Corrie thread - still no sign of Cilla or Fat Brenda but Kim Tate on the horizon

AnneEyhtMeyer · 13/10/2014 17:13

Here we are again - a brand new thread for more Corrie ramblings.

Can't believe Cilla still hadn't turned up by the end of the last thread.

Still hoping for an enormous cast-cull. Hoping for a bomb / gas explosion / serial killer / all of the previous.

yes the sofa thing was funny. Surely Kevin would have measured it etc.

waithorse · 04/12/2014 12:22

The sofa storyline is the build up to Kevin finding a new woman. Hmm

I love Tim and Sally, they are amazing. Grin

hildasmuriel · 04/12/2014 15:20

jill join me on Scar Watch.

Jill2015 · 04/12/2014 19:14

I will hildasmuriel...
I smile each time I type your user name. Hilda was such a great character, and she so loved that 'muriel'.

millimat · 04/12/2014 20:59

That's one uncomfortable sofa!!

DontGotoRoehampton · 04/12/2014 21:25

Definitely agree about the uncomfortable sofa! Not one you could snuggle up on an watch a black and white movie on a Sunday afternoon..
And yes, loving the Sally & Tim stuff - this sofa stuff is exactly the thing that has always made Corrie magical, comedic, not just another soap with only endless affairs and pregnancies and misery.
Sally and Tim are perfect comic timing and foils for each other. Love the way Sally changed her tune when she heard the sofa came from ?Hale??? so in character! And also loving the easy was Tim and Kev get on. Much more to be had out of them!
Loads more of Sally and Tim, and please get rid of all the Windlasses and Kal's family.

Camolips · 04/12/2014 21:29

I can't wait to watch the sofa stuff! At the moment I'm running a couple of episodes behind. It sounds fun! Grin

DontGotoRoehampton · 04/12/2014 21:33

Camolips recommend you fast-forward he rest and watch only the sofa bits which are fab - the rest is dire... Sad

hildasmuriel · 05/12/2014 05:49

Thanks jill it makes me smile too (although any non fans must wonder what the heck). Hilda is probably my all time favourite character, along with, Stan closely followed by Jack and Vera. They tie with Blanche and next Phyllis and Deirdrie. Sally and Tim could be heading that way too but have always loved Sally but she has found the perfect foil with Tim. Love the bickering couples who love each other deep down.

Also loved Steve and Karen and still love Steve, Eileen, Angie Freeman, Fred Elliott, Percy Sugden and Maud Grimes.

Who are other's all time favourites?

ClaudiaNaughton · 05/12/2014 07:46

I like all the BAD men. Duckworth son who tried to sell his baby. R. Hillman. Jim Macdonald so he is. Hoping he gets out of prison real soon so I do. I remember Stan, at the very beginning, being a wife beater tho.Shock before he was softened down.

Jill2015 · 05/12/2014 08:39

hildasmuriel, I love all those you mentioned.
Hilda at home, after Stan died, with his glasses case in her hands, crying quietly, is one of the best and saddest scenes ever.
Jack and Vera were just brilliant.
Phyllis and her endless pursuit of Percy, she always thought one day he would be hers... Grin
Maud, Blanche, Fred Eliot, I loved all of them.

A few more of my old favourites, Eddie Yates, (he used to live with Stan and Hilda). Mike Baldwin and Alma, I loved both of them.
Maureen and Reg, a great comic couple.
Bet and Alec - I loved the way they saw right through one another, and were well matched.
Curly, Raquel, Des Barnes...I loved them. Curly and Reg together were hilarious.
Betty, nobody could quite dismiss notions quite like Betty could with that 'huh'. I love the way she is immortalised in The Rovers, with her photo on display, and her hotpot still in demand.

So many of those characters carried off really funny storylines, and really tragic ones, with equal skill, and that is what made them so great.

hildasmuriel · 05/12/2014 13:51

How could I have left off Betty? And Curly and Reg and Racquel? I also liked Curly's ' second wife Emma. Eddie Yeats was good and he was very funny as Twiggy in the Royle Family.

hildasmuriel · 05/12/2014 13:52

On reflection interesting how I think of many of these characters in pairs, showing how good characters bounce off each other.

DontGotoRoehamptonUniversity · 05/12/2014 20:02

Loving this sofa saga! They have finally got some great scriptwriters in.
Ditto the tarantula in Freshcos. More of the gentle pisstake comedy coming from the characters. Tim/Sally/Kev fab acting/timing.
(But pls get rid of YASMEEN and her hammi-ness)

AmIthatHot · 05/12/2014 20:13

I don't understand why Kevin didn't just tell the truth though

EachandEveryone · 05/12/2014 20:58

Where have I seen that woman before?

DontGotoRoehamptonUniversity · 05/12/2014 21:05

AmIthat But that is the sheer trad sitcom gold that there are misunderstandings that we the audience know and the characters don't ( goes back to Aristotle in Ancient Greece Grin)
I really think this week they have got it back. For the first time in years I was giggling in anticipation during the restaurant scene. And then Sally weighing up new posh friend v new sofa - classic Corrie.
And also with the Carla/Tracey reconciliation, and the Sean/vicar flirtation. Corrie writing seems to be returning to its better days.

Sparklingbrook · 05/12/2014 21:08

Has Sally always been that odd though? i thought she was quite a strong woman, but she's quite odd now.

EachandEveryone · 05/12/2014 21:08

I want to go that disco. The music brought back some memories of living in Manchester.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/12/2014 21:32

Tim is really good at the moment . Hope he gets to read at the auction.

DontGotoRoehamptonUniversity · 05/12/2014 21:42

Yes re loving Tim character . Fab moment when he gave three - not four - cans to Kev Grin.

millimat · 05/12/2014 21:49

I'm another one loving the sofa story!

millimat · 05/12/2014 21:53

... And is it worrying that I find kens comment about bookkeeping interesting?!! Blush

FriskyMare · 05/12/2014 22:00

Each " Diane" played Dougs mother in Hollyoaks.

Jill2015 · 05/12/2014 22:09

Really enjoyed the scenes with Tim, Sally, Kev and Diane.
I loved the way the guys had to keep cutting across to prevent the s word from being spoken by either of the women.
Tim and the pretend wasp sting, or maybe it was the spider... Grin
