I'm still stupidly excited about the 'new' Troughton episodes, but just to add to the fun, Watch are showing some seriously classic episodes today from 2pm. Any else watching? And what are you looking forward to as we approach the anniversary episode and beyond?

Peter Jackson and Moffat have been in cahoots before - Jackson held up the filming of The Hobbit so that Martin Freeman could do Sherlock for Moffat.

MavisKorvarian · 24/11/2013 15:47

I did like Olivia Coleman in the 5ish Doctors remarking that she was in everything. I also like McCoy's "I want to go home now".

However, I'm not entirely sure I like the idea of looking for Gallifey - doesn't the Last Of The Timelords thing go someway to defining who the Doctor is? We run the risk of this just turning into some Quest and IMO that would spoil it slightly. Mind you, after last night I trust The Moff to have a good take on it so we shall see.

TheDoctrineOfWho · 24/11/2013 15:49

Tardis while I can

PaulMcGannsMistress · 24/11/2013 16:07

Oh I dunno, I think the idea of a quest might add some freshness to the format. And after all, Moffat did say that the 50th would change the direction of the show IIRC.

TheSontaranPussycat · 24/11/2013 16:26

When Dr Who rebooted under RTD, I was somewhat annoyed that Gallifrey and the Time Lords had been destroyed, thus cutting off fruitful lines of possible plot. Although they managed to get round this, kind of, I'm glad it's (now? Tardis ) still around somewhere.

I never forgave the Time Council for marooning Number 3 on Earth - I absolutely hated all the UNIT stuff. With a whole universe out there, I thought it rather defeated the whole idea of the programme. Not to mention stretching credibility, if such a word can be used in this context - hey, another alien landing/infiltration/resuscitation! - week after sodding week.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 24/11/2013 16:37

But, from a practical point of view, it boosted the viewing figures back up. According to the Culture Show special, Who was close to being cancelled when Troughton finished, so the change in format was a last-ditch attempt to keep it going. I think Doctor Who is always going to be a product of his time and we probably need to embrace that; the Pertwee era was very 70s.

PaulMcGannsMistress · 24/11/2013 16:46

Exactly. When it gets called a cultural phenomenon, that's true, but it's a symbiotic thing - the culture absorbs Who and Who absorbs the culture.

SoupDragon · 24/11/2013 16:59

I never forgave the Time Council for marooning Number 3 on Earth

You do realise it wasn't actually the fault of the "Time Council" don't you...? Wink

HesterShaw · 24/11/2013 17:09

I enjoyed the programme so much last night but have NO IDEA what you lot are on about now. I need to do some serious catch up. When I was little I used to hide behind the sofa before doing air guitar gallops with my brother round the coffee table, and when it came back in 2005 I wasn't interested. Now I am. What should I do?

TheSontaranPussycat · 24/11/2013 17:16

Am I going to have to google now? I can't remember the details Blush - I thought that's what they said on one of those overview programmes last week.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 24/11/2013 17:17

ok. got ,to paGE 33 of this thread and now musty contribute,
flame me, I didn't like it!!!!!!! huge disappointment.

cant STAND Rose and wtf was that stupid accent thing she was doing? no point in her being there!

cant STAND DT either. an excuse to 'get the snoggy one with a busty bodiced slutty queen' stuff.

what was the point of the brilliant Zygons? they didn't really do anything did they?

Tom Baker YES! but why so old?

and JH turning into ecclestone just so blandly,. they usually regenerate after a zap or a timelord punishment, not so blah.

LOVED the opening title and Coal Hill school.

LOVED Clara. she carried the show I think, she was brilliant yet subtle, forceful yet not ballsy like rose or amy, and def knows the doctors in charge, not her.

yes loved the docs all together and the cameo of Capaldi.

but MUCH preffered AN Adventure in Time and space the other day. ark Gattis should have written this episode.

and no mention at all of Russel T Davies who was responsible of bringing it all back?

and where was McGann after? the after show thing was a bit pants wasn't it? why interview JAKE???????????????? what about all the other companions?

think the Moff has gotten too big for his boots! Tardis.

okay, jammie dodger time?

RussTDaviesBear · 24/11/2013 17:36

The first doctor regenerated simply because 'this body of mine is wearing a bit thin', so there is a precedent for that.

MavisKorvarian · 24/11/2013 17:48

Aw Zygons what a shame you didn't like it!

However - "Tom Baker YES! but why so old?" er, possibly because he's not actually a Time Lord... and time's moved on since 1981... Grin Tardis

And I will have to take issue with you re DT. But then, I would, wouldn't I??

TheDoctrineOfWho · 24/11/2013 17:52

If you watch the behind the scenes, the actress playing QE1 had a six week old baby at the time.

Not much to be done about the "busty" in those circs...

Grin
LetZygonsbeZygons · 24/11/2013 17:53

Mavis. think it was cos I didint expect too much from 'An Adventure' yet it was fabby, and TOO excited at the hype for TDOTD and it didn't live up to my expectations!

found the story just too confusing.

IMO it was a matter of style over substance.

But hey, Im in a minority here Tardis, and Ive been enjoying the old doctor who episodes sooooooo much, it was just such a lead balloon in the end.

although my crushee for Matt Smiths gotten more Grin Tardis!

SoupDragon · 24/11/2013 17:54

Am I going to have to google now? I can't remember the details

LOLOL... No. I just meant it was the script writers :)

SoupDragon · 24/11/2013 17:55

cant STAND Rose and wtf was that stupid accent thing she was doing?

I believe it is her real accent!!

SoupDragon · 24/11/2013 17:58

Russell was in the 5ish Doctors along with the ignored doctors and
John Barrowman :)

ItsBiggerOnTheInside · 24/11/2013 17:58

Tom Baker really is that old now Grin. At least they didn't do a make over and try to get him younger looking

Davros · 24/11/2013 18:11

Zygons, so sorry you didn't like it. At least there's been plenty of other stuff I hope you liked. I haven't seen The Culture Show yet, looking forward to that. I think the Rose from last night was just the form the weapon took so she wasn't supposed to sound the same as the real one. Reminded me of when Cassandra was inside her though
Tardis Tardis Tardis

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/11/2013 18:15

I think I might have preferred it if the conscience had changed form during the episode, rather than just being not-Rose.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 24/11/2013 18:18

aw, please, don't be disappointed at me, I TRIED to love it, I really did Sad.

I did shed a teeny tear at TB. and Id have loved to have seen more past docs, why only tennant?

all the docs like the 3 docs and the 5 mdocs would have been brill.

they could have got Sean Pertwee for John as he looks just like him, got a young looking TB (Davison, CB (albeit a bit podgier)and Sylvester and McGAnn stilllook pretty much the same)

but I REALLY bawled at Matt at the end of the 1st doc story.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/11/2013 18:18

It might have been fun as well to have all the old Doctors and companions in it as well, not as part of the story, but as extras - in the crowd as the TARDIS was lowered, in the museum etc., and you could spot them if you wanted to.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 24/11/2013 18:19

Tardis Tardis Tardis Tardis make the most while its still here! Tardis

Jux · 24/11/2013 18:21

I used to have a Dalek. Genuine Dalek from BBC, used in the original Whos from 60s.
