Ppeat we certainly will wait until the warmer weather arrives. Our house seems to be full of holes at the moment (full re wire and new plumbing and heating system). It looks like Swiss cheese! Certainly creating more chaos before Christmas is the last thing on our minds but we will probably have a go in the summer Smile

catwith tap on the wall above the hearth (and around it) first to hear if there's a hole there. But if there is, it's maybe best to wait till warmer weather to take the hammer to it and 'open it' Smile

Yes! Unanimous vote from DH and I who are both to chicken to take a hammer to ours

Ooh our electrician discovered a hearth underneath the carpet in one of the kids' rooms yesterday with what could very possibly be an original Victorian fireplace hidden behind a wall. Should we take a hammer to it?

It sounds lovely! I've been eyeing up the arts deco monstrosity in our fireplace ever since the episode where they ripped out the tiled fireplace to reveal half an original beneath it. I need Wayne to come and chip it away for me! Maybe Piglet John scared him off his turf Grin

Tell me about it Fox I got all excited when they said that they were decorating a castle because we've got a 16thC. house made of old castle stones and it's permanently in need of stuff doing to it. Ours has stone walls inside though ( I wonder what the contestants would make of them Grin) some of them covered ruined by crepi a type of concrete wood chip .

FoxSticks · 04/12/2014 08:26

Yes please, come back Wayne! I have an ramshackle Victorian house that needs loads doing to it!

Report
ppeatfruit · 04/12/2014 07:53

The voiceover said that both contestants were allowed to have 'help' from their families or whoever so some of them weren't actual builders, no one could redecorate 3 rooms in 4 days otherwise (even with a couple of real builders).

Yes I think he was Fox.
I need a bit of work done if you're lurking nice builder Smile

I was pleased Martin won, wasn't his lovely builder (the one with glasses) the same builder who randomly appeared on this thread early on then disappeared? He claimed to be one of the builders from the beach huts, made a couple of comments then buggered off again.

Oh what a shame, I would have booked Mr Lovely Decorator Grin. Glad he's got such a supportive partner though.

Yes R4roger I was wondering how he fixed that half table to the mirror, was it super glue? Grin As you say, I think his design wasn't child friendly enough.

R4roger · 03/12/2014 12:43

exactly, Fiona was unbelievable calm wasnt she. and i loved her rooms. although i grudgingly admit to liking his too, apart from the sitting room colour scheme. i liked the mirror and half table, I hope the children dont break it!

Yes LOL he was his partner Grin !! I reckon that for people and organisational skills alone, Fiona should've won.

Though I'm not sure that living with a dark blue kitchen would've pleased me. I liked the wallpaper she used in the sitting room.

Wasn't Martin's decorator a sweetheart? Calming him down when he was getting all hissy about the mirrored wardrobes Grin

did you see in fiona's kitchen the man had about 7 Fray Bentos tins Shock

Report
R4roger · 03/12/2014 07:23

i was sad it was not fiona, although martin had some good design tricks

catwithflowers · 03/12/2014 07:18

How unfair, though, that Fiona lost so much time by having to clear out that nightmare of a kitchen. How on earth would her client have kept anything even remotely clean with all that clutter? Just bonkers!

BOFster · 02/12/2014 23:38

I liked both of them. I agree that Martin should have won- Fiona's fatal error was the dado rail.

I really thought Fiona would win ! I guess because Martin designed more of his own products. ..

I agree, Fiona should have won. Martins, kitchen was lovely, though much smaller than Fionas and he didn't finish the bedroom.
