It's a bit soon for me to have an opinion yet, but it looks interesting enough that I'm recording it to watch later with DH...

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2013 14:43

I haven't watched The Fall at all. Would I like it? When's it on?

Lulabellarama · 10/06/2013 14:45

It's the last one tonight Viva but I imagine they're on iplayer.
It's very good and very sinister, I'm a big fan.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2013 14:55

Thanks, ill have a look on iTunes. Looks like the DVD is out soon as well so I might get it.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 10/06/2013 14:59

viva, the fall is really silly, but loads of people like it. lots of violence against women, a handsome sociopathic killer etc... don't watch it if you require characters to behave in any recognisably human fashion.

rufussmum · 10/06/2013 15:23

Twin getting shagged by boy was pretending to be the other one. I think.
No body in Mr Costa's house as returnee wife can't die twice?
Am sure girl in bar was a medium/clairvoyant - hence being murder victim.
I think architecture, underpass, deserted streets etc all to add unworldly atmosphere.
Why otherwise would woman nurse/doc visit patient at night by bus? No one has a car.

OliviaMMumsnet · 10/06/2013 16:01

Aitch - do you really think the fall is that bad?
Did you like broadchurch?

I never watched Broadchurch either.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 10/06/2013 16:25

yes i do olivia AND I ONLY WATCHED IT COS YOU TOLD ME TO. Grin [five hours of my life i'll never get back] I really think it's just stylish rubbish and am so shocked that so many people like it.

yyy, loved B'church, until the last ep when it turned out to be a cuddly paedophile.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 10/06/2013 16:54

i presumed the mountain goats were suspended in the water having been knocked there by the falling bus?

Lulabellarama · 10/06/2013 16:55

alpine In a show about people coming back from the dead, it's funny that the thing you're concerned about is whether 'a butterfly's wings really break through glass though?'

Just had a thought about the animals in the water - obviously dead. Are they coming alive again and making the water level at the dam fall? Although it would have to be a lot of animals

This program has been on my mind today! In a good way. Cant wait til Sunday now

OliviaMMumsnet · 10/06/2013 18:10

Aitch: BlushLOL at 5 hours of my life you're not getting back - I am sure you have watched shiter things than that - and you didn't gave to watch it all Wink

Agree re broadchurch Like scottish Tennant (he is a sleb version of my DH)
Love Gillian Anderson in The fall though
Apols

teejwood · 10/06/2013 18:15

Bloody hell Viva, if your theory about the barmaid is right I take it all back, that is a VERY French approach to being a medium!! I saw a table with chairs around it and a red candle in the centre and thought it was a case of sit down, hold hands and chant "Est-ce-qu'il y a quelqu'un?!" in a dramatic fashion! But your explanation would make sense of why the dad was doing up his belt.... I thought perhaps he had just loosened it while he was sitting down...

Can't quite get my head around the animals in the water and the falling water level either, happycamper. But the dam must have a fairly major role in the whole thing. Maybe it was built on the top of a site where terrible murders had previously taken place? Maybe Victor's murder?

Am watching the Fall on catch-up but doubt I'll get through the other episodes in time for the finale, so have been avoiding the thread like mad. From what I have seen so far it is very stylised (eg the mirroring of the victim and GA in ep 1/2), but diverting enough. The old what you know/who you know and nutter paramilitaries strike about the right note fwiw!

Also agree re the ending of Broadchurch

teejwood · 10/06/2013 18:20

Oh yes, the butterfly, the other things that are pinging at me there:
a) why that butterfly, why not all of them? does this mean that only certain dead people are coming back too? what's the selection process?!
b) the gentle butterfly exerted enough force to come off its mounting pin and break out of the glass. That is surely superman in butterfly terms. Does that mean all of the returnees have come back with super-charged strength or similar?

VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2013 18:23

How woukd the animals make the water level fall? By drinking it? I've been to that lake in real life - its massive. You'd need 20,000 elephants to make a difference.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2013 18:24

Yes, I wondered if all the returnees have some sort of ability or are super strong.

Victor got from the back garden to the flat door in super human time, including through a locked main door.

teejwood · 10/06/2013 18:25

Aaaand - going back to Lula's point at the top of the page, I don't like that preacher/psychiatrist/whatever blokey. He gives me the creeps, which is an achievement for a living character in a show about the dead

Viva, working on Archimedes Principle, if the water was full of dead animals and they came back to life and climbed out of the water then the water level would fall. BUT, as you have said, that is a huge lake, so it would take a massive number of dead animals to make a significant difference and for the drop to be noticeable and a cause for concern for the engineers. So I'm not quite convinced that the animals are the reason... but have no clue what else it might be!

VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2013 19:01

Maybe there's a crack in space and time at the bottom of the lake.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/06/2013 19:01

Finally watched - didn't want to read /reply on here till I had

Def need to concentrate and actually watch it :)

So different time scales when they all died according to here

Camille coach 4yrs
Simon wedding day 7yrs
Victor who knows but was possibly alive 4yrs ago unless a ghost but was his fault coach crashed
Simon goes round killing people

Is camille Lena?
Why did mr costa burn his home then commit suicide?

Not sure why so many on here don't want to watch alone ? Not that scary Hmm

Or am I a brave blondes Grin
