Me too. I really hope they are available to do it. Grin at Mayor Olivia.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 17/12/2014 08:42

Yes, webcam with sound for Baptiste please. I still keep replaying that bit of the BBC interview in my head where he says 'beekeeper'. I'm going to France in a couple of months and will have to resist the urge to ask all of them to say 'beekeeper', it's just the best word in a French accent.

pinkfrocks · 17/12/2014 08:54

well can someone explain this then-

when Olly was taken in the boot of the car to 'that' house, he appears to have regained consciousness and was seen on the stairs of the basement- alive.

The camera focused on the empty boot then we saw a boy- alive- on the stairs.

I assumed he had been packed off to Romania as part of a paedophile/ trafficking ring.

So if not what did they do with him?

pinkfrocks · 17/12/2014 08:58

Interesting comments from the Telegraph here...

Deathbed confessions are a hackneyed plot device and to find such an inventive drama relying on one for its denouement really was a surprise. Alain unfolded an unlikely tale of how, drunk, he’d knocked Olly down in a car accident, then inveigled his brother, the examining magistrate on the case (and later mayor), to cover up the crime by inviting a Romanian gangster to get rid of the boy’s body… It was all too unlikely. A complete negation of the abduction story we’d followed for weeks. Then, to compound the insult, things got nasty when we were asked to believe that the Romanian had found the boy alive and well (which is how he came to appear on that video from across the road) but had then killed him anyway. Really?

woodlysmum · 17/12/2014 08:59

Eau- do you have a link to the Baptiste bee keeper interview?

bottleofbeer · 17/12/2014 09:08

Tbh I thought the blood was because the Romanian had abused him and saw a chance to traffic him when he found he was still alive. He told the Mayor he'd killed him to account for the blood.

rebelfor · 17/12/2014 09:10

Was Romanian throat slitter arrested after the attack on Rini?
I actually liked the ending, well done to the poster who correctly guessed about Alain drink driving.

candykane25 · 17/12/2014 09:40

Too many plot devices.

He had to be alive at the house so the abduction storyline could continue.

The blood at the scene must be Ollys if the throat skitter killed him. Surely this would have been known.

The no body thing is just to keep viewers hoping he is still alive.

Too many irrelevant characters and red herrings.

Excellent performances though.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 17/12/2014 09:42

The interview was on BBC breakfast and I don't think they put those on iPlayer. It might be on youtube though.

I was the one that guessed about Alain and it's possible that I'll feel smug about it forever.

SomethingFunny · 17/12/2014 09:46

Well done with the Alain and drink driving.

I am deeply dissatisfied with the ending. Yes, it is probably realistic that you don't know, but that is the whole point of a tv drama - that you DO get to know for definite at the end. If I want real life and not knowing, I can watch the news. It was all a bit wishywashy washy. Is he dead? isn't he dead?

I would also have been happy with the ending if series two was going to continue this same story- Tony convinced Russian boy was Ollie, us thinking is he? Isn't he? Tony keep being prevented from access to him and trying to get Emily re-involved. Ultimately concluding with Russian boy being Ollie. Then you could have had series 3 where you have the whole fall out of that- Ollie with Tony, unable to speak English, Emily wanting Ollie back but now she is with Mark and has James etc etc.

The stick man looked like it was drawn on a high up window to me.

The age enhanced picture of Ollie looks exactly like Russian boy.

Why Russia though? Why not Romania or the Far East? Russia seemed really random.

And... why oh why oh why was Ziane killed by Georges? Georges didn't know he had picked up the coin as he pocketed it and gave it to Malik and then was sent to prison. Ziane had nothing else on Georges or Alain and the only person who knew that he had the coin was Malik and I can't imagine he told Georges? Stupid plot hole.

And also the whole Ian/ Vincent thing including false alibis turning out to be completely irrelevant is annoying. I didn't want Ollie taken by a paedophile gang obviously, but I would have liked a little bit of a tie in- Vincent having seen something and unable to say because he was buying pictures from Iain at the time or something.

And Silvie had to have known- Alain wasn't meant to have been going out, then disappeared for hours to give the scarf back- even if she hadn't been listening about the scarf, surely she'd wonder where he had gone too- and more so with the disappearance of Ollie at exactly the same time he was out (not saying she'd suspect him, but she'd ask him where he'd been in case he'd seen anything). Also I though she said he was dead and the drink killed him?

This is not the ending I wanted/needed. I don't want to watch another long distressing series about another childs abduction which won't conclude and leave me hanging.

Finally, why on tv when people go to Cold places such as Russia do they always have to grow a massive bushy beard??

