anyone else looking forward to the 3rd series? has been a great run up to Christmas for the past couple of years!

OP posts:
diddl · 12/01/2015 13:24

I mean ideally, they should have had DNA tests.

But Alan admitted to the affair, Gary's aunt said that it was him, do you ask for testing in case she was seeing someone else as well?

Alan is too much of a gent for that!

Gillian was married to Robbie's brother, wasn't she?

harrietspy · 12/01/2015 13:26

I don't think Gary's wife would be talking about being with a woman 'next time' unless there was some dramatic mileage to be exploited, and I cite the rule of Chekhov's gun to support my thesis. Grin ("Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there.") Same applies to the unresolved issues around Eddie's death.

If you've seen the BBC iPlayer promo photo, you'll know who's died. Sad

wowfudge · 12/01/2015 15:31

I've just realised something and, unless I am very much mistaken, I think I now know who killed Gillian's husband. Remember how the finger was pointed at her in the first series? Pretty sure we haven't known of anyone being convicted for his murder.

Tigresswoods · 12/01/2015 15:36

Didn't Gillian kill her husband by not helping him to live...?

diddl · 12/01/2015 15:37

Didn't he try to kill himself, & Gillian didn't get help, but let him die?

wowfudge · 12/01/2015 15:37

Hmm - who whacked him with the axe though? 'I've wanted to marry you since I were sixteen.'

wowfudge · 12/01/2015 15:38

Come on - it was a massive head injury involving an axe. Self-inflicted? Really?

Harrietspy · 12/01/2015 15:39

It was ruled as a suicide, from what I remember. Robbie pointed the finger at Gillian at the time as he suspected her involvement. Alan confided in Celia that he thought Gillian might have finished him off, but all we know is that- as pp said -- Gillian confessed that she didn't get help.

wowfudge · 12/01/2015 15:41

Smokescreen - it was Robbie. Gillian rebuffed him so he pointed the finger at her.

Harrietspy · 12/01/2015 15:46

It was a log splitter, not an axe, so it could be self-inflicted. Yeuch.

I wondered about her son, even though he was only seven. All we know is that she says she found Eddie half-dead in the barn, so I guess Robbie could have done it... Not convinced, but given that everyone has a secret, maybe that's his. Grin

wowfudge · 12/01/2015 15:52

The more I think about, the more it makes sense that it was him. Especially if he's been carrying a torch for years and knew Eddie was a bastard to Gillian. Gillian may even know or suspect it was Robbie.

diddl · 12/01/2015 15:53

So do we think that the father will be after Kate & Caroline's baby, or that Gary & his wife will be involved somehow?

Do they have children?

pinkfrocks · 12/01/2015 15:55

But Gilian confessed ages back in series 2 that she'd killed him off- she said this when she was drunk though can't recall who to.

pinkfrocks · 12/01/2015 15:56

It was also clear that Kate was going to die: the scene was set- her taking the boys to the train by CAR, lingering loving looks and Caroline 'as happy as she'd ever been.' I told DH that the next scene would be a policeman at the door. It was obvious.

wowfudge · 12/01/2015 15:58

I think she said she finished him off - as him letting him die/smothering kind of thing.

Anyway someone up thread said Caroline will have no rights to the new baby. She's married to Kate though, so how can that be the case?

diddl · 12/01/2015 15:59

She confided to Caroline.

And then Alan told Celia that he colluded with Gillian not to call an ambulance, I think.

Did Alan suspect that Gillian had killed him?

wowfudge · 12/01/2015 16:09

I'm pretty sure Gillian found Eddie injured but did nothing to help. She felt guilty for that, but it doesn't make her a killer. That was what she confessed to.

Still not enough about Gary though - don't know what the story is there.

Isn't John a horrible, slimy toad? Yuck.

Harrietspy · 12/01/2015 16:25

Gillian said she killed Eddie, BUT then qualified it by saying she as good as killed him as she didn't call the ambulance. I think it was when she and Caroline got pissed together. She was definitely holding something back, though, and Alan knows it.

John is vile. Not pantomime-villain vile, but believably vile. Fantastically acted, like all of it.

At least if we have no more Nina Sosanya on LTIH, we can watch her in W1A. Wil be really crap if they've killed her off, though. Would have been lovely to have a happy lesbian couple on telly for a bit.

Ellenora5 · 12/01/2015 16:32

What on earth happened Shock is Kate really dead

I've been sick and had an early night last night, thought I had it on series link but apparently not (I'm blaming the eldest for that by the way) bet he was messing around with it

Raging I missed it Sad

wowfudge · 12/01/2015 16:56

I put most things I like to watch on series record as, apart from anything else, I have a habit of nodding off - however brilliant the programme is!

John - yuck and double yuck - Gillian had the measure of him. I found myself thinking much more sympathetically of his ex last night. I would quite like Robbie to punch the vile git. I bet John tries to sabotage things between Gillian and Robbie, which would give him the chance.

myfallingstar · 12/01/2015 21:49

I won't be watching any more in 3 episodes they have had a death of a baby and death of a wife and a long lost brother more corrie than drama I could see that Katie was going to be killed form the off shocking a seconded series that didn't need to be made

Also broad church. Watching it thinking this didn't need to be made they should have started at sand Brooke and and ended with the guy in board church

wowfudge · 12/01/2015 22:47

Death of a baby??

ZeroFunDame · 12/01/2015 22:57

Remember John's drunken girlfriend wow?

wowfudge · 13/01/2015 00:05

Yes - it was spoken about though. I still think it's a great serial.

iamEarthymama · 13/01/2015 00:25

I talked about this on FB yesterday.
It was always the way of things back in the day. The queer iwasalways other and was more often than not punished.
I had hoped this had changed but hey ho, same old, same old.

I am very disappointed that we didn't get the chance to see a lesbian relationship as 'ordinary', part of everyday life.
I probably won't watch again.
