Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

I wonder if mark is there to investigate the shady dealings of the police. Maybe he wprks for interpol. He seems much more interested in gangs etc than he does yhe Hughes family!

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 03/12/2014 16:52

They don't look alike. TKAM boy is fair/red with blue eyes, so I don't think he could be Olly.

mewkins · 03/12/2014 16:52

I agree... even the titles of the episodes give little away!

Ohmygrood · 03/12/2014 16:58

When I rewatched ep 1 I thought that I saw a figure on the other side of the pool when Tony came out of the bar looking for Ollie. I wonder if Ollie went across to the other side of the pool. Tony didn't look there - he went to the changing rooms.

ssssm · 03/12/2014 17:00

Yes mewkins and FallonColby I want to see what intelligent folks who have nothing better to do have deduced from resources available not insider info - so I don't know if I'm safe to look at spoiler thread?

FayeFruitLoop · 03/12/2014 17:01

Thanks Eau

Ah that killed that theory then.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 03/12/2014 17:07

There's no insider info on the spoiler thread, it's mainly discussion around the new episode titles and cast lists. I haven't seen anything on there that isn't on IMDB or the beeb website. There is an American trailer that has additional footage in (stuff that hasn't been seen in any episodes yet) but it doesn't give anything away.

mewkins · 03/12/2014 17:07

I think it's guaranteed that none of us really know what we are talking about! Hehe. It's fun to pretend we do though! The spoiler thread just includes musings on the cast and the episode titles etc

SolomanDaisy · 03/12/2014 17:09

Fallon, there's no insider info on the spoilers thread. It is just comments on what most people would regard as normal information, mostly released by the BBC. It's not actually spoilers in the widely understood sense.

ssssm · 03/12/2014 17:09

Ah thanks v. much Eau and mewkins, I'll brave a look ;)

BeyondTheTreelights · 03/12/2014 17:22

I wonder if hq could sort out spoiler type things for the telly addicts section, a la digital spy...? Grin

Chefpepperjack · 03/12/2014 18:05

Ok I'm confused
The boy that is being referred to as tkam boy- is that the very first scene?
how can you see that's what he's reading?
And I would describe him as having dark hair, not fair
And is this the family being referred to as the Scottish family? Because none of them sound Scottish?

But it's still not Olly, Tony would recognise him.

SomethingFunny · 03/12/2014 18:05

I think a "spoiler" is anything that hasn't been shown in episodes already seen or that isn't some (wild) theory from someone's mind.

So not actually pointers but extra I for which would include future cast lists, future episode titles, trailers etc. actually cast lists themselves are a bit of a grey area I think. Not sure.

Although the BBC does seem to want to encourage us to read theories more etc.

Chefpepperjack · 03/12/2014 18:07

And I'm not sure what I can say on this thread now!

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 03/12/2014 18:11

Oh sorry, I was going by one photo of him. Yes, his hair does look brown but not as dark as Olleh's and his eyes are blue.

Anything to do with cast lists/characters from future episodes, titles from future episodes, trailers with footage not shown yet, that kind of thing goes on the spoiler thread. This thread is for theories, no matter how mad Grin, based on what we've already seen in the episodes that have been on.

LillianGish · 03/12/2014 18:16

Eau you're right. There's loads of water. Grin
What about the boy in the road with the yellow scarf as they left Challon - was that an hallucination?
Still don't know what was in the drain - but something which provided a huge clue at a glance.
I'm also wondering if the journalist is going provide the answer - he has been waiting to speak to Vincent so now he might have the full facts. I also thinks he is conducting his own investigation because the police are corrupt. Didn't we see Emily meeting him in London in a previous episode - I can't remember the point of her meeting.

funambulist · 03/12/2014 18:25

Emily met Malik to ask him to go and find out what Tony was up to in France. Malik reasonably pointed out that Emily could just ask Tony, but in the end couldn't resist going to France to see what was going on.

funambulist · 03/12/2014 18:53

And I'm pretty sure that all the visions of Ollie are just Emily's hallucinations. She's mistaken James for him, seen him at the poolside, on the bridge and now outside the hotel.

spaghettiarms1 · 03/12/2014 19:08

I agree fun, even the title music suggests that, I see you all the time as if its Emily saying it maybe?

Oh my love, we pray each day
May you come home and be okay
For now we'll wait
For you
For you
To come home

I'll send a pack of cigarettes Hmm
And some chocolates I hope you get
They're for you

Oh my love, I hope real soon
To be at home and get close to you
For now, we'll wait
For some news
For some news
To come home

My mind is always on your side
I see you all the time
With love, for you

Hashtag1 · 03/12/2014 19:57

I have nothing to contribute re theories or spoilers but I was musing today as to what if Ollie was found alive. Would he recognise his parents after 8 years apart? He is 6 when he goes missing, which is the age one of my boys is now. It's an awful thought to think he wouldn't know who we were if he didn't see us for 8 years.

I think that Ollie would remember his parents, even though he is only 5 (probably nearly 6) when he goes missing. I moved house and area when I was, only just, 6 and can remember the children who lived next door (including the names of the older ones that I didn't play with), the people who babysat for me, the name of their pet, the layout of our house and garden and lots of things about my nursery and school.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 03/12/2014 20:44

The spoiler thread is making me nervous now, there are details about what happens in future episodes so I think I will avoid it.

In case people need a reason to keep this thread going Grin :

So at the end, did the reporter say that he knew who killed Ollie, & what Victor told him would confirm it?

Do we think that he will discover that Tony killed Ian?

So the cop who is in prison, it#s for assaulting Baptiste?

We don#t know what was in the envelope that he was trying to retrieve, & only him & the reporter know what was found in the drain?

AuntieStella · 03/12/2014 20:54

I think it's a Swiss Cheese Theory situation. Some possible slices:

a) Caid de Citie - involved in pan-European crime, certainly with activity in Chalons (enough to have staff such as Sieg living there).

b) French police operation to infiltrate Caid - run from Paris and of its nature long running - goes wrong. Leon's first info was disinformation designed to flush out the mole. His murder would have happened when identified as mole, irrespective of what else was going on.
c) but Caid were involved in the abduction (according to Sieg) but we don't know why.
d) Ollie/Tony were not the only British father/son combo in Chalons (Emily conveniently staying in hotel) so could be confused with James/Mark
e) Ian could have links to all sorts of criminality. The only child we know for sure he abused is Molly.
f) Ian had local officials in his pay, but we do not know which of his activities they were involved in.
g) we don't know what branch of police Mark belonged to, why he volunteered, or why the British police kept him there after the first day or so (ie time to choose and send a proper LO). Was there a specific reason connected to his policing expertise? Could he have been investigating Caid?
h) but which coppers are bent?
i) and is there a paedophile ring at all!
j) what is the significance of Charmatiane?
h) how did Malik Suri know Ziane's mobile number? What has he got on him? What is Suri trying to achieve? What is his motivation?
i) what is Tony's job?
j) other than Greg, who else might wish him or his family harm?
k) though of course someone wishing harm to the Hughes might be holding a grudge against Emily
