Weird day at work. Had three more apprentices dumped on me (my own fault for criticising the way the last lot had to spend their first week). They were slightly older than the first set and one of them has also applied to the Royal Marines. He was 21 - I would not allow myself to fantasise about a 21 year old boy in uniform - but he was a very pleasant, confident young man, I had to say that. CJ at 29 is bad enough! Not sure why he admitted he's applied to the Marines at the same time as taking on a new job. I wouldn't have done!
The new role is taking over from the woman whose mother died at Christmas and who you may remember kept ringing me about 11.30 at night, totally distraught. The grief seems to have hit her now and firstly she went AWOL last week and then ended up at the doctor's. She reckons she is coming back tomorrow - no idea how she is going to react and whether she is going to go off sick again. I foresee problems as I reckon she is heading for a breakdown of some sort. She's been signed off but insists on being in work.
