Corrie thread - New thread for the New Year, time for another disaster?

New thread in time for the new year - hopefully this year will see the back of some awful characters.

I would personally like to see the following rounded up and shoved in a deep hole in the Red Rec:

Izzy
Anna
Owen
Gary
Michelle
Tracey-Luv
Gavin
Faye
Yasmeen and her entire extended family
The Community Centre
Kylie
Todd
Steph

That'll do for starters.

I had been thinking of her during the pub scenes. She would have been in there, accepting awards. Grin
I can't believe she is dead, and that we will never see her on the cobbles again. She was always one of my favourite characters. R.I.P Anne / Deirdre.

BringMeTea · 20/01/2015 09:11

Awful, awful news. RIP Anne.

Roussette · 20/01/2015 09:24

Such sad news, Corrie is something I've always watched when I can and I've met Anne and her husband in passing more than once. (I am not a friend of hers but I have close friends who do know her and socialise through a shared interest with her husband). She was a very private person and it comes as no surprise that she treated this dreadful illness with such dignity. My thoughts are with her husband at this difficult time.

eddiemairswife · 20/01/2015 11:27

Just looked at Digital Spy. Rather a poor taste (in the circumstances) trick played by David in a phone message to Kylie.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 20/01/2015 16:02

Of all the characters I would like to see leave the street, Deirdre is one of two that I really never wanted to see the back of. She was an absolute legend.

I know. The tributes have moved me to tears whilst I've been reading them. Nothing mentioned about traceyluv. Kate must be devasted, how long has she played Tracey for?

Roussette · 20/01/2015 16:55

Tracey posted a very moving tweet to her 'screen mummy'. There's been a wonderful outpouring of love everywhere.

squoosh · 20/01/2015 16:57

The original Tracey who was always popping upstairs to 'listen to some tapes' must have known her pretty well too.

Jill2015 · 20/01/2015 17:08

I watched some old clips this afternoon, including the one where the Barlows go to the AA meeting. I laughed just as much as the first time I saw it.

This must be so hard for her family, and all her Corrie friends. I just can't believe we will never see Deirdre gracing the cobbles again.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/01/2015 17:17

Agree Anne, we're always posting lists of people we'd like to see written out, I've never seen Deirdre mentioned.

squoosh · 20/01/2015 17:21

The AA meeting was amazing!

EachandEveryone · 20/01/2015 17:52

I've just shared it on my fb. I was thinking that Deirdre would turn into a great Blanche only the other day Sad

hildasmuriel · 20/01/2015 19:58

How marvelous that Deirdre's last words on the Street was about jelly. 'Jelly isn't supposed to run its supposed to wobble'. Such a Deirdre line. And if Blanche had been there she would have had a witty riposte.

I hope that they come up with a good way of sending off Deirdre in tribute to Anne. Perhaps returning as many old characters as possible. Over the years Anne Kirkbride would have worked with them all.

Southeastdweller · 20/01/2015 20:42

Completely agree, Anne. The character and Anne were key elements of Corrie for me. Like many others, I grew up watching Deirdre - from when she was first got married to Ken - and she always reminded me of my own mum plus I'm just a year older than Tracey who (dare I say it) I identify with in some ways. So I always thought I had a 'connection' to her, iyswim.

There's a tribute to her tomorrow night at the National TV Awards.

Roussette · 20/01/2015 22:03

The best moments ever were Blanche and Deidre together, they were just classic bouncing off each other, Deidre rollong her eyes at what her Mum came out with Grin

Jill2015 · 20/01/2015 23:34

Deirdre trying to rein in Blanche's ability for saying as she saw it... were some of the best comedy moments. Her exasperated 'Mother' and eye roll, to no avail. Grin

AnneEyhtMeyer · 20/01/2015 23:59

Just watched the AA meeting and I was crying with laughter. Blanche and Deirdre were so good together.

The AA meeting is just classic TV. Brilliant stuff.

Eccles is going to be bereft now first losing Blanche then Deirdre. If anything happens to Ken, Eccles, you can come and live with me.

woodhill · 21/01/2015 11:29

I am very sad about Anne's death and it won't be the same. I have grown up watching her since the late 70's.

I loved it at Christmas when Blanche complained about the turkey being dry and Deidre eye rolling.

ExitPursuedByABear · 21/01/2015 13:08

Where are you finding the AA meeting to watch?

Roussette · 21/01/2015 13:53
Hilarious!
squoosh · 21/01/2015 13:55

I had no idea she'd been on Corrie for so long. Since she was a teenager!

EachandEveryone · 21/01/2015 16:54

Theres a live tribute on tonight at the TV awards.

squoosh · 21/01/2015 17:01

'Ken recently had an affair with an actress. She lived on a tug-boat'

Grin Grin Grin

Chipstick10 · 21/01/2015 18:38

Blanche description of Roy and Hayley " he's a loony and she's a man " ??I will never forget that line. Pure gold.
