Corrie thread - New thread for the New Year, time for another disaster?

New thread in time for the new year - hopefully this year will see the back of some awful characters.

I would personally like to see the following rounded up and shoved in a deep hole in the Red Rec:

Izzy
Anna
Owen
Gary
Michelle
Tracey-Luv
Gavin
Faye
Yasmeen and her entire extended family
The Community Centre
Kylie
Todd
Steph

That'll do for starters.

Lloyd tried to talk to Steve before he went to Spain[the jungle] but was rebuffed. He went to the doctor but she was useless.

Is Sally speaking posher/more poshly [sp] now?

I think that Lloyd is under the impression that Steve has 'man-trouble'.

Sally is trying to impress the new neighbours.

The Amy character grates on me. Is that horrible?

Report
ajandjjmum · 30/12/2014 14:03

Why does Steve speak to Amy like she's 3?!! She's really developing a character now - just not a very nice one. Hardly surprising I suppose.

Oh, that drives me mad too, can't bear the baby voice he puts on whenever he talks to her.

Just caught up on the last few episodes. Best part of the Christmas day episode was hand down: "I've never had a brother", "nor have I", followed by Sally bewildered face! Xmas Grin it must be so bizarre to have your current partner and your ex become such good friends. I just love theit scenes together, I wait for them every episode!

I don't mind Michelle. I think that Corrie give her really crap stories, she's just a hang on for Steve and Carla really, and they make her moan all the time and snipe at people. I think that she's supposed to be feisty but comes across and whiney instead. I'd like to see her softer side more and given something else to do. Even when her son was in it he was horrendous. I'd like to see her have another baby or something.

I absolutely love Steve, but honestly he has treated Michelle like crap over the years. If she came on MN she'd definitely be told to ltb.

I agree Owen is horrible to Gary, even though Gary is a loser Owen is equally annoying and a bit of a bully really.

I think Amy is great, she even looks like Steve and Tracy's real daughter. She's much better than the annoying Simon. I don't mind Max, I know it's cruel but Simon is dreadful.

I liked Amy winding Norris up last night - that was fab.

Theshedofalfredogarcia · 30/12/2014 16:05

Yes, Amy is shaping up to be even worse than her Mum.

Tim is brilliant ,I didn't like him at first. He doesn't have much to do with his
daughter though.

Michelle had had a lot of meaty storylines but her acting is so lacking and is the same moaning and roll of the eyes whatever she is playing out.

Owen and Anna are really vile characters and deserve their misery.

Agree that Tim is better sans faye.

I'm also interested to know why liz has tinsel in her fair. I'm mesmerised by it.

Good point about Tim and Faye. Do you think he should have stepped in and offered something when they lost the house? After all he's saving rent by living at Sally's! Even some money for food maybe.

It seems odd that Michelle never mentions Ryan. I know the actor has left the show, but he's still her son (at least her substituted at birth son). Simon seems to have had no Christmas whatsoever. Where is he?

Pyjamaramadrama · 30/12/2014 17:58

Anna is really grating lately. Crap family the lot of them. I think Katy is the worst, she gets on her high horse all the time.

I love Corrie but when you think about it, there are far too many unlikable characters. Has it always been like this? I remember hating David at one time but now he seems like one of the better characters.

Totally agree pyjama.

The switched at birth thing is NEVER mentioned! I think the Corrie scriptwriters were on glue when they thought that up. I can only think of two cases where it actually happened, neither in this country!

Has Simon been with Peter?

Report
mytartanscarf · 30/12/2014 20:54

I think so. I want Peter back, though - he should be with Carla :)

Michelle (well, Kym Marsh) went to my primary school but she was a few years above me.

Yeah David is really good.now. Same with a few, hated them at first but then start to really like them (Tim, Steph, remember hating Becky when she first arrived).

I had forgotten all about the switched at birth thing. Mind then Ryan had his body switched and looked completely different!!

I think they must write stories like that then just realise they are rubbish and hope we all forget. I suspect the same thing will happen with Max's ADHD which seemed only there as a vehicle to lure Kylie back to drugs to enable her mat leave. She could have just gone back to drugs due to stresses and strains of family life. Especially being a member of the Platts. David's epilepsy is never mentioned either.

The best storyline they did which appeared bonkers at first was Hayley as it turned into a beautiful love story. Most of the time you forgot the transaction gender issue but every now and again something would remind you but the focus was always on Hayley as a character.

I've always liked David. As a child he was a funny little actor before he turned evil. Now he seems more balanced again. There are very few characters I don't like but they need good character based writing to enable the people to be the focus rather than daft here today gone tomorrow plots.

(Like Todd's scar I am still waiting for that most awful and hideous facial disfigurement to quietly disapear...)

The Kylie/Max's dad storyline could have been done loads better.

They didn't need to do all the ADHD stuff, Kylie could have easily crossed paths with Callum in a nightclub or on social media or through an old friend. They could have done a domestic violence storyline where she ended up going back to him, or the drugs but they could have dealt with a serious issue well. Callum pestering her to see Max, it could have still led to her exit but all been done a lot smoother.

David is a good actor but I just dislike the character. He speaks to Kylie like crap on his shoe, he is so sarcastic to Gail and Audrey and even Maria. The only people he is nice to are Max and Lily and because of that puts himself in this sort of haloed position of amazing dad.

It really annoys me!

I'm looking forward to Beth and Kirk's wedding Grin. I think that will be a bit of fun.

I'm glad Kylie is gone, I just can't like her, and I never did.
Jazz hands Andrea must have felt SO important, being able to access the taxi firm's bank accounts. Aaaargh.
Couldn't Lloyd have done that even if he is in Spain. Hmm

Report
hildasmuriel · 31/12/2014 12:02

I fear Jazz Hands Andrea will become the ubiquitous character that can do everything and is central to all storylines like St Ella was and Tina became.