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/12/2014 09:46

Thanks bof

Eau - well done

So Alain got his medals but didn't deserve them as obv Was drinking Hmm

How the hell in a small town could he got to aa classes and get medals yet then drink booze in the pub?? Hmm

I thought it was Alain too, his behaviour in the brief times we saw him was just odd.

I never thought it was Greg as the dad/James mistaken identity thing. That would have been too far fetched. Never thought it was the parents either and Malik was always an annoying journalist after a story.

I did think Baptiste and Lawrance seemed to accept it quickly and were not at all bothered about finding the romanian. After all Baptiste could probably find him quite easily.

SomethingFunny · 17/12/2014 09:48

Eau- so the whole water connection in the programme was to make us listen to YOU! Xmas Grin

SomethingFunny · 17/12/2014 09:50

Oh yes- the annoyance that the police just seemed to shrug and go "oh, that darned Romanian gang again. Never mind eh? We won't bother to try and find them".

SomethingFunny · 17/12/2014 09:51

I think the storylines put around on here- especially the mistaken identity they meant to take James thing- would have been a much much better story.

Some of you should really try writing novels, they would be brilliant!!

CrapBag · 17/12/2014 09:53

I thought Sylvie knew as well. I just got that impression when Tony was about to tell her. The scarf picture on Facebook seemed much too much of a coincidence.

I didn't think about the mayor killing Ziane thing. No he wouldn't have known what Ziane found, unless Zieg told throat slitting bloke who told the Mayor that Ziane picked something up at the scene?

What did they say on the breakfast interview?

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 17/12/2014 09:55

I got the impression that getting the Romanian gang was an ongoing thing, hence Leon the undercover copper.

Gawd, don't listen to me again. Blind squirrels and nuts spring to mind Grin

Clawdy · 17/12/2014 09:55

I know the Russian boy is described as simply that in the cast list, but as the list is published while the series is running, they would never give his name as Ollie. It would be a major spoiler to the story-line.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 17/12/2014 09:56

X-posts. There wasn't much said on the breakfast interview, it was a few weeks ago so not much had been revealed in the show yet. I think it might have been on thread 2 if you wanted have a search for the date.

OttiliaVonBCup · 17/12/2014 10:01

Russian boy says "Hello. How can I help?" and then "Listen, I don't understand".

That's all.

StockingFullOfCoal · 17/12/2014 10:15

Erm. Well. Awful finale. Great acting poor story. Humph.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/12/2014 10:23

Dreamt of this last night and woke up still being driven slightly mad. I do feel the ending was cruel to us viewers, after manipulating our emotions for 7 solid hours and getting us engaged with the characters, at least we could have had a conclusive ending in the 8th hour. The "He's still alive" at the beginning, followed by the horrible "Oh no he's not" "oh yes he is" "oh no he's dead again". Too traumatic .
I suggest anyone who loved this but found the ending frustrating reads these books "Still Missing" and "Little Boy Lost" from here www.persephonebooks.co.uk Two brilliant books on a similar theme but with conclusive endings.
The most unrealistic things for me were Alain putting Ollie in the boot of his car while Tony was shouting for him. I don't believe anyone would do that, even drunk, I think he would have just driven off. Also he was supposed to be totally pissed, would Sylvie really not notice? And then when George came, surely the first thing he would have done is check that Ollie wasn't just unconcious, as Alain was so sloshed?
Agree deathbed denoument somewhat corny and so many plot lines left hanging. As pp said, WHY would George have Ziane killed? He didn't know about the medal.

bottleofbeer · 17/12/2014 10:28

I noticed on the credits we'd seen the picture of the swing covered in snow which was seen in the Russian scenes. A clue to it really being Ollie and Russia wasn't irrelevant and simply the scene of Tony's demise?

TheMissing2014 · 17/12/2014 10:33

It was ollie at the end look at the police photo.

The missing. Final episode !!!!
SomethingFunny · 17/12/2014 10:38

I have just read the spoilers thread. Emily actress apparently commented that it was odd that people were studying every tiny detail/ speculating about grey haired men at swimming pool etc.

Erm, yes of course... It was a whodunnit. Of course people are going to try and work it out.

Well done Trunchball on the other thread who spotted that Georges walked past Karl Seig as he arrived to clean the house.

And, sorry can't remember posters name, who said Ollie may have left the bar to follow the fox.

And of course Eau, (and anyone else who said it??) that Alain hit Ollie when drunk driving.

And Auntie Stella who clung determinedly onto the Romanian gangs involvement and wasn't sidetracked by the Molly/Vincent/Ollie/Greg theories.
