I think Littlefinger will turn out to be a huge player in the 'game' of thrones. I think he's playing a long game and he must have been quite strategic to work his way into the inner circle from being a relative nobody.

QueenOfThorns · 08/05/2014 09:22

Is it ok that I rather like Littlefinger? I know he's despicable, but he's far more likeable than other characters, Cersei, for example.

We need to see more Varys, he's great too!

TunipTheUnconquerable · 08/05/2014 09:26

Definitely a huge player. Don't trust him, Sansa!

Incidentally, does anyone else have doubts about his whole 'I used to be in love with Catelyn Tully and that's why I'm helping you' shtick? It sounds to me like exactly the sort of thing he might make up because Sansa would believe it.
I don't think she should let herself be alone in any high places with him.

hildasmuriel · 08/05/2014 09:35

I actually believe he was in love with Catelyn, it has never occurred to me before that this was part of his game but now you have me thinking. Maybe that was all part of planning his rise to power?

Although I still think maybe he was reallynin love with Catelynn and maybe her rejection of him has lead him to be so manipulative so he never again misses out on what he wants. Is Sansa a substitute for her? I do think Sansa is very beautiful and graceful.

Poor Sansa, she really is learning the hard way about people's selfishness and manipulation. Only really the Hound and Tyrion have shown her genuine kindness I think.

I do enjoy his character though. And yes Varys too, although I see Varys as being less self centred than Littlefinger, more about the good of the realm whereas Littlefinger entirely about what's good for him.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 08/05/2014 09:35

Well he was in love with Cat but that's not why he's helping her. He doesn't do anything from noble intentions!

QueenOfThorns · 08/05/2014 10:17

Yes, I'm sure he was in love with Cat. Also agree that this isn't the reason he's helping Sansa. Having her in his power is more of a bonus for him.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 08/05/2014 10:27

I believe it suit him to think he was in love with Cat. When she basically told him to fuck off, early on (can't remember which season) he seemed very uncertain - not so much gutted as 'woah, how do I play this one?'

I think he draws on the 'I was disappointed in love and am now bitter' story in much the same way Tyrion draws on 'my father hates me but I am tough and funny about it'. There's a little bit of truth but it's also about which face you present to the world - if it's a completely fake one, everyone knows you're game-playing.

AnnaLegovah · 08/05/2014 11:12

I think Littlefinger wants to marry Sansa. He'll bump Lysa off when it suits him. Varys has always known who Littlefinger really is. Remember what he said - 'Littlefinger would see the realm burn if he could be king of the ashes.'

AnnaLegovah · 08/05/2014 11:18

Oh, and catching up with earlier in the thread - Osha the wildling and Rickon are headed for House Umber (I forget the name of the place) but I can't remember if there are any Umbers left after the Red Wedding. (don't want to go googling in case I find spoilers).

AnnaLegovah · 08/05/2014 11:21

Oh sorry me again...

Ghost is safely returned but where is Summer???

Am I the only one who got all girly and giggly when Jon Snow said (in a very rough voice) "I missed you, boy." Blush

LRDtheFeministDragon · 08/05/2014 11:27

Actually, I thought he was hamming up the accent just then. But I'm finding him irritating at the moment.

AnnaLegovah · 08/05/2014 12:43

Yeah I do think Jon Snow is getting a bit big for his fur lined breeches... Wink

LRDtheFeministDragon · 08/05/2014 12:55
Grin

Poor Jon Snow.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 08/05/2014 13:05

Yeah, poor Jon Snurr, it's not his fault he knows nothing.

Must admit I did smile when he met up with his wolf again :) But I wondered about Summer too - did he go with Bran and co?

StudyFullTime · 12/05/2014 21:20

Who's watching?

TunipTheUnconquerable · 12/05/2014 21:38

We haven't got Sky but I watched the best trial bits on Youtube earlier.

Figster · 12/05/2014 21:55

Loved Tyrion tonight!!

Next week should be good!!

Cooroo · 12/05/2014 22:03

Bloody Shea! But he didn't stand a chance. I would have thought Tywin would want to find out the truth. But maybe he already knows it.

hildasmuriel · 12/05/2014 22:30

Tyrion can express so much with just a look.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 12/05/2014 22:51

Hmm. I loved what they did with emphasising the bond between Tyrion and Jaime.

I didn't find Shae plausible at all. I thought that was really weak plotting. He has turned her down so many times, and she has always shown herself to be much smarter than that, and if anything more aware than he is of pressures.

If we discover she's being manipulated by someone else, I can forgive it, but otherwise, I think that's just crap.

Igggi · 12/05/2014 23:01

Oh poor theon I thought something good was finally happening! Maybe he will come back to himself in the end though.
Have come to realise I really fancy Tyrion. And his dad. And brother Blush

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 12/05/2014 23:26

Oh not just me who thinks Charles Dance looks good in black leather?

BelleOfTheBorstal · 13/05/2014 03:26

Out of the Lannisters, Cersei is the one I lust for. Though she is a nasty piece of work. But lovely to look at.

Seatedhere · 13/05/2014 04:13

Poor Theon - the ultimate Stockholm Syndrome.

ThatVikRinA22 · 13/05/2014 04:46

god i cried at tonights - when Shae took the stand.....when tyrion said his piece.....
he cant die. in combat or any other....
