Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

Ziane said to Malik when they were sitting in the cafe " Or maybe I'll just break your legs" and then went on to break Baptiste's.

Seems he has a bit of a pattern there.

AuntieStella · 03/12/2014 10:28

Could the basement man in the mask be Leon?

Forced to take part, vanished for a couple of days in heroin haze unable to admit what he had done. Finally screwed up courage to come clean, but by then the gang knew they had a mole and were following him to eliminate him?

BeyondTheTreelights · 03/12/2014 10:39

I did wonder last night, why we had at no point thought it might be the journo, kidnapping a child to make a story. He is eeeeevil, after all.

FallonColby · 03/12/2014 10:42

Here's my take on the toys- Malik asks Vincent why after all these years he feels he can tell his story, Vincent smiles and then the shot shows the toys. For years it seemed Vincent tried to avoid children because of how he would react (as in the incident in the fast food outlet) but now that he has had treatment he can be around children without fear of acting on his impulses - hence why he felt he was able to visit Malik knowing there might be small children in the house.

Wellthatsit · 03/12/2014 10:46

Baptiste's moral compass is definitely wobbly (covering up evidence of Tony murdering Ian), so I wouldn't be surprised if he is corrupt, despite how likeable he is.

Heck, even tony is still a sympathetic character, despite being a bully, violent, obsessive (a workaholic, too, before Olleh disappeared.

Whoreandpeace · 03/12/2014 10:51

Wow! Just had a chance to get to the computer and you've left me four pages of musings to catch up on over a cuppa! Thank you for your post, Janus. Now I understand what happened. Am going to watch the last half of Episode 6 again.

Also watched the You Tube promo for next week. Wow! Brilliant to have 8 episodes rather than all done and dusted in 3. Well done BBC! Do we have to watch Episode 1 for Charmartaine character or can one of you clever bods do a screen capture for us?

Dancergirl · 03/12/2014 11:04

This thread is great, I'm a bit behind on the theories, might need to watch the earlier episodes again.

Has anyone noticed a weird purple haze in some scenes? Around doors and walls etc. Maybe it's just my tv playing up but it's spooking me.

SolomanDaisy · 03/12/2014 11:07

I wonder if Ian's tapes are going to become relevant. The police never watched them all, so it is still possible that Olly is on one of them.

rebelfor · 03/12/2014 11:10

Where do people get the impression the police never watched all the tapes from? I don't remember hearing that being said, just the original policeman at the scene saying something like ''we haven't watched them all yet''.

SolomanDaisy · 03/12/2014 11:16

I just assumed they didn't because, after the investigating officers at the scene had watched a few, the mayor instructed the police to cover the tapes up. No one wants to watch child abuse for fun, so I assume no one would have watched tapes they weren't allowed to investigate.

Bakeoffcakes · 03/12/2014 11:17

FayeFruitLoop I thought the same as you about the computer generated picture of "Ollie eight years on". He looked so like Vincent, it really jumped out at me.

rebelfor · 03/12/2014 11:20

I'm not sure with a child missing though that the tapes wouldn't be viewed? Surely Baptiste would be following that line of inquiry if he knew there was a possibility Ollie could be one of the children on the tape?

Although bizarrely, the police in the Fred & Rose West case DID destroy a lot of homemade tapes made by the couple, without watching them all to see if they contained any torture/abuse.

AuntieStella · 03/12/2014 11:30

'I thought the same as you about the computer generated picture of "Ollie eight years on". He looked so like Vincent, it really jumped out at me.'

We do not know what Emily's parents' surname is.

Ohmygrood · 03/12/2014 11:38

I agree with the poster above who has suggested that 'the ugly truth' that Malik is uncovering could actually refer to the ugly truth of the cover up/peadophile ring by the town.
Lots of the cast are turning a blind eye, including the police.

The man who attacked Baptiste was Ziane the cop with the shady secret. He cannot have kidnapped Ollie as he was watching the match in the police station (and was the one who answered the phone when the first call came in, wasn't he?)

Ohmygrood · 03/12/2014 11:47

Yes Ziane and Laurence were both at the station when the call came through and they were then both with the family/at the station after that, so that rules them out of being at the house where Ollie was taken also.

Whoever was wearing the mask in the house was wearing navy converse type shoes with a white rim around the bottom, checked Mark's shoes and it wasn't him.

Zone2mum · 03/12/2014 11:51

Apologies if this has already been suggested, but I am fearing a hideous Marc Dutrou type plot development: because Ian Garret is dead, the boy is not found and whoever else is involved in/ aware of the paedophile ring plot (te mayor, Mrs Garrett?) never dare to go back to wherever he has been hidden. Had Ian not been murdered, perhaps Ollie would have been found alive. Am fervently hopin this isn't the case but the Dutrou case sprang to mind...

Ohmygrood · 03/12/2014 11:55

Yes I think Tony murdering Ollie will be significant and will have consequences for his search for Ollie.

Ohmygrood · 03/12/2014 11:56

I mean Tony murdering Ian not Ollie

skillsandtea · 03/12/2014 11:57

Baptiste telling Tony about his daughter brought a lump to my throat. I really, really love him.

AuntieStella · 03/12/2014 11:58

On the station platform, Leon was wearing dark (black/navy) trainer/converse type shoe with white soles.

AuntieStella · 03/12/2014 12:04

Sorry, red herring, Leon was wearing trainers and although a fairly flat soled pair, they are bit the shoes seen on the stairs.

I'll see if I can see what he was wearing on his first visit to Baptiste (who, oddly I thought, was a bit free in disclosing Leon's undercover role)
