Ehi, most men in my line of work even "just" 15 yrs ago when I started working had that chauvinist attitude. But I am really really positive about future, because I can see with my own eyes that new generation is better. Girls are even more determined and confident (aka take no shit), but also their partners are actually ACTING differently. Some take part time or flexi working patterns when they start family, they actually participate in those choices, they start from the assumption that it must be shared responsibility. Clearly, girls that "take no shit" choose partners that "are no shit". But it's good. I always had that feeling of "gosh I need to set up an example", but it's not that needed all the times. (I still lose no opportunity to nip in the bud any aberrant behaviour, and they all know I don't care if they've been in the army for 12 or 36 months ;-)
(Some of my worst colleagues were always bragging about their time in the army, when it was conscription...clearly not uk...and got all excited about their surviving experiences that were clearly bullying. No-no...)

icemistOBE · 13/12/2014 21:48

t.co/LfZcmLEpzh another voting thing, but this actually has BA as best actor and LT as best actress, as well as Our Girl for best programme. Only a small company/website. Waiting for the FB group to go on meltdown again Grin

Richtea19 · 13/12/2014 22:02

So sick of the xfactor, just had my tumblr fix of BA, icemist you get credits from other bloggers!!! Legend!

CJ in the hospital bed, deep brown eyes, stubble, chest, messy hair...

icemistOBE · 13/12/2014 22:04

Cuppa coffee and our favourite captain. What more could a girl ask for Wink

icemist if only we lived closer I'd pop over with a bottle of wine, I wouldnt have to watch xfactor and we could lust over CJ! I think I'm going to do a collage of CJ pictures and make a wallpaper for my phone. Don't think anyone will miss me!

Ilovelblue · 13/12/2014 22:12

Richtea not only was the industry I worked in very male dominated, it comprised around 50% Forces or ex-Forces personnel, largely RAF but a number of ex-Army and the occasional Naval person too. It possibly didn't help (not that I am making excuses for the Major in question whatsoever) that I was his PA and as a woman in a traditional female role, he seemed to think it was his God-given right which I presume is how he had been in the Army. I complained and got myself moved and it turned out he had done it several times in the past but nobody had stood up to him. It is most certainly the reason I actually wasn't paying full attention to the first episode of OG (I think I have said this in one of our previous threads). I just had him down as a typical chauvinist - he came across as a very poor leader I thought at that point.

The Flight Lieutenant was so lovely - he went on to fly Jaguars in the first Gulf War in early 1991. The Wing Commander was a pretty decent boss as well (though he was having an affair with his former secretary, but didn't realise I knew). The ex-Air Commodore was quite a gentleman but having been in that exalted position for some years, he did expect everyone to say "how high?" when he shouted "jump". He was the same with everyone though, not just with his female staff. The Major was about 1994/5 I think.

orphan yes, I would abandon my principles for CJ and before 5 pm if necessary! Oh, I am having a hot flush again!

icemistOBE · 13/12/2014 22:22

Just gonna watch all the best bits of ep 5 and then it's bedtime for me.

icemistOBE · 13/12/2014 22:23

I didn't like CJ in the 1st ep and initially wanted her to end up with smurf, but he was so different by the end of ep 2.

Must be hard in a male dominated industry, never experienced it myself.

Ilovelblue · 13/12/2014 22:29

I don't work in the same industry any more, though I have to say I am still in a male dominated industry. A couple of years ago in our building it was roughly 4:1. It's probably 3:1 now but there's much less chauvinism here. Or maybe it's that I won't take any cr*p these days!!

Night night everyone.

orphan · 13/12/2014 22:49

Call me shallow but I'm afraid I liked CJ right from the off, even when he was being horrible to Molly in ep 1. I'd spotted him in the BBC trailers for the series and thought 'Mmm, might have to watch this' despite no interest from the rest of the family. Ended up watching it myself on catch up on my own and the rest is history...Grin

elsie3g · 13/12/2014 23:06

*its not of

elsie3g · 13/12/2014 23:20

I managed not to post my full message, only my caveat! Says it all! In summary..not much our girl time, mucho baking for daughters birthday...

orphan · 13/12/2014 23:28

Wow elsie that's really impressive. You need to join forces with richtea and set up the CJ cake decorating business. Specialising in realistic depictions of key moments in the series, all portrayed in icing.

cjwoofwoof · 13/12/2014 23:30

I have to admit I didn't sit up and take note of CJ until Ep 3 - I know, mental or what? - when he was soooo damned self-conscious and gorgeous in the Rosabaya scene. The great thing was then I could re-watch Eps 1 & 2 and realize what I'd missed. What a numpty! Made up for it since though; I can't get thru the day without a CJ fix now.

cjwoofwoof · 13/12/2014 23:34

Well done elsie above and beyond, I can usually only manage a shop-bought SpongeBob! I'm afraid if I made a CJ themed cake it may involve a large Swiss roll and some low slung icing ballbags

Richtea19 · 13/12/2014 23:37

Brilliant elsie nice sheen to the fondant icing.

Ginger biscuits would be a good medium for making a mini camp Bastian and a fondant figure of CJ with an emphasied bulge of course!

orphan · 13/12/2014 23:39

Well, elsie's Olaf does remind me of CJ's posture in the paddling pool - outspread arms etc. You just need to move the carrot down a bit...

orphan · 13/12/2014 23:51

Hey, SPO has added a new chapter!! And there's clutching of a cutlass!!! Oh spo thank you! (Exclamation mark overload - sorry)

cjwoofwoof · 13/12/2014 23:52

A CJ face cake: faintly bronzed Victoria sandwich, caramel sauce for Afghan grime in liquorice curls, chocolate buttons for those beautifully tasty eyes, luscious halved strawberry lips, marshmallow tongue squeezed between said strawberry halves and hundreds n thousands stubble. All totally edible just like the real thing.

cjwoofwoof · 14/12/2014 00:18

SPO deserves one of our MN special awards for being brilliant. As a holder of the OG or Order of (CJs) Garter, I'd like to formally bestow on SPO the Order of the Molly Garter or OMG for being a f.awesome ff writer. He can choose to remove it without the use of his hands from MDs upper thigh if he so chooses (that's an added perk). Arise SPO OMG!!

apsara03 · 14/12/2014 07:29

SPO you have surpassed yourself - what a treat to wake up too Xmas Grin

icemistOBE · 14/12/2014 07:38
