enrique The clients DO have a say in the 'mood board' that they get shown at the start, maybe that's why they're not allowed to comment don't seem to say anything at the end. Grin

Grin Well, I know they orsaythey do have a consultation before the design's started and they get shown the mood board but often I think it's pretty much a fait accompli regardless. The guy really didn't seem keen on the wallpaper yesterday but he was getting it come what may whichever way it was applied. There have been plenty where the reception seems to have been lukewarm to say the least and you can just tell that it wouldn't happen in a real design process and consultation. Another one that instantly springs to mind is the beach hut with all the yellow and the lighthouse theme. I often imagine the home owner not seeing the back of the team quickly enough before they start rejigging the schemes Grin

Yes IKWYM. It makes me laugh when Sophie says that the contestant should listen to the client. But she goes on to criticise; saying something like "Oh the contestant should stick to their vision". When they've actually CHANGED something for the clients' sake.

So you can't win either way Hmm Confused!!

hollyisalovelyname · 14/11/2014 22:02

I love it.

hollyisalovelyname · 14/11/2014 22:07

Did swebb ever come back and tell us what 99.95 percent of interior design IS about.... if curtains and cushions are only 0.05 percent.

panaxginsen · 15/11/2014 20:55

A great interview with Jordan, finalist from the first season of the Great British Design Challenge!

I thought the three designers made a dog's dinner of the Ealing Village design challenge. I'd hate all the rooms.
I thought the eco homes interior designs weren't great either.... It looks like a really interesting place to
live. Where is it?
Some of the contestants own homes are very nice and I can see why they entered.
I thought the Australian lady's own home was lovely ( what I could see of it). I'd employ her as an interior designer.

mausmaus · 16/11/2014 10:58

I would love them to make over my front room.

but I hate

  • feature wall
  • dark or bold wall colours
  • painted floorboards (they never look nice imo)
  • patterened wall paper
  • impractical stuff
mausmaus · 16/11/2014 11:22

oh and

  • shabby shique (sp?)
  • decoupage
Cocolepew · 16/11/2014 12:07

You're best of doing it yourself then maus, or you'd end up with all those things in your room.
Grin

insancerre · 16/11/2014 12:28

I would hate any of them to come anywhere near any of my rooms
Its bad enough having to let dh have a say in decorating never mind a stranger
I really couldnt cope

ppeatfruit · 16/11/2014 12:55

Thanks for the link panax TBH like maus I 'd hate any of those interior designers any where near my house!!!!

What I hate is that crappy "oh it's soooo yesterday" Two fingers to that sort of nonsense!!!! I HAVE WHAT I LIKE .

Rant over Grin

mausmaus · 16/11/2014 13:11

especially when said by the judges in those hideous bright tights and trousers... can't trust anyone near my living room dressed like that Shock :o

ppeatfruit · 16/11/2014 13:21

oooh I just remembered the worst thing they say (to be fair it's the contestants not the judges) ;

"I'll give it a 'pop' of colour" AAAAAAAAAHHHHH Angry The fashion journalists say it too.

I don't know why it annoys me so much Grin

Selks · 16/11/2014 17:35

Yes 'pop' of colour drives me potty as well.. so over-used and usually used to describe something ghastly, like that purple and orange sun ray paint-effected chimney breast that featured in one episode...Confused

ppeatfruit · 17/11/2014 11:12

True Selks . IMO it's to try to pretend that the hideous purple or grey or dull green wall won't make the homeowner splash a pot pf white paint over the whole room as soon as the 'designers' go!!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 18/11/2014 19:06

Evening all. Oast houses tonight

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 18/11/2014 19:08

"Compact" = poky

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 18/11/2014 19:10

I like the little boy's space room as it is Confused

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 18/11/2014 19:16

Kate's looks like a page from the GLTC catalogue

BOFster · 18/11/2014 19:37

I love how they refer to "the other designers" rather than contestants. Swebb would have a shitfit Grin. Come on Swebb, you were fun- come back!

bambinibop · 18/11/2014 19:39

I'm a bit behind. It's sweepy hair guy!

BOFster · 18/11/2014 19:41

They are really cutting it fine with the timings. I'd be throwing a right tantrum by now Grin

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 18/11/2014 19:42

More balls on the floor than in the bag
