BBC2, 8.30pm. Monica is back. Michel is back. Sadly, Greg is also back, but we can't have everything. This is my favourite Masterchef variant, so I am a happy bunny.

I find Greg unbearable. Can't bear his pontificating about the food or seeing him trowel it in his gob. I really like Masterchef and it makes me not want to watch the programme.
I was hoping he might be gone after the brawling incident but sadly not.

BadgersNadgers · 12/12/2013 21:46

Im so pleased Stepehen won.

Agree about Greg. I'm not sure who I'd like to replace him - certainly not John Torode. Maybe they should go retro and bring back Lloyd Grossman.

LondonMother · 12/12/2013 21:56

Jux, I think he meant that he and Stephen were in the same semi-final. I don't think they were in the same heat, were they?

I'm happy for Stephen and his little family. I think all three finalists should do well in the future after this.

Signora - i couldnt have said it better myself. Stephen was awful.

Scott should have won IMO.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 12/12/2013 22:12

I actually missed the entire cooking part and decided I wouldn't have time to watch for ages so I came to see who won!

Congratulations to Stephen.

I do think maybe the 'Adam messes up, Adam fixes it' thing was deliberate to mislead for the actual winner.

Just get rid of 'The Diner' altogether. Enough people eat the food, they don't need Big Mouth Gregg there at all!

Jux · 12/12/2013 22:30

Slack jawed is a good description! I liked him more as the series continued, though. Londonmother, you're probably right - I couldn't really hear what he said in full as the kettle was boiling and it is very noisy while the tv at full volume is quite quiet. (May I take this opportunity to tel you all NOT to get a Toshiba, it's crap.)

I was rooting for Scotty, as Monica calls him when at the pass Grin

Was thinking that it wasn't that long ago that any mention of cake for pudding on MC produced rather a sneery response about cake not being fine dining. But Monica and Michel lit up at the mention of cake - quite rightly IMHO and very MN Cake

herbaceous · 13/12/2013 09:25

I was a little dismayed by the result. I had initially been rooting for Adam, as he seemed so talented and such a Nice Young Man and so humble, but then, as noted, he became a right whinger.

It was Scott's lemon pudding for the chefs that made me think he should win. It was so utterly delicious, and so much more suited to the 40deg heat than poncy sorbets and delices.

Have to admit Stephen's food was the best on the night. But not sure that it should always be decided purely on 'best on the night'. Perhaps averaging out performance from all three final events - Massimo, chefs and final cook off? In which case, Scott should have won.

BadgersNadgers · 13/12/2013 09:27

I love that M and M love cake.

I get a bit animated when the chefs make a creamy dessert but no biscuit - Michel has to have a biscuit stuck in his pudding!

Jux · 13/12/2013 10:38

Texture! It's all about texture.

herbaceous · 13/12/2013 10:39

I've been wondering whether a pressure cooker would work on our induction hob - the MC ones all looked aluminium. Or whether we could fit a sous vide machine in somewhere.

Hexiegone · 13/12/2013 11:35
Xmas Grin

While they are eatng this, isn't the food of the other 2 getting cold

I have heard that the judges taste it all cold because the way the filming works it's not possible for them to serve it hot. Ew. I don't think it works that way for the critics but could be wrong.

Jux · 13/12/2013 18:24

I asked dh if I could have a sous vide. His face went like this Shock

It was very funny.
