me transmit over my Chromecast?

It's a totally legal thing that says "put what's on the screen of my tablet onto my TV".

And 4OD won't let me.

Fuckers.

MadeMan · 16/06/2015 22:09

If you've got a pair of super powerful reading glasses Trills, then your tablet might almost look the size of the tv screen. Wink

038THETA · 16/06/2015 22:28

bit of a cliche...replicant turned rouge/can a machine be conscious etc etc,
and a bit hard to suspend disbelief when they are advanced enough to have synthetic humans and yet dont seem to have made any other technological leaps Hmm

ElphabaGreen · 16/06/2015 22:32

Same with AppleTV Trills - bloody annoying!

038THETA · 16/06/2015 22:39

if these things were real I'm sure they'd be largely owned by men and used for sex, and men would largely lose interest in human women preferring a compliant robot.

Then again, sauce for the goose..I think it would be the end of relationships, but by the time we get advanced enough for synthetic humans we'd all be spending a great deal of time in some sort of virtual reality surely

MadeMan · 16/06/2015 22:45

You could argue perhaps that internet porn and social media is the beginning of the end of relationships and in a sense a somewhat virtual reality already.

038THETA · 16/06/2015 22:52

indeed

038THETA · 16/06/2015 23:00

I don't think it'll happen, just like flying cars didnt happen, some other breakthrough will take us off in a whole different direction

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/06/2015 23:10

Just watching it now. It's like the film Frank and the Robot.
