It's a bit soon for me to have an opinion yet, but it looks interesting enough that I'm recording it to watch later with DH...

I thought the dead animals were some sort of taxidermy thing - deer heads on wall etc.
It's great that they don't waste 20 mins on recapping last week's episode.
Did anyone else have French subtitles on the ads in the first break last night? If not and just me, am spooked.

ScrambledSmegs · 17/06/2013 20:01

NoHank - yes, I laughed too Blush It was just too comedic wasn't it?

The animals in the water in the credits - weird. I think they're in the dam, yes? So, why are they there? Is it some kind of crazy animal mass suicide? And if so, what were they trying to get away from? The revenants?

Victor was in front of the bus. I think he knows a lot more about the status of the revenants than some of the others do.

Lucy - so, she's some kind of sex-medium? Confused

I would do Simon. I really would. Sorry DH.

ScrambledSmegs · 17/06/2013 20:03

But, but - if the animals in the dam died, why haven't they come back?

ScrambledSmegs · 17/06/2013 20:03

PS Anyone else think Julie's nosy neighbour's days are numbered?

smokinaces · 17/06/2013 20:09

Maybe victor is Mr costas son? A first experiment at trying to bring back the dead, only didn't quite bring back his speech?

PacificDogwood · 17/06/2013 20:29

Nosy Neighbour is not long for this world - I am sure...

I still prefer Serge to Simon

It is a bit odd (well, there are loads of things odd in this, but accepting that dead beings can come back) that only some dead people/animals come back. Is it random? Are the selected? By what criteria?

Hm, floating goats... I don't know. Accidently drowned accidents when the dam went 'live'? Oh, oh, oh, I know, the dam holds a reservoir of soon-to-be-Returned beings. There. Solved it. Grin

Queen0fFeckingEverything · 17/06/2013 20:36

I assumed that when Adele said 'its happening again' she was thinking Simon was not really there and that she had in the past suffered delusions about him?

YY to Nosy Neighbour being a likely candidate for getting dead soon.

Felt a lot braver than last week as DP and two of the resident teenagers watched it with me Grin but it was still ver ver creeepy and unsettling.

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 17/06/2013 20:46

I also said to DH that Julie's nosey neighbour wouldn't last long!

Pennies · 17/06/2013 22:01

Interesting preview info on the Channel 4 website for next Sunday...

ThreeBeeOneGee · 17/06/2013 22:04

I'm enjoying this thread nearly as much as the show itself.

I think the water in the dam is trying to follow the returned people. Because that's what they are made of. Dust to dust. Ashes to ashes. Dam water to dam water.

I had a weekend away so couldn't watch the latest episode....will do it asap!

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 18/06/2013 09:21

DH thinks that Julie is a Returned (although the may not know it) because nobody could have survived that many stabs.

susiedaisy · 18/06/2013 11:13

I am amazed the girl in the subway could survive all night in the cold with those stab wounds, must people would bleed out very quickly

encyclogirl · 18/06/2013 11:16

Oooh love that Julie is a Returned but doesn't know it.

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 18/06/2013 12:04

susie I don't think she did survive. She's died and come back.

Co-incidentally (?) her killer, Serge, was also murdered and came back.

I don't think anyone is going to stay dead in this town.

Spero · 18/06/2013 13:01

ooo that is a brilliant point - she died but came back. Much more likely than not bleeding to death after being left for at least four -five hours with those types of wounds.

LadyEnglefield · 18/06/2013 13:03

Pretty sure that Julie is a 'returnee'.

On the Channel 4 website piece about Laure it says;

"Laure has been a police officer since the time of The Cannibal murders. Despite her position, she was unable to protect her ex-girlfriend, Julie, from the killer."

Spero · 18/06/2013 13:05

But why if Julie was killed, then hasn't she noticed her ex girlfriend very visibly travelling about, even going to the police station to report Victor missing? They both live in the same quite small town don't they?

Or does that mean Julie was attacked but survived? and they split up?

Confused.

coffeeinbed · 18/06/2013 13:11

Also, Julie's stab marks, she would have returned whole and unmarked, as the others.

Spero · 18/06/2013 13:16

Ah, so Julie was attacked but survived, and the stress this caused her relationship with the police officer who couldn't protect her has caused them to split up.

But why has Victor latched on to her?

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 18/06/2013 14:05

good point about the others returning whole and unmarked...

Trop de questions...

Spero · 18/06/2013 14:12

If you watch the trailer, there is an interesting bit involving Camille which sheds a different light on the 'whole and unmarked' scenario...

ProfYaffle · 18/06/2013 14:46

Re the Goats, I assume all the clips in the opening titles are clues as to what is to come. The goats, the electricity crackling, the reflections in the puddle etc.

It all feels very menacing, I think people are going to regret letting the returned into their homes

rufussmum · 18/06/2013 15:24

Not wanting to spoil anyone's fun but I always find plots like this hard to follow (gormless). So I looked up The Returned on Wiki and there is a great cast list that tells you who's who (and an episode by episode account of the plot) but ignore this bit.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/06/2013 15:43

Spero - I was wondering about the credits, but more to do with Lena - it is her checking out a scar on her back, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure that this week she asked Jerome if he was going to hit her 'again'. I was wondering if it was something to do with that - like the wounds of the past re-opening, IYKWIM?
