Oh I didn't see that one icemist...might gonna need to take another look (and bleach my eyes afterwards!).

I think TG would take us in good humour...that's if he isn't on here already yes SPO I am looking at you and your checked shirt suspiciously lol but tweeting the head of the BBC is way way beyond the realms of enjoying the show!

elsie3g · 13/11/2014 18:36

Hi all, I've been keeping up with all your shenanigans! You lot are hilarious! Grin

I've got a quick question for anyone with the DVD (I'm watching via iTunes). Is there anything interesting said in the 'making of' documentary? Had a look online but nothing's coming back. I think somewhere mentioned they spoke about how the casting happened...but I'm also interested in the sequence of filming. I guess watching it you get sucked in thinking the events happen in the sequence they are portrayed in the story, but I guess in real life loads of it will be shot out of sequence. It's kinda nice to think of the characters starting to like each other through the various events in the plot. But in reality the actors will be skipping about all over the place...

Anyway...just thinking out loud

ihearttc · 13/11/2014 18:42

I think Bath was filmed after Afghan...Tony Grounds confirmed that in Twitter but I'm not sure about anything else. We could probably work it out from their tans!

icemist · 13/11/2014 18:43

I've only watched it once - but they said as soon as they met with Iwan they knew he was Smurf and that the chemistry between BA and LT was there from the start.
i might watch it later and do a summary for those who haven't got dvd

icemist · 13/11/2014 18:47

Yes Afghan all done 1st UK bits afterwards. TG confirmed that to me in a tweet (no need to send daft photos)

Richtea19 · 13/11/2014 18:48

Oh yes, Stag in watch tower will he have a rifle over his shoulder? The micro phone one would be fun too, with the addition of Molly the Doe, in MonoPods combats?! Was she a Doe ? I can't remember.

Icemist, those tweets are dreadful, cringey (not sure if that's a word?)

Personally I think TG would enjoy our threads, all glad we are all anonymous! Reading right for the beginning it would give him ideas format least few more seasons of OG and a few spin offs!

icemist · 13/11/2014 18:53

was Molly a doe or a hare or spaniel (like lady and tramp)

OP posts:
Richtea19 · 13/11/2014 18:55

Oh yes a Spaniel, soft curly hair, big eyes and a soft mouth (gun dog!)

cherin · 13/11/2014 19:08

But smurf would definitely be a Smurf ;-)

cherin · 13/11/2014 19:10

Come on ladies (and gent), feel free to contribute! I am sure you can draw, too (not that I can draw, really! That would be presumptuous!)
And then we can send our drawings to the BBC/TG to show our appreciation (anonymously, because really, we'd get social services before the day is out!!!)

Richtea19 · 13/11/2014 19:14

What sort of smurf? Didn't they have names, all I can remember is Pappa Smurf. Will google. My drawing is terrible, it would have to have arrows pointing and explaining, but would give it a go!

cherin · 13/11/2014 19:20

I used to know plenty of smurfs, but have different names, in English. But DS has a nice book i can peruse (he would be...Jokes Smurf! The one that always plays pranks, usually with exploding boxes- IED ;-)

You also have to help me to devise a plot to make the story of Nora Baker/noor known to the larger public. Shall we draft a storyboard and pitch it to some production companies? How is it done in RL?
(I can put my face to it. I feel in-fucking-volved!)

Richtea19 · 13/11/2014 19:24

Army smurf

Capital!!

elsie3g · 13/11/2014 19:30

thank for the info guys...

icemist - if you can be bothered that would be great

Rhubarb01 · 13/11/2014 19:39

Cherin re: Noor Inayat Khan I agree that she'd make a great story. I don't know how this is done in RL - someone else must have a better idea - but your options are probably either write your own screenplay/script and submit it directly to something like the BBC via the BBC Writers Room or else as you say, get some other production company interested enough to appoint an experienced writer to produce a script, although don't the major channels tend to commission production companies to make on their behalf? As for a film, goodness, it could take years - well both would probably take years. Even well known writers/actors and directors sometimes struggle to get anyone interested in making films etc. Perhaps researching writers who have written these types of screenplays in the past and seeing if you can interest anyone in the story is an option. I'm sure someone else must have some more useful advice.

Richtea19 · 13/11/2014 19:42

Cherin, I have just read your Wikipedia link to Noor Inayat Khan fascinating story, I had never heard of her. Would be a great film. Very sad.

SPOfficer · 13/11/2014 20:06

Evening all! Wow might gonna need to start another thread soon!

Nickel45 thanks for the link. What a good advert. I remember last years Sainsburys add was a bit of a tear jerker as well. It is on u tube but have no idea how to post the link. Well worth a look if you didn't see it.

