BBC2, 8.30pm. Monica is back. Michel is back. Sadly, Greg is also back, but we can't have everything. This is my favourite Masterchef variant, so I am a happy bunny.

CremolaFirCone · 10/12/2013 20:33

I heart Massimo

colleysxmasmillofcheer · 10/12/2013 20:34

I liked the look of the the hiding snails dish

catwithflowers · 10/12/2013 20:35

Amazing. His presentation is wild!

CremolaFirCone · 10/12/2013 20:38

He does make more conservative chefs look , erm , a bit dull.
Yy to Modena meetupGrin

colleysxmasmillofcheer · 10/12/2013 20:40

He doesn't look like he would shout at you if you got something wrong!

SconeForAStroll · 10/12/2013 20:50

Massimo's plating is so joyful and Jackson pollockesque. Amazing.

Jux · 10/12/2013 22:17

I have come up woth the next big thong in cheffing. Shattered Vegetable Tops.

You freeze them, then just chuck them at your work surface where they will shatter into tiny bits. Then you can sprinkle them over anything you fancy.

I'll sell the idea to Greg and go to Massimo's on the proceeds. I'll take photos and blow them up to 6ft x 4ft and hang them on my walls so I can remember the delight of Mad Italian Food for the rest of my life. I'll post the pics on my profile so you can all be jealous.

SconeForAStroll · 11/12/2013 08:10

You will cook them sous vide first though, won't you Jux? Xmas Grin

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 09:57

I'm just watching now. Adam is so lost!

Davros · 11/12/2013 10:28

Loved the scraps challenge. That mad Massimo reminded me of Roberto Benigno (?not 100% sure of his name) who climbed over the seats to get his Oscar for Life Is Beautiful. Wasn't sure about Massimo's wife, I think she had been freeze dried as she was a bit brittle!
I am thinking of getting DH a Theromix for Xmas but can't quite bring myself to do it because of £. He would love it. Talk me into it, I need to do it soon.

herbaceous · 11/12/2013 12:26

Mad Massimo was a good example of how to inspire people and get the best out of them while not being a total bastard (a la Michael Crawford Evil Twin).

I'm finding the narrative arc a bit obvious this series. They keep setting Adam up for a fall (too sniffy with the leftovers; too uptight for Mad Massimo) and he then triumphs and overcomes. I trust we'll see him mildly cock up his ptarmigan crumb in the final, yet go on to win...

Noseynoonoo · 11/12/2013 12:40

I looked up the Osteria on TripAdvisor. It looks like the service can be 'variable'. There's a corking review where someone was sat next to the chef's wife. Several people asked to moved away from her.

herbaceous · 11/12/2013 13:10

She did look as if she was sucking a lemon half the time, while eating some of the best food on the planet. I think maybe Massimo needs a second wife, who understands him better. Shall we form an orderly queue?

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 13:20

She's very American, I think. Or Canadian. She reminds me of my mother, never pleased with anything.

Davros · 11/12/2013 15:10

I couldn't place Scitt's accent. First I thought he was a Geordie, then Scottish and last night he said something about being Welsh!

Davros · 11/12/2013 15:10

Or Scott's even

Gracelo · 11/12/2013 15:26

He sounds Scottish to me, but I'm not very good with accents. He works in St Andrews, doesn't he?

worldgonecrazy · 11/12/2013 17:13

herbaceous I agree. It's as if the narrative for the series was written only when the winner was decided, and is being used to build the story, which is giving it a phoney feeling.

Hexiegone · 11/12/2013 18:40

Scott's accent is Scottish though I heard him saying something about being Welsh too, Davros. He's just trying to confuse us Grin. He does work in St Andrews.

Gracelo · 11/12/2013 19:14

That restaurant wasn't there yet when I lived in St Andrews. It looks really good.

CremolaFirCone · 11/12/2013 20:02

[excitedGrin]
Assumed Scott was a scot but he has mentioned wales twice now.
Lol@ the reviews of Massimos joint.
But seriously couldn't be married to him. Too Keraaazzy!

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 20:03

Just said St Andrews for sure.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 11/12/2013 20:03

Have they ever had help before?

CremolaFirCone · 11/12/2013 20:10

Don't think so tee.Wink
But they are all head chefs aren't they so will have had experience at being the boss .
Pressure cookers getting a bit of a retro outing again.
