Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

I am totally and utterly confused, but I love it, it's one of the best dramas for a long time, I think Emily and Mark know that Tony killed Ian, I think Mark is holding this over Emily and that is why she is with him, I think Tony may have had a breakdown and that is why he hasn't been around for 8 years, I have no clue really but can't wait until we know what happened, but I don't think it's going to end with Ollie being found alive

Great thread by the way

funambulist · 01/12/2014 10:44

LillianGish I think Tony starts looking again because Sylvie posts a photo on Facebook of someone wearing Ollie's scarf.

EauRouge · 01/12/2014 11:03

ASsuming the hoteliers are involved, did Sylvie post that photo deliberately to get Tony to start searching again? And if so, why?

Because her DH was involved and she had to wait until he died!! She always felt guilty but was being controlled by her husband.

We have it! Grin

mewkins · 01/12/2014 12:35

Is Sylvie's husband dead now? I missed that!

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 01/12/2014 12:44

I think it was in the first episode. Not sure if it was mentioned when Sylvie spoke about his death, but I think he was an alcoholic.

Good theory, Crapbag , I think we're starting to tie up all the loose ends now Grin

LatinForTelly · 01/12/2014 12:57

Just getting onto this thread. Sorry, I have no theories - I can only (just about) keep up with who's who in which time period.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 01/12/2014 13:02

Anyone want to pick apart this interview for clues?

“All we can say is that this [series] will have closure to it,”

“I hope people do enjoy the ending. I think it’s very true to the very first hour that you see.”

Very interesting Grin No spoilers in the interview is anyone is worried.

mewkins · 01/12/2014 13:22

Hmm...the very first hour.... what does he mean????? I guess it means all the paedophile ring stuff that kicks off in the second episode IS a bit of a red herring.

mewkins · 01/12/2014 13:24

Thanks Eau. Hmmm an alcoholic? I can't help but think that the hoteliers know things and are perhaps trying to protect children somehow? I still think the name Hotel Eden must have significance.

FallonColby · 01/12/2014 13:51

mewkins I've always thought that whatever happened to Ollie didn't involve a paedophile ring. I think the only reason Ian got involved was so he could get close to the investigation and make sure the truth didn't get out about what he was involved in.

FallonColby · 01/12/2014 13:52

Yes, Slyvie said it was the drink that made Alain sick.

Clawdy · 01/12/2014 16:55

Bit strange that they are talking hopefully about a second series. After eight episodes we will certainly be wanting "closure" ! I will be very unhappy if we're left with an unsatisfactory loose-end final episode, trying to hint at another series.

LineRunner · 01/12/2014 17:05

The second series could have Baptiste and Tony running a missing persons detective agency.

reem1 · 01/12/2014 17:16

Is Alain dead? Didn't we see him in one of the "present" episodes sitting in the bar looking drunk (I think it was an episode when Tony and Julien met in the bar and they had to leave because Tony started arguing)???
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought it was Alain.

I always assumed that Alain sickness was alcoholism, and even thought that the meeting he was going to in the first episode was AA meeting.

ArsenicSoup · 01/12/2014 17:18

I can't help but think that the hoteliers know things and are perhaps trying to protect children somehow?

Or quite the reverse.

Shades of Elm Guest House scandal?

And re the issue of who knew Tony & Ollie were going swimming, (there was some discussion upthread about the possibility Emily and Tony were overheard in the cafe) well the hoteliers would have seen them come back, collect swimming stuff and leave again.

Something about the TV in the hotel room that didn't work in 2006 and still doesn't work now is bugging me too.

ArsenicSoup · 01/12/2014 17:23

The second series could have Baptiste and Tony running a missing persons detective agency.

Fabulous. Tony constantly kicking off and yelling at witnesses; Baptiste intervening with his clever approach and smouldering Gallic diplomacy Smile

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 01/12/2014 17:26

The second series could have Baptiste reading the phone book, as long as he's in it Grin

Ohmygrood · 01/12/2014 17:32

Arsenic soup - the TV must be a clue. Could some key evidence have been hidden inside ? That would make his parents suspects.

AuntieStella · 01/12/2014 17:33

As long as he looks like the 2014 Julien Grin

The episode 1 - ie that first hour to which the ending will be true - is no longer on iplayer.

Wellthatsit · 01/12/2014 17:54

Surely the TV isn't a clue. We must be reading too much into it. I like crapbag's theory about Sylvie, though.

BTW, crapbag, your user name makes me laugh - love it!

Or Tony murdering anyone who might be a suspect and Baptiste cleaning up the mess
