I like Kay Mellor and it has a great cast. Anyone else giving it a go?

About half way through on catch-up. It's all a bit plot-writing by numbers, IMO. Everyone looks much more haggard this week, for some reason, too.

AllYouNeedIsTea · 19/08/2014 22:37

Lagoon he wasn't sentenced, he just entered his plea which i think can happen relatively quickly.

But no, it's not particularly realistic!

The midwife character (sunita in corrie) is particularly unkind but then that other one (not the pg one) is annoyingly nice! I'm not sure which one i'd prefer to have with me!

DustBunnyFarmer · 19/08/2014 22:37

Oh for fucks sake! Patient confidentiality, anyone? (Throwaway remark about the poorly baby by careless midwife.)

Tigresswoods · 19/08/2014 22:37

Doesn't EVERYTHING go through magistrates court immediately?

Boysclothes · 19/08/2014 22:41

It's just basically nonsense. But fun. What self respecting bloody midwife would make such a fuss about waters breaking down her front! That happens to me at least twice a week and alright it's not nice when it's soaked into your bra but you don't shriek and leave the multip pushing to sort your tunic out.

Plus the entire way Jill half penny's pregnancy and labour was dealt with. Hilair.

Sad that hermione norris's baby is normal. They set up me up to expect all sorts of hand wringing there.

DustBunnyFarmer · 19/08/2014 22:55

Ha, she's still grunting away (catch up). Really looked like they were over-egging the alcohol intake/FAS baby thing.

FabulousFudge · 19/08/2014 23:33

I'm enjoying it too! Yes she was Grantley's wife - thanks!

redkindof · 20/08/2014 11:02

I didn't watch the first episode but what is Rowanna's(probably wrong spelling ) story if she didn't cheat on her ex h why his he so angry and why haven't they already got a divorce ? Plus with a ex h like that why would you need a toy boy !
What do we think is going to happen next week ?

AppleYumYum · 20/08/2014 11:10

Like someone said up thread, it isn't going to win any awards but I'm sucked in and enjoying it. Oh I hope nothing has happened to the teenager's baby, are they hinting at SIDS? Interested to see if Jasmin's baby is blond with blue eyes...

Doobledootch · 20/08/2014 12:07

If Jasmine's baby isn't born with a shock of blonde hair I'll be amazed.

The whole episode was totally far-fetched although I quite enjoyed the mother-in-law a the birth of grandchild, it was all done quite sweetly I thought.

But, who parks their landrover next to a burning car, honestly, who in their right mind would just get out of their car, bleep the locks and walk off in the other direction without even mentioning it. I just really don't understand what that was all about, very bizarre.

Onesleeptillwembley · 20/08/2014 12:21

We played cliche bingo last night. Didn't make it any better, sadly.

AllYouNeedIsTea · 20/08/2014 12:34

It doesn't feel like we've been given enough opportunity to get to know the characters. It would have been nice to know a bit about them and their relationships before they were pregnant, then on finding out about the pregnancies, then at full term. Rather than just being thrown in at nine months when they all seem to be in unrealistic and unstable relationships. I don't know how that could have been done without it feeling even more rushed though.

It is completely full of cliches and the births haven't been very realistic.

And yes, what kind of mw exclaims 'oh god!' when a woman's waters break on her?

Still going to watch though!

Thurlow · 20/08/2014 12:40

I decided not to watch this and then caught the 2nd half of last night's episode. I spent that half hour getting increasingly pissed off by...

Woman who has recovered in about 2 days from an emcs
Mixed pre and post-natal wards (or maybe that's just my area)
Midwives giving away other patient's information
Midwives on the ward actually being nice and talking to the patients
Hermione Norris's character being greeted by a midwife who acted like she knew HN was in proper labour without even examining her, and saying she'd take her straight through and get her sorted
And does no one on telly ever have a vaguely realistic first birth where you spend three days at home with on-off contractions?

And that's just off the top of my head.

Yet, yet... did I switch over during that half hour? No I did not.

Though I might just have been to see what else they managed to get wildly wrong.

juniper44 · 20/08/2014 23:03

Where are all these lovely, caring midwives who take you by the hand and say there'll be a bed ready soon?!

I had DD in October, and when I went into hospital I was having contractions lasting 50 seconds and every 3 minutes. The reception nurses tutted at me for pacing and being in pain, then the antenatal MW told me to go home and come back when they were every minute! I had no drugs til I was 7cm. Not for lack of asking... anyway.

These midwives seem to work continuously, and frequently on their own Hmm. Why would the same midwife be leading ante-natal classes, rushing down to car-parks, be in the OR and also be a general post-natal nurse? Doesn't make sense!

Also, how long is the average first time labour? 13 hours?

I enjoyed the show as it is naff, but it is naff. It's easy watching but ridiculous.

DiscoDancer · 20/08/2014 23:41

Agree that this is full of cliches and awful insincere wooden acting. Script is so, um scripted! Really disappointed. Did hear today that Scott and Bailey is coming back on soon, so at least that will be something to get my teeth stuck into!

sweetnessandlite · 23/08/2014 19:45

It's growing on me. I really enjoyed the last episode. The one with the blonde hair is a really good actress.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/08/2014 20:15

still enjoying, just watched last weeks, forgot had on planner Blush

roll on this weeks :)

Southeastdweller · 24/08/2014 21:42

Another one here who knows it's ridiculous tosh but can't stop watching Grin. I was rooting all the way for Hermione Norris in this weeks episode.

onedev · 25/08/2014 00:39

Me too South Grin

DinoSnores · 26/08/2014 09:40

I feel I can post this as it is hardly a serious conversation about a serious programme (the doctor in me is struggling with the medical 'facts') but it is all rather enjoyable nonsense, but just had to say that I just love Katherine Parkinson's hair. I wish I had curly hair that behaved like that!

juneybean · 26/08/2014 21:06

Any one watching tonight?

FabulousFudge · 26/08/2014 21:07

Me!

girliefriend · 26/08/2014 21:10

me! So Jude is the babies dad then?!

juneybean · 26/08/2014 21:11

Isn't Jude the son??

girliefriend · 26/08/2014 21:15

My money is on him being Dinahs (sp?) dad, the teenage girls baby....
