It's a bit soon for me to have an opinion yet, but it looks interesting enough that I'm recording it to watch later with DH...

OP posts:

sweetestthing great sleuthing over the butterfly!

And again...

The goats! Les chevres! Are they going to come back to life?

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 17/06/2013 14:17

PS. I work in a library. We just call it the library. Not 'the multimedia library'. Or 'the learning centre'. Or 'the education and information zone'

It's... just.... a... library

SweetestThing · 17/06/2013 14:17

Just call me Madame Poirot :)

SweetestThing · 17/06/2013 14:19

SweetieMonitor, that is just typical French pretentious title-giving Grin. They study philosophy at school and it makes them all deep and meaningful...

LtEveDallas · 17/06/2013 14:19

The evil returnee (Serge?) asked where "our mother" was didn't he? That's why I thought they were brothers... but I may have mis-read.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/06/2013 15:45

i think they are brothers and as he killed him (hence the grave of him and their mum) thats what so shocked when told lucy was hurt as he knows the killer was dead

coffee - i said the same thing about victor - why did doc call him that?

am loving this thread almost as much as the series on tv :)

just hope it wont be like broadchurch and be a silly ending and watch for hours on end :(

Mooster1709 · 17/06/2013 15:48

Thank you tee!

I too thought the barman was the father, rather than brother. Can't remember why now, something in the way the serial killer phrased a question to him?

coffeeinbed · 17/06/2013 15:56

Blondes, yes.
Esp now we know that's the name of the butterfly, thanks to tee's
tireless rewinding!
An they both go through glass.

ScrambledSmegs · 17/06/2013 16:05

The killer asked the barman 'Ou est Mamam?' (or something v similar). Not 'ou est ma mere?' So it implies a familial relationship, very likely to be a sibling relationship as Toni isn't that much older than killer dude.

Just call me Sherlock Wink

ScrambledSmegs · 17/06/2013 16:08

Maman. Come on, phone, get with the franglais.

StringBeanJean · 17/06/2013 16:33

Guineapiglet - how spooky that we were thinking the same thing at the same time ShockShockGrinGrinGrinGrin

PacificDogwood · 17/06/2013 16:37

Oh, no, I could not cope with a silly ending a la Lost - I am so glad I never got sucked in to that one Grin.

I think Toni and Serge are brothers. I am under the impression that Serge and their mother died together, but I have no evidence to back that up.
Why was the mother's house all locked up (and all the windows had bars?? What's that all about?) and then there is a great big not-quite-dead wolf/dog hung up? Did it not smell bad? Why did Tony not give it a second glance? And all the other stuffed animals...

There is a bit in the credits at the start where a little girls swings around a pole in a ?school yard, a ball bounces in to view and there is a large puddle in the foreground. There is the reflection of, I think, 2 children upsidedown in the puddle - but no children.
That fits in quite nicely with mirrors/photos/windown etc, n'est-ce pas?

I am loving the butterfly name explanation btw

PacificDogwood · 17/06/2013 16:39

And re 'multi-media library' vs straightforward simple library that offers multimedia stuff: the French 'mediateque' is such a pared down word that clearly needed to be explained to the English speaker Grin

clueless2013 · 17/06/2013 17:46

Merci ev-er-ee-bod-ee. Am tres confusedicated so will flip and start at the beginning as there didn't seem to be much of a 'previously' for those joining after week one.

LizTerrine · 17/06/2013 17:56

I think the dead animals in the house are supposed to be Serge's 'experiments' (bit of a serial killer cliche?). The rabbits on the table looked part eaten, like the victims.

SweetestThing · 17/06/2013 17:57

Just been watching episode 2 again and when Lena asks her dad if he is going to hit her, in the French she says 'encore' - is he going to hit her again? History of this, maybe?

Stila · 17/06/2013 18:09

Blondes - I also thought that Adele's husband to be was one of the police that turned up at the church .

Last week I was pretty sure Simon had returned before - Adele saying its happening again and him visiting the grave but this week I'm not so sure .

Julie , yes the scars looked the same as the hap-hazard way Serge stabbed Lucy .
I assumed Serge and Toni were brothers . I also think the wolf /dog will turn up again .

So by Mrs Costa's reaction to Simon and his to her they know they are the same ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/06/2013 18:28

stila-sure he was one of the cops - maybe thats how he got with her?

NoHank · 17/06/2013 19:05

I am so glad I stuck with this after realising it was subtitled. I almost turned over, uncultured oaf that I am.

I have no theories, just lots of questions and love reading everyone else's ideas.

My first thought when I saw Julies scars were that she was a survivor of the underpass attacker.

I have no idea what Victor might be to her

Has Victor re-returned (after sending the coach off the road) or has he been around for the last 6 years since the accident happened?

After hearing that the underpass attacker tried to bite his victims' liver, I think the half eaten raw rabbit on the table was Serge's wake up feast.

Did anyone else chuckle when Toni got whacked on the head with the spade? No? Just me then.

Simon looked really upset about the pregnancy. In fact he was crying. A strange reaction on finding out the woman you are marrying is having your baby. So maybe he did kill himself? He was seen standing at his grave last week wasn't he so he seemed to know he was dead already, not like Camille who was trying to explain her absence when she arrived home.

Have they all come back with a bit of an aggression problem? Simon and the man at the restaurant and Camille and Lena's bedroom.

The water bubbling up at the church made me think of Stephen Kings It. I definitetly think the dam will feature somehow.

And when Pierre said to Camille that it had happened before or it wasn't the first time I got the feeling he wasn't talking in a religious sense as in Jesus. I think he may know more than he is letting on.

The twins hair is gorgeous

Sorry for the essay Grin I didn't realise how much I had been thinking about this

RobotElephant · 17/06/2013 19:08

Did I imagine Victor standing in the road in front of the coach, causing it to swerve?

He's evil that one. WHy doesn't he talk? Confused

StringBeanJean · 17/06/2013 19:12

Like your theory about agression Nohank, hadn't picked up on that, but now you mention it... I think you've got something there.

Making my friends watch it tonight Grin

RobotElephant · 17/06/2013 19:13

managed to x-post there.

StringBeanJean · 17/06/2013 19:17

Maybe Victor is the dam, personified, robot? Which is why he doesn't talk.

Grin
RobotElephant · 17/06/2013 19:19

haha, nice one.

Maybe he's responsible for people coming back from the dead, somehow.

OfficialSweetieMonitor · 17/06/2013 19:39

Camille also angry that her sister escaped death.

They're all angry. And hungry.
