Corrie thread - still no sign of Cilla or Fat Brenda but Kim Tate on the horizon

Here we are again - a brand new thread for more Corrie ramblings.

Can't believe Cilla still hadn't turned up by the end of the last thread.

Still hoping for an enormous cast-cull. Hoping for a bomb / gas explosion / serial killer / all of the previous.

They need to do with Simon that thing they sometimes do with child actors - i.e not show them for a few months and then quietly replace them with a pro.

The existing Simon is awful.

Agree. Or just send him off with Peter, in due course, and forget about him. He seems to just have a default switch, to clutch at whatever adult is around, moan, and bury his head. The evening he was at Tina's grave, he did it with Rob, the evening Amy was pretending the dog bit her, he did it with Deirdre. Mind you, Deirdre peeled him off quick smart to go and check if Eccles was okay. Grin

ProfYaffle · 21/10/2014 11:39

different, "yes" is the short answer to that!

GaryShitpeas · 21/10/2014 11:42

Simon is awful

I'm bored with corrie ATM I used to love it Sad

squoosh · 21/10/2014 11:45

Simon is like some miserable little gnome. Give him a fishing rod and stick him in a garden somewhere.

Nancy66 · 21/10/2014 11:59

ha ha - he does look like a gnome.

'It's not fair, it's not fair. I hate you.'

is pretty much all Simon ever gets to say.

theliverpoolone · 21/10/2014 12:59

What was Simon on about last night in the café, saying "she used to go out with him" about Leanne and Peter? She was married to him, which is why she became his step-mum - have they forgotten?!

Pyjamaramadrama · 21/10/2014 15:43

I was just going to say that I was surprised to see Fiz and Gail showing such a lack of empathy after they were wrongly convicted but someone's already said it.

I agree with what everyone's saying about all the storylines, although I'm quite enjoying Liz and Tony.

squoosh · 21/10/2014 15:48

I'd forgotten how many jailbirds there were on Coronation St!

Nancy66 · 21/10/2014 15:57

loads of the cast are up the duff at the moment and having to employ the cunning giant-bag-worn-across-the-body disguise: Eva, Kylie, Fizz...

impomea · 21/10/2014 15:59

Yes , but it's no wonder Si is miserable wouldn't you all be if every week you had a different parents and a different home? Smile Eccles is the only consistent thing in that child's life [sob] [sob].

Pastamancer · 21/10/2014 16:00

Steve, Rob, Gail, Fiz, Deirdre, Tracey, Kevin, Gary, David. I'm sure there are probably more

Camolips · 21/10/2014 16:08

I can't believe that half the street are saying that Liz should apologise to Tony. He was being a chauvinistic arsehole so she basically told him to piss off. Hopefully she won't take him back without a profuse apology and a promise to show her a bit more respect.

eddiemairswife · 21/10/2014 16:16

Simon has had so many 'parents' it's no wonder he clutches the nearest adult when he is upset; his mother, Peter, Leanne, Nick, Carla, Kal .... and Tina then Maddy as people who understood him. The only consistency has been Ken and Deirdre, his grandparents. What about his mother's family? Are none of them around? The problem with Simon is the same as with Chesney ..... a personable and engaging child actor who doesn't seem quite so cute as he grows older.

squoosh · 21/10/2014 16:18

Maybe all his parents just find him really annoying.

Nancy66 · 21/10/2014 16:23

didn't his other set of grandparents feature a few years ago - they had money and wanted to send him to a posh school.

Then they were never seen again.

impomea · 21/10/2014 16:35

hildasmuriel · 21/10/2014 17:03

I wonder if Simon would be ok if he didn't have such miserable storylines. I seem to remember him being a cheeky chappy.

His other grandparents were in it and tried to snatch him or something. Never been heard of since.

The number of jailbirds is so true and not only in their acting role

Jill I like your idea about Roy befriending one of the yobs. That would be so Roy and a positive storyline.

Nancy the Weatherfield big bag shop must be doing a roaring trade.

BastardGoDarkly · 21/10/2014 23:05

Sorry, just catching up, but did Ken and 'our' Tracy do a big shop in devs?! Madness.

hildasmuriel · 22/10/2014 08:19

Nobody goes to Freshco anymore, must be a victim of the recession and shut down. Bet Dev's prices are extortionate. Bring back Bettabuys.

Jill2015 · 22/10/2014 09:30

True re Dev's, if it is anything like my nearest shop, it's rip off central!
I was watching old episodes recently, with Curly and Reg, those were the days!

BastardGoDarkly · 22/10/2014 09:54

Oh I always found Reg really creepy, much prefer Norris! :)

So, how's Rob going to get busted? Or is that it?

pinkandstripey · 22/10/2014 10:35

You see Carl asking rob if he did it in the trailer, so I guess she figures it out. He asked tracy to lie for him about where they were at the time, cos she was with Tony. Carla already thinks it's weird what he was saying to Simon, so it's not a massive leap for her.

hildasmuriel · 22/10/2014 10:36

My favourite nosey male busybody type was Percy Sugden, I loved the dynamic between him and Phyllis. I did enjoy Reg too. I think a lot of the old cantankerous characters have been the best. Loved Maud Grimes and who, of course, could forget Blanched. End Sharples I only just remember but it seems she set the standard for these characters. Following the departure of Blanche we are missing a female such character. Mary fulfills parts but is too vulnerable not nearly cantankerous enough.

hildasmuriel · 22/10/2014 10:39

Wouldn't Carla immediately grass him up? She's forgiven him an awful lot, it's not that long ago that he totally tried to rip her off, but murder? Even of your husband's girlfriend? You just wouldn't. Plus I think she still loves Peter and couldn't see him in prison for a crime he didn't do. Carla is basically decent.

BastardGoDarkly · 22/10/2014 11:11

I don't think they let miscarriages of justice stand anyway do they?

Carla will figure it out then, but Peter's leaving the soap isn't he?
