It's a bit soon for me to have an opinion yet, but it looks interesting enough that I'm recording it to watch later with DH...

OP posts:
gazzalw · 12/06/2013 13:33

I just assumed it's the lighting.....

flatmum · 12/06/2013 13:33

I thought that about the housing - is it al the people in the (very nice!) modern houses have lost someone - because they are all living on site of a village that was wiped out by the dam? Being punished?

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/06/2013 13:33

I don't know, gazzalw. Confess I've had little exposure to French TV until now. Wondering if there is a French equivalent to David Icke?

Oooh, though - wasn't a lot of the Da Vinci Code set in France? Proof positive that a lot of inexplicable stuff goes on there!

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/06/2013 13:35

Cuppa, ok we will revert to my totally non-ridiculous Homeopathic Dam theory then Grin

gazzalw · 12/06/2013 13:41

Maybe there were lots of dead bodies raising the water level in the dam but now they've all resurrected and 'walked off' back to their lives, the water level has gone down.....

Well, I'm not sure I'm an expert on French TV or films but they don't, from what I've seen, tend to go for fantastical in the same way that the Americans do.....

Does anyone know if this is going to be just a one series show or are we going to lose the plot watching series after series.... ???

nennypops · 12/06/2013 13:50

My theory: the returned are all people who died in the dam. The little boy lived in the village that the dam drowned, and he died there. Maybe the returned have some sort of compulsion to lure people to die there, hence Victor causing the coach to crash and Mr Costa throwing himself in.

gazzalw · 12/06/2013 13:59

Ha maybe it's a 'sacrifice' type of thing. Someone gets to come back to life if they give the dam more dead bodies/souls....

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 12/06/2013 14:06

yes much prefer Homeopathic Dam BoreOfWhabylon

MadameDefarge · 12/06/2013 14:30

I think Victor might have been murdered and his body hidden in the dam as it was built...recalls sacrifices of humans built into buildings for good luck, lots of rumours about london bridge etc. I think mr costa knew about it in some way

Clearly read Hawksmoor too many times...

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 12/06/2013 14:33

aaaah. re david icke. this is off-topic but made me howl at the time. alice walker, writer of the colour purple and all-round cool woman (unless you believe what her daughter says)... interviewed on Desert Island Discs on Radio 4 by Kirsty Young.

life story fine, impressive even, music for the desert island victrola chosen and played etc etc. last task is to choose the one book that will accompany you throughout possibly years of isolation.

alice walker chooses 'get up off your knees, people' by DAVID ICKE.

kirsty young couldn't even speak. awkward moment of radio silence while she realises walker is, in fact, a crackpot...

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 12/06/2013 14:34

flatmum have we seen any non-modern buildings at all? i can't think that we have, at least not ones right at the town.

flatmum · 12/06/2013 14:42

No we haven't officially although you and I may have seen one in ep 2 involving a key character which has thrown me a bit? Tho possibly still in the same vicinity as the dam.

flatmum · 12/06/2013 14:43

Whole town seems ultra modern tho, esp for a town in the French Alps, so has surely been newly built during construction of the dam.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 12/06/2013 14:45

flatmum... let's all stay on the same page here...

LizTerrine · 12/06/2013 14:45

Yes Aitch, that book selection was bizarre. A total -did she really just say that?!- moment. Think the daughter might have a point...

Flatmum, careful with the spoilers now!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 12/06/2013 14:47

i know, it made me IMMEDIATELY go and google her daughter. Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/06/2013 14:48

Oh MadameDefarge pleeease tell me about the human sacrifices built into London Bridge

flatmum · 12/06/2013 14:49

Sorry! Sorry! Forgot my place for a moment.

MadameDefarge · 12/06/2013 14:59

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/06/2013 15:12

Ooh that's a good suggestion zukie, I remember watching the film ' the others' with Nicole Kidman in, in that big house with her two children that couldn't see the sun but it turned out she was the dead one, I thought that was a great twistSmile
