OK, after freaking the bejaysus out of me with the weird trailer / advert I am intrigued and looking forward to giving this programme a viewing.

(I will have to record and watch later as I will be watching Messrs Strange and Norrell.)

Anyone else looking forward to it and hoping it lives up to the hype?

Yes it said at the beginning "5 weeks earlier".

I like the idea of having a synth to help me (single parent) but they're a bit spooky! Though Anita is stunningly beautiful.

Rummikub · 14/06/2015 22:26

Liked it a lot.

I've been reading spoilers too and I think it's going to be good.

FujimotosElixir · 14/06/2015 22:44

marking my place, felt sorry for the old man.

Rummikub · 14/06/2015 23:00

Hmm think Vera is going to be a strict synth.

Italiangreyhound · 14/06/2015 23:09

Felt a bit sorry for the old man's young man robot! And the sex worker. Sad thing is of course real sex workers are real people Sad

passthewineplz · 14/06/2015 23:17

It was really good, can't wait until next Sunday!

MadeMan · 14/06/2015 23:25

I thought it was pretty good. Not heard anything about it previously as I don't watch much telly, but it makes a change from all the boring period drama stuff they always put on the box.

Rummikub · 14/06/2015 23:34

So Leo is not a synth?

RomanMum · 14/06/2015 23:52

Who was Leo?

Rummikub · 14/06/2015 23:54

The dark haired one in the woods leading the group of synths. He had normal eyes.

NoahVale · 15/06/2015 07:28

agree, it was so heavily advertised I thought this must be a second series.
looks good.
have high hopes, like katherine parkinson and other known actors in it too

hattymattie · 15/06/2015 09:23

Leo is Merlin and (I think) not a robot. Loved it although as usual hated the excessive publicity breaks.

Asheth · 15/06/2015 09:35

This show may not be far fetched...

Japanese robot hotel

Italiangreyhound · 15/06/2015 09:40

Yes, he is not a robot because the sex worker robot needed him to open the door by pressing the button because it needed human heat to do it. I wonder if he had never visited her there before, which is why she told him or if that was for our benefit.

So did Anita burn the mum with the lasagne on purpose, because she called her a 'bloody tin can'!

TendonQueen · 15/06/2015 09:44

I enjoyed it. The 'man can't cope while his wife works away' annoyed me too though, and the teenage daughter deserved a proper bollocking for her attitude. Bit depressing too that all the men see the female synths as domestic/sexual drudges so easily - perhaps realistic though.

senua · 15/06/2015 09:52

Not all. Didn't Old Bloke like his synth because it was his only link back to his wife who had passed away.

The teenage daughter definitely needs a talking to. She was complaining that synths were going to take all the jobs and leave her generation unemployed. Yet the whole reason why her dad got Anita was because the parents (older, working generation) were rushed off their feet whilst the younger generation sat on their backsides, playing with technology and not helping out round the house!

TendonQueen · 15/06/2015 10:00

Yes, but his synth was male. I said female. Agree about the teenagers, their parents needed to put a rocket up their arses!

senua · 15/06/2015 10:11

Oh, sorry. So you did.Blush

FujimotosElixir · 15/06/2015 10:12

matilda needs a good crack! horrible brat. yeah arent anita and merlin 'in love' i think the blonde one kills her punter could be wrong.

Italiangreyhound · 15/06/2015 10:31

TendonQueen re Bit depressing too that all the men see the female synths as domestic/sexual drudges so easily - perhaps realistic though.

oh yes, I totally missed the implication of that! I did notice the sales man giving the dad a wink as if to say 'you'll be well in there' 9not the implication of that phrase just the slight innuendo of a wink!)

The sex work thing was all beyond creepy. Even the daughter saw the robot as a slave. But then maybe SOME teenagers see adult women as workers!

Only the smaller daughter seemed to relate to the robot as a person, which of course she/it is not anyway!

senua the old bloke's robot was not female.

Even the young boy has an eye for the robot, as this article rather blatantly states!

This article if beautifully written...

"“It’ll mess with their heads”

Uh-oh. Laura (Katherine Parkinson, with her face so unimpressed) is back from Leeds. She knows something’s not right when the shoes are all lined up in the hall and the house is spotless. The synth is waiting, cleaning products in hand. “It’s not right,” insists Laura, worried about the kids. “It’ll mess with their heads.” Not that she’s got a leg to stand on. She’s been away for five whole days – the place was bound to fall apart if her husband didn’t shell out 20 grand for some android-based help. They name their synth Anita."

okitoki · 15/06/2015 15:43

It reminded me of a sedate (thus far only first episode) version of Blade Runner.
As for the house wife/sex worker sexism, totally realistic, not right but we can idiolise equal ops all we want but that is not a true reflection of the the world we actually live in is it?
I loved the lady with the male physiotherapist synth, 'Oh Simon,' giggle, giggle as he carries her off for a hot bath. Now that's my kinda synth!

EeyoresTail · 15/06/2015 15:55

Did anyone notice the dad pocketing the 18+ leaflet that came with the bumpf for Anita? I wonder if he'll use it! That's assuming Anita comes back with the young daughter!! Shock
I think the wife will realise there is something off with Anita but no one will listen to her.
I'm not sure what to make of the "flashbacks" Anita has to water. Maybe the mother's parents died in a car that crashed into a lake. Or it might happen to the mum in the future!

Usernamesarehard · 15/06/2015 15:57

I was really underwhelmed! Hope it picks up. No likeable or relatable characters so far. I strongly suspect the blonde sex-worker synth will be the first to kill someone.

Usernamesarehard · 15/06/2015 15:59

Eeyore he glanced at his son before that, I think he was tying to prevent his son accessing "18+" options... Really hope he doesn't use it. Gross.

MadeMan · 15/06/2015 18:07

If Anita is sentient then I doubt she'll let the dad use the 18+ features on her without some payback.

Not sure how the series will play out yet; will it be like the film A.I. or something more chilling/disturbing?

As well as Bladerunner and I Robot, it reminds me a bit of the film Class of 1999 with the robot teachers, so maybe Anita, the sex worker and all, are ex-military grade killer machines!
