I cant decide wether oly is alive or dead, wat i dont get is why they showed leon being killed in the start when they havent before, i personally think the throat slitter sold him which is why leon was killed coz he knew something was bring traficked, i think the boy at the end looked as if he remembered something if this is wrong n oly really was killed think it was sick tbh how cud anyone make this with thd ending of a 5 year old being run over thrown in a car terrified hurt then throat cut its sick i get that this stuff really happens but it wasnt the programne i was watching n wat happened to olly runnin through the woods and hiding behind the tree as shown in the spoiler clip? Im unsure

toldmywrath · 17/12/2014 21:09

Just had another thought- In the first episode didn't Sylvie say to Alain "you have to go to your meeting", but in last night's episode he said "the boy will get cold, I'll take his scarf to him"

Moln · 17/12/2014 21:23

Wasn't the meeting earlier in the day and then the scarf thing was later when they were going swimming had to go back to the hotel to get their swimming things?

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/12/2014 21:24

Mayor has grown a beard and a bushy one so I assumed a few weeks /months till they found him

Wedding was a geZebo in the garden as had no money so Prob easy to arrange - tho I got the impression that mark and Emily had split up when they all met at end of episode 7 - don't know why

slyvie must have known that something was up with Alain. He would have come home pissed and Prob guilty looking

Why Alain didn't drive off and leave ollie as a hit and run. Would have made more sense and then no one could have proved it was him
And ollie would be alive

What clip jenna27?

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/12/2014 21:26

Yes meeting was at they checked in - hence we thought meeting was code for small boy and ped

What was Ian doing then? If no ring? Got a bit confused with Vincent tho I assumed it was coz he felt he couldn't change and that's why he killed his self. Tbh I kinda switched off as always do when see suicide via hanging :(

Not sure it was a trailor clip but with more shown on than the majority of us had seen think it was called starz trailor clip but it showed olly runnin through the woods and hiding behind a tree from what looked like a man with a baseball cap on and a women?

Chefpepperjack · 17/12/2014 21:44

Yeah- that Starz trailer clip had Olly hiding behind a tree in the woods

Wasn't that when he was following the fox?
Just re watched last few mins and no patchy hair on Russian boy just reflection of lights.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2014 22:15

Have just watched the finale this evening. Sobbed all the way through the second half. I believe Olly is dead, but bloody hell that was a rollercoaster and a half. So sad and affecting.

jenna27 · 17/12/2014 22:20

Well he had a coat on when he was following the fox and got run over

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 17/12/2014 22:24

Ok yes. Maybe they'll use one of the other endings for US? If it's a starz trailer?

Chefpepperjack · 17/12/2014 22:26

I linked to that starz trailer in another thread- it's gone now Confused
Disappeared- conspiracy!

From those pics it could be him following the fox, but there seemed to be a lot more in the trailer.

jenna27 · 17/12/2014 22:29

Yeh it was the real trailor just an extended one doesnt make sense really

Whoreandpeace · 17/12/2014 22:34

Hi, jumping in here as only just had time to catch up with this thread as have been away from the computer today. I was very disappointed with the ending as I still have too many questions. The main one is the same as Moln - surely the Romanian throat slitter needs to be traced as he would know where the body was buried. Georges would not have done the burying, throat slitter would have done the dirty work. He's still around in the present isn't he? Or have I made a mistake here?

Which then leaves it open as to whether throat slitter did kill Ollie or whether he sold him on. So there is no closure to this story.

And I ask, like others here, WHY RUSSIA? Wish the writers had told us why Tony decided to run around Russia looking for Ollie. It leaves an awkward taste in my mouth, that something isn't quite right.

Another thread which I would like finished off is what did Vincent tell Malik? He went to see him to say 'now I can tell you my story', but that to us as the viewer was a complete waste of time.

The only thing I can add here is that Tony would have been driven mad with guilt that it was on his watch that the child went missing. That thought must drive him to distraction, hence him going mad with grief and refusing to give up home. Awful.

Chefpepperjack · 17/12/2014 22:36

And- Alain tells Sylvie that he is taking the scarf to the English family- I've just re watched it. She was on the phone, so maybe not have heard him, but he waved it under her nose.
How could she not know?

ArsenicStew · 17/12/2014 22:50

I think Sylvie, like a long line of fictional wives before her, was choosing not to 'know', despite shrewd suspicions.

jenna27 · 17/12/2014 22:51

And sivie said i"ll take it" but then said he muttered something doesnt add up n think tony is in russia becoz of what was being transported there (far east) maybe hes been doin his own research

Janus · 17/12/2014 22:53

I cannot see a remarkable resemblance between photofit and Russian boy. I still think it was Tony's madness/obsession that had led him there. It wasn't Ollie.
I agree, Alain was paraletic, his wife must have smelt that on him and the very least it was one of the most important night's the village ever had so all the time he was away drinking and then covering up the body she must have wondered where he was. Surely you would be suspicious of all those missing hours.
Also, PLEASE someone tell me why undercover policeman was killed on platform and by whom???

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 17/12/2014 23:24

Undercover cop working in caid de cite. They were suspicious that he was a cop so fed him info (re a 'package' being sent....child trafficking suspected) when it was clear the info had been passed to baptise (raided the huts) they killed him.

LillianGish · 18/12/2014 06:58

I think the Tony in Russia bit was a way of tying up all the ends and also of keeping the viewer on the edge of their seat til the end. All through the episode I was thinking "but we know Ollie's alive - we've seen him in Russia at the start". Even when we found out what had happened to him I still had some doubts - like Tony, but for different reasons. In the end what happened to Ollie was quite mundane - hit by a drunk driver then killed to cover drunk driver's tracks. It wasn't a complicated plan to kidnap him and spirit him away. Emily manages to accept it and get on with her life. Tony is like us, he can't believe that's all it was and drives himself mad trying to find his son. It wasn't until right at the end that I realised it was him drawing Daddy big ears in the snow. Not really clear why he was in Russia, but I think from his appearance we were meant to gather that he had been following leads all over the place. That's it - Olleh dead, Ian murdered, Vincent hangs himself, Zian murdered, Alain dies of cancer, Mayor shoots himself, Emily lives happily ever after as best she can with Mark, Baptiste finds his daughter, Tony goes mad. I still can't quite work out the point of the journalist - he was a bit of a clumsy red herring with all his "I know what happened" when in fact he knew nothing.

NoTeaForMe · 18/12/2014 08:25

Can someone me what happened after the credits? I didn't see that we were supposed to watch so didn't Sad

Whoreandpeace · 18/12/2014 08:45

Yes, how on earth did that idiot Malik 'know what happened'? He didn't. All he knew was there was a sobriety coin found at the pool. My faith in these writers has gone down the plughole a little bit. Lots of things irrelevant and not tidied up at the end. BBC need to run their dramas through a focus group of MNers next time methinks! I have the same feeling as when I eat something labelled 'chocolate' and it tastes of nothing like. The Americans will hate the ending. I wonder if it is going to air over there. They like 'happy ever after'.

Whoreandpeace · 18/12/2014 08:46

But I think LillianGish is completely right - her whole post is the series in a nutshell!
