Praise God. For Norah and her Finale thread.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 26/03/2015 19:19

Librarian was my dream job when I was little, I practically lived at the library Smile I thought about becoming one but it's a long education and the work possibilites and salary are not great so I decided against it. I did work in a book shop for about a year but in the department for law, chemistry etc. Not really my cup of tea, not to mention the bloody customers Confused

Enormouse · 26/03/2015 19:20

That's it, it was a few years ago. So wrong museum but right exhibit

Oooh at the history of forensics though

MiladyBeaWinter · 26/03/2015 19:22

Phillipa Gregory writes good fiction, but shocking history. I wouldn't mind if she admitted she just makes stuff up, but she won't.

Alison Weir is really good, she does fiction and biographies. Lyndie I think you would like Elizabeth Chadwick and her books on William the Marshall. Sharon Penman does a good welsh history trilogy though she is probably not very accurate, but she is honest about it and doesn't get on my tits about it like Gregory. Hilary Mantel is excellent.

FancyFancy · 26/03/2015 19:28

Back from parents' evening - lots of nice things said about DD so we're happy. She has even been much less quiet in class (in a good way Grin ), which I was pleasantly surprised by.

DS's report came home too - pretty good, but seems he needs a small kick up the bum, or would a crack of the whip be more appropriate? Grin.

Need to get dinner, laters

FolknNorah · 26/03/2015 19:31

As we're on the whole HP thing we aren't has anyone seen Neville recently?

Finally back in the house and after getting dc to bed, have headed in here first and settling down in the CoS. ,Ahhhh bliss.

Horrid journey home, massive accident on M27 had closed eastbound and whole of Soton was snarled up. We were within 0.3 miles of home, going nowhere and made the bad decision to turn around and go into to town to feed dc. Once we'd committed we then decided to check the traffic

Neville - another reason why we must catch up with Bluestone 42.

Wellcome - been on my to do list for quite a while, must get to it. The Forensic science exhibition sounds great.

Must i-player the Tom Felton thing and hope to god I don't recognise any of the fans (HP was my first proper fandom but I thought my little corner was relatively sane)

We did a fantastic history curriculum in third year secondary. It was thematic over the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries and we looked at stuff such as education (so charity schools, Sunday schools, through to Butler Education Act and the new universities in the 60s), medicine (Jenner, Pasteur etc through to Flemming), housing, welfare/charity (poor law, work houses through to the Beveridge Report and the foundation of the welfare state). I thought it was brilliant but my parents were completely bamboozled by it as it wasn't all kings and queens.

Right, off to interact with DH.

Evening (again)

You're looking very pert there sparks Wink

Glad you're back home safely issy, what a nightmare.

If you like Neville, then the last ep of Bluestone 42 will be a pleasant watch - much topless running around by Towerblock. The new medic character is marvellous - even more sweary than in here Grin

My school was utterly traditional about history - O level was mostly Victorian political history, mentioning The Corn Laws is likely to bring me out in a cold sweat. I did enjoy it to a point, but with a few exceptions, most of the historical books I've read since have covered periods we didn't do in school.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 26/03/2015 21:03

Love the cauldron Norah. Thread is not loading very well ...
24 hours to go...

Night wenches Smile

FancyFancy · 26/03/2015 21:20

Night ww

Enormouse · 26/03/2015 21:38

issy I did a very similar curriculum for gcse. They had brought in a revamped curriculum and I did the history of medicine from the ancient Greeks to the NHS, American prohibition and Elvis Presley and the sex revolution. I thought it was fantastic.

I love the CoS pic. Sums it all up really.

No rewatch here, we're watching flash and arrow. Much totty, Stephen Amell working out topless.

Enormouse · 26/03/2015 21:39

Night night WW Smile

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 26/03/2015 21:40

What about Loughborough Badders?

FolknNorah · 26/03/2015 21:42

Oh dear. Haven't I been sweary dirty enough for you fancy?

I'll have to do something about that eh?

In fact I haven't had a good of fashioned swear-off with the shitepad recently. I've been quite kind to it and it's funny ways.

Take the words fuck/fuckers/fucker/fuckingsorryfloppers. (Oh it still remembers to apologise to floppersz look! Naww.)

Anyway. Take those words. It refuses to let me write them. Every single fucking time I try to write them (including then) it tries to change it to duck/duckers (?)/ ducking. Or something of that ilk.
Why? How often do I need to write fuck off you fucking fuckersz in order for it to 'get it'?

Well. This. Shall. Not. Stand.

Oddly though, it likes cunt/cunts/cunting.
It will not only predict it Blush but will also change words to it. Grin