My drawing is worse than my CJ impressions but I am ready to have a go for the good of the thread! You are being far too modest Cherin about your skills!

iheart any resemblance to a shirt that may have been worn by a certain actor on a certain television programme is purely coincidental unfortunately.

I have not seen the FB page but have no trouble in believing that this is better. Constantly delighted at what I find here when I log in. Long may we continue!

monopod · 13/11/2014 20:14

I can't keep up with this thread! Molly is quite firmly a doe and not a spaniel for me, because I think they have to be the same species and I think we are now too invested in CJ as a stag...

Anyway, you are all kidding yourselves about not being obsessed because we are the epitome of the word! Haha. Our saving graces are that our attentions are (mostly, ignoring carol concert stalking) focused on fictional characters Grin I love the balance of discussion, actually - love the way we segue from serious discussion about the themes of the show and its characterisations to the sublime ability to appreciate the absurd and the surreal Grin

My contribution today to how many OGisms we can squeeze into one day is that I got DH to buy me Coco Pops, after having suggested to him that as part of my Christmas present I'd like him to dip his spoon in my Coco Pops. I am quite touched but can't help feeling that maybe he misunderstood my point... Still, not going to say no to a bowlful tomorrow morning!

PassTheSherry · 13/11/2014 20:14

Hi all - catching up after a busy day - not joined the FB group, happy wombling about here amongst my fellow comrades. I am not really into the idea of haranguing the programme makers into a second series just for the sake of ogling BA - I enjoyed OG too much for that! Would love to see more of CJ and Molly but not at the expense of the writing and the show's integrity. So if they decide not to, I'd respect that decision. Quality comes first - better for everyone. And...I don't know...his friends must be immensely proud of him, but I'm sure he would be quite capable of looking up all these posts etc himself should he be so inclined! She has, however managed to make a lot of women green with envy I should think! School friend and Skype buddy indeed. Pah! Grin

I would love to contribute a drawing but have neither the patience nor the imagination. Will stick to pics for now - here's a couple of Molly whose gorgeousness is underrepresented (except by SPO of course!) and of course more on CJ. I love the bit where he looks down at their hands, and goes all serious, during the Rosabaya scene

This is the first chance I've had to respond today though I've been able to dip in and out occasionally to keep abreast of current themes!

I have been thinking about SPO's exam paper of the day about CJ's good and bad management skills. I can't really add anything more eloquent than Pixie and Rhubarb did but can I say as I think I've commented before that in a past life, I have worked with ex-RAF officers and the MoD. The latter were made up of both serving and ex-serving Forces' staff. I remember going on an MoD course and being the only woman on it and was there for a whole week. I was made to feel very much the outsider and the course leaders - all men - were incredibly chauvinistic. I hated it and was completely miserable. When I first watched episode one of OG, CJ's attitude towards Molly physically made me cringe and in fact I almost switched it off as it reminded me so much of that horrible week. I know we've analysed CJ's attitude in every last detail and of course, I am as obsessive as the rest of you now, but truly, CJ's attitude in that episode was so typical of those Forces' folk.

Sorry to ramble!

Ilovelblue · 13/11/2014 20:34

Anyway, ladies and SPO, I have a request for you all! I have to have a minor procedure done in hospital next Wednesday and need a couple of days off work afterwards to recuperate. (Last time, the consultant said "You need to think of something very nice" as he shoved a massive needle in my shoulder. Obviously, I thought of CJ/BA!! Anyway, I have to have the same thing done again so need to make sure this thread (or probably volume IV by then) is still up and running to keep me going if I am feeling sorry for myself! I will adore you for always, that goes without saying!! I have just bought the first Our Girl DVD from eBay and already have the DVD of the series, so can be completely justified in having a self-indulgent Our Girl fest for two whole days and checking in here on a regular basis too.

icemist · 13/11/2014 20:38

I'm pretty sure we'll be on V by then Grin unless BA has taken legal steps to stop us

Hope procedure goes well.

Just got seen this link on FB, posted by a friend.

Letters home from Afghan by a teenager who served there. Made me cry..

monopod · 13/11/2014 20:49

Ilovelblue - really interesting! I think we discussed in an earlier thread whether the show was a good or bad thing with regard to portrayal and opinion about women in the forces. She certainly changes the opinions that the characters hold about women, in a good way.

Good and bad management skills - been musing on how translatable he would be as a leader/manager to a non-Army context where the authoritarian style would not be quite as appropriate. He's clearly a leader who inspires loyalty and devotion, and tries to lead by example. He's accessible, yet respected. He cares about the soldiers in his charge. Agree that his attitude to Molly was actively unhelpful in the beginning but wonder how much of that is endemic in that environment and if there would have been similar treatment for a male soldier who had 'stepped out of line'. But he admits he was wrong, and changes. That's a sign of a good manager too.

Sorry, thoughts rather fragmented.
