Corrie thread - still no sign of Cilla or Fat Brenda but Kim Tate on the horizon

Here we are again - a brand new thread for more Corrie ramblings.

Can't believe Cilla still hadn't turned up by the end of the last thread.

Still hoping for an enormous cast-cull. Hoping for a bomb / gas explosion / serial killer / all of the previous.

I noticed that too re the wine. I love a drink but even I couldn't keep up with that and they weren't even slurring Confused

MrsGhoulofGhostbourne · 29/10/2014 17:56

Yes, I also noticed that about the wine.
Given the amount that Carla drinks, you'd have thought her skin might be affected by now, not to mention her liver etc.

pinkandstripey · 29/10/2014 19:06

I have seen that Sean does get a storyline of his very own in the near future. And Nick does too (not with Sean, that would be a turn up lol).

waithorse · 29/10/2014 19:39

They won't put Sarah-Lou back together, it would be to awkward with them having a daughter in rl.

Sean gets together with the local vicar soon.

Nancy66 · 29/10/2014 19:46

Carla was a confessed alcoholic about a year ago - going to AA meetings an everything. they seem to have forgotten all about that

lilolilmanchester · 29/10/2014 20:45

Haven't watched for a while... Where is Deidre?

NuggetofPurestGreen · 29/10/2014 21:02

Looking after Bev whose sister or brother died or something. You know, her good mate Bev that she hasn't seen for 10 years until she needed to be off screen for a bit.

Maybe you're right about Steve, I admit I only saw one episode which I was judging it on!

NuggetofPurestGreen · 29/10/2014 21:03

Also that was anti climactic.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 29/10/2014 21:14

Hey Gloria's not in Spain at all, I just saw her hanging out with Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey!

lilolilmanchester · 29/10/2014 21:19

Lol thanks Nugget. Do you know why Anne Kirkbride needed time off (nosey emoticon)

MrsGhoulofGhostbourne · 29/10/2014 21:19

Least realistic thing ever that a mum would not go to her DD's wedding, even if it meant a few hours there and then back to friend...

NuggetofPurestGreen · 29/10/2014 21:28

Ridiculous. And Bev only lives in the Peak District. Not New Zealand!

sunflower49 · 29/10/2014 23:15

Yes as if she wouldn't come back for Tracey's wedding, she could leave somebody else with her friend for a day/night!

sunflower49 · 29/10/2014 23:19

...Has Carla rang the police?I've just watched tonights. I'm on the edge of my seat now!

Ellenora5 · 30/10/2014 00:12

I hope she has sunflower, I can't wait to see Tracys face when her wedding falls apart Grin

Amy is morphing into her mother, proper little madam

More Sally and Tim, think they are great together

Why was Eileen at the hospital with Michael, how come Gail (the love of his life) wasn't there

I think they are actually doing quite a good job of Steves storyline, I didn't in the beginning but I've changed my mind

Get rid of Kal and is family, bloody useless and pointless

sunflower49 · 30/10/2014 00:19

I think Gail wasn't there because he dare not tell her!

I know, about the wedding! I've never been into a soap before I began watching Corrie about a year ago. It's so addictive!

I do notice all the crap bits, though. Why's there never been any emphasis on Beth and Tracey's friendship then all of a sudden they're bosom buddies...As if Deidrie wouldn't have been able to make the wedding. Kylie is very obviously pregnant!

I love Steve's character and I actually think they're doing a fairly good job with the depression storyline.

Camolips · 30/10/2014 01:11

Wonder why they needed an excuse for Simon not being at the wedding? Is the actor on holiday? Didn't realise Bev was only in the Peak District!

hildasmuriel · 30/10/2014 03:48

sunflower you picked the best soap to get addicted to in my opinion. I think we all love to pick apart some of the crapness and I frequently have to remind myself it's not real as I do genuinely care about some of the characters.

Beth and Tracey used to house share so that is why they are so close although, you are completely right, I don't think they have barely said 2 words to each other recently and I suspect Beth is fulfilling some parts originally meant for Deirdre as is Ken.

However, I am now delighted that my phone autotyped the word deidrescockandballs when typing Deirdre. I suspect not many people can say thatGrin. Thanks to all on this thread.

hildasmuriel · 30/10/2014 03:50

camolips Simon might have has to smile if he attended the wedding and that hasn't been in his acting repertoire for a long time so maybe that was the reason for the no show.

Possibly right there Hilda. Although it did seem a bit odd that he wouldn't have had some sort of pageboy role. Love deirdrescockandballs Grin

Jill2015 · 30/10/2014 07:07

Maybe Deirdre knows something that we don't Wink. I've actually enjoyed the relationship between Deirdre and Rob. At first she couldn't stand him, then she started to like him, and at times, they were very funny together. He was much kinder to her than Tracyluv ever was. I'm going to miss Rob. I would also love to have seen how he and Ken would get on together, longterm.
Si was no loss to the proceedings. I am always intrigued by the randomness of who is actually invited, to soap weddings. 'Auntie Emily', of course, that made sense. But Mary? Norris?
Sally, Tim, and Kev, but not Gail...as we know she was busy borrowing Ken's kimono Grin.

Looking forward to Friday evening!

impomea · 30/10/2014 07:57

I agree Jill.If someone was as obnoxious in rl as Norris they wouldn't be invited to everyone's weddingSmile

I like Rob now .As Peter is leaving anyway, perhaps he could just be left to rot in prison quietly phased out Grin

NuggetofPurestGreen · 30/10/2014 08:20

Was thinking the same about the random wedding guests. I was wondering if Kirky and Sally and Sean were there as they are rob and Tracey's former colleagues in the factory? Then realise Kirky is Beth's plus one.

WhoKnowsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 30/10/2014 08:31

I'd like to know more about Rob and Carla's early life. But I don't want any extra relatives being introduced to the cast as a means of bringing this about. When Carla arrived she was depicted as very much the WAG type, expecting life to revolve round her while Paul earned all the money, remember she wanted to design her own underwear range and it was all such a big deal because she didn't need to work as she was married to a successful man. They've transformed her into a successful, independent business woman who has disastrous taste in men, and she has grown so much as a character, I love her mixture of hard as nails yet very vulnerable. But there's a lot that's only been hinted at in her past.

They haven't got it right with the alcohol though, portraying her as an out of control alcoholic for a while and then reverting her back to someone who drinks regularly and copiously without ever seeming to have any dependency, despite having been through yet more massive traumas and being married to another alcoholic. I also think that there's a danger they find they can't do much more with her character, she's had so many bereavements, affairs, business disasters, court cases etc.
