The New Doctor?

Or just the trailer for the 50th anniversary episode?

Or something else entirely?

edam You've met Hiddleston? I am deeply, deeply jealous. He seems like a genuinely lovely person. Envy

Flobbadobs · 02/08/2013 15:28

Luke Treadaway looks a bit too babyfaced again, James Frain would be fab, he does dark rather well, problem is I think he's US based now, he certainly has his own family over there.
Ben Wishaw has been mentioned but he's due to start in a west end play at the end of the year. With Rupert Grint.
It's sure to be someone relatively unknown or someone who is getting a second chance at a decent role. Chris Eccleston hadn't been in the public eye much for a while before getting the role had he?
Really not sure. There was a lot of "wtf"ing when Matt Smith was announced, mainly due to his age so I reckon it'll be someone older.

Flobbadobs · 02/08/2013 15:30

I too am very jealous edam. That voice of his would send me into a tailspin if he directed it at me...
He addresses his Twitter followers as 'my dear friends', everytime I see it I think 'aw bless, he's such a sweetie'!

SparklyVampire · 02/08/2013 15:31

I heard it could possibly be Dominic Cooper, Has done films in the US but not massively Famous. I shall keep my fingers crossed for some eye candy again. No offence to Matt Smith but he was so strange looking I just couldn't watch him on screen Blush

AlphaBetaOoda · 02/08/2013 15:31

Tom Ellis has been in it already too but small enough part to be Dr?

SparklyVampire · 02/08/2013 15:32

I would also love Tom Hiddleston or Dominic West

teejwood · 02/08/2013 15:34

Tee I think with every new Doctor there is fantasy casting (like Chiwetel) which is fun to dream about and then more likely candidates.

Who seems to have an increasingly global audience so they may be willing to go for a more well known but still jobbing rather than star actor - someone who isn't necessarily tagged to one role. Capaldi is a brilliant actor but he is so Malcolm Tucker these days I think that rules him out. Tom Ellis and Ben Daniels have a truckload of experience but you wouldn't necessarily consider them only in the context of one role.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Daniel Rigby had it in the bag Grin

YoungBritishPissArtist · 02/08/2013 15:36

Sophie Okonedo would be fab as the Doctor. She has enormous depth as an actor but can be comic and light as well.

Tee2072 · 02/08/2013 15:38

Oh I know, Tee. I just like to dash hopes. Grin

teejwood · 02/08/2013 15:41

Flobb, Wishaw again is my fantasy casting Grin and again would love Hiddleston but think he's a Hollywood boy these days!

Alpha - it hasn't stopped them before with companions and don't forget that he played.... a doctor Wink

teejwood · 02/08/2013 15:43

Young, the only problem with Sophie is that she's Liz 10, she rules, innit! Wink

And much though the Who team likes to recycle people it's not normally people who have had such an iconic role. And the thought of the doctor being Liz 10 when he/she was married to Liz 1....!

Flobbadobs · 02/08/2013 15:44

I didn't even realise that Daniel Rigby was Eric Morecambe!! I thought he just played that annoying tit in the BT ads... Blush
He's catching up to Peter Capaldi as far as betting goes.

teejwood · 02/08/2013 15:45

Bloody hell need to go get the kids
looking forward to more speculation Grin

teejwood · 02/08/2013 15:46

Flobb - yy - good acting chops - already got the BAFTA!

YoungBritishPissArtist · 02/08/2013 15:46

teejwood, thanks for the heads-up, I admittedly haven't watched DW in 20 years! Blush

I'll bow out and leave it to you knowledgeable peeps...

RustyBear · 02/08/2013 15:48

Stephen Moffatt said on the commentary to The Wedding of River Song that when they were looking to replace David Tennant, the first criterion they had was that they were looking for someone older. Apparently he said 'It's not going to be a 27-year old' Then they saw Matt Smith. Well, said SM on the commentary, it wasn't a 27-year old -he was 26!

So if it was Tom Ellis, what would happen if there was a Martha reunion - could be a little embarrassing if the Doctor suddenly looks like her ex-fiancé....

EauRouge · 02/08/2013 15:55

I wonder if they will go for someone older when all the new incarnations have been fairly young- I've heard Alex Jennings mentioned a couple of times as a possibility.

Thurlow · 02/08/2013 16:00

Who's Damien Moloney? He's on The Indie's list of front runners, I've never heard of him but quite honestly I wouldn't complain Grin

Southeastdweller · 02/08/2013 16:04

Dear God, not Tom Ellis. So bland and always the same in everything. I'd prefer his missus (Tamzin Outhwaite) to him.

Daniel Rigby a great suggestion - not famours, known to the BBC, and with ace comedic timing.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is too hot in America now - his new film with Michael Fassbender is tipped to get him his first Oscar nomination.

RustyBear · 02/08/2013 16:09

1.William Hartnell - 8 January 1908 - 23 November 1963- 55
2.Patrick Troughton- 25 March 1920 - 29 October 1966 - 46
3.Jon Pertwee - 7 July 1919 - 3 January 1970 - 50
4.Tom Baker - 20 January 1934 - 8 June 1974 - 40
5.Peter Davison - 13 April 1951 - 21 March 1981- 29
6.Colin Baker - 8 June 1943 - 16 March 1984 - 40
7.Sylvester McCoy - 20 August 1943 - 7 September 1987 - 44
8.Paul McGann - 14 November 1959 - 27 May 1996 - 36
9.Chris Eccleston - 16 February 1964 - 26 March 2005 - 41
10.David Tennant - 18 April 1971 - 18 June 2005 - 34
11.Matt Smith - 28 October 1982 - 1 January 2010 - 27

So DT was 7 years younger than CE, and MS 7 years younger than DT on their debuts - looks like it'll be a 20-year-old! Grin

What about David Harewood? He's always banging on about there being not enough work here for him and he's not in Homeland anymore, though I think he's done an American TV pilot and waiting for it to be picked up.

DamnDeDoubtance · 02/08/2013 16:13

Damien Malony was Lord Hal in Being Human and would be a fine doctor.

Alonglongway · 02/08/2013 16:16

we are going to the BBC show at Elstree on Sunday evening which DD1 reckons is the announcement show. Well, I say we're going - we have tickets and she is willing to show up VERY early to queue
